i used to beat my mate who drove a civic with my toyota camry

as for macs.. try playing a popular computer game on it. such as call of duty 4 or rainbow 6 vegas 2.. good luck

COD4 has just been released for mac last week or there abouts

that being said, ive got a WinXP partition on my Macbook Pro just to play games....

im not quite a mac fan boy, but i prefer macs over pcs

but i would have both

i find macs a hell of a lot easier to use

i keep having to fix up my grandmothers pc cause something keeps going wrong

my macs only problem is that the battery shat itself

I have a friend (who I work with) who drags his N/A Civic in some of the various comps up here and around the place.

The last time I'm aware he ran was an 11.6, though I believe he's close to high 10's by now.

He took me for a drive in it and the cam switchover is rather noticeable. Of course, in his car it's upwards of 7-8000rpm by that stage.

Very impressive for what it was, though far beyond your "standard" civic.

Specs to get that out of an N/A civic??? (not putting down, just wanna know)

it's probably running a h22a or k20a, in an empty EG shell. they weigh about 800 or less kilos in some cases.

there are some really fast civics out there, well, once they bust the 5000rpm mark. apparently re-builds are frequent though.

Wow. I didnt expect this kind of rubbish from this forum.

Its amazing how cars get bashed because of what a minority of people do/say.

Ask most people what they think of R32s (or just Skyline in general bar GTR's) , and they think 16 year old wannabe drifter that thinks his cars fast cos its turbo.

I tend to agree, that yes, they do get a bad name because the young idiots think because its revving its tits off and making alot of noise that its the fastest thing in the world.

You really need to speak to the people (like myself) that actually used the car properly. In my case, and Integra Type R (DC2).

I frequented the race track, as thats where it belongs. And for all those saying the powerband is useless.. just see how long it stays above 6000rpm on a track.

Seeing as i now own an R33 im not biased, as i have always wanted a Skyline. And the two cars are un-compareable. Completely different classes.

Stock for stock, my ITR used to keep neck and neck with my friends R33 untill the top of 2nd. Then the legs were stretched on the Skyline.. but E-drags are gay. So meh lol.

Ok, so i lost my train of thought hahaha and not sure where im going.

Im just disappointed that this forum is so shallow and has to resort to this. I expect this from the Toyspeed forum in NZ!

Go up against any properly set up Civic or Integra (be it Type R or not) and i guarantee you will have a hard time shaking them, or even keeping up, on the track where it really matters :P

and most of them vtec lovers tend to turbo it in the end anyway...

haha

LOL too true, and when done correctly, holy shit do they fly.

A good mate ( its always a mate isnt it??) has a B18c Turbo EG Civic making 317fwkw, it does 11's, and is regularly tracked. Its a force for sure.

Macs are shite. Sure, if you wanna look fancy and do nothing more than word process, go ahead, pay double what a PC costs.

However, if you plan to do any serious computing [graphics, modelling, programming etc] , PC ftw.

EF with a K20A I believe. It's less than 800.

Actually...

PC's are fine until some idiot comes along and installs itunes on it. I swear Apple embeds a virus in it to bring it down from the inside.

On the flipside, I run an OSX Virtual Machine on my XP PC so I can develop iphone apps and test cross browser compatibility on safari and mac versions of firefox and IE (both with horrendous javascript engines). OSX is good in short doses.

Besides... OSX runs on BSD Unix environment these days and on a Intel based PC architecture. The only thing that's unique about it is the overpriced monoply of an operating system.

Its like if you transplanted an NSX engine into a GTR and suddenly claimed VTEC was the shit cos your car didn't handle like a cheap Fezza copy with cut springs any more.

Oh yeah, I brought it back on topic. You're impressed.... admit it.

Hiya Darren.

Psychological Profile on your friend (being a V-Tec owner myself)

Immaturity > Excitement > Embellishment > Exaggeration > Lie! :P

Sure the 24V 3.2l NSX creates a wonderful howl when the V-Tec kicks in with a surge. And what a wonderful NA car Honda has made in the past. But your mate doesn't have an NSX does he? Neither do I.

Sure I get a push at 4700 in my little 2157cc Prelude VTiR and I like it's surge & tonal change at that point. But I bought that car because it can corner. Not because of its power delivery (which is more similar to the Alfa Romeo 164Q I had a while back).

Tez

Its so true, about the whole mac users and minority of honda owners. Of course im not dissing all of them, im just sharing experiences and wondering if anyone had similar experiences. Just find it amusing. But yea i agree some of the hondas out there are quick, no doubt about that especially on tight corners, but on straights probably they are not built for that. But yea each cars are built for a purpose.

What a coincidence, I used to have a friend who tells me everyday how I should change to mac, telling how superior it is over the normal PC. When it comes to work in the office, he gives excuse that he cant do it because applications like powerpoint might not be compatible with his Mac...

P/S : Those pics are golden !!

I bought a DC2 Integra Type R not long after they were first released and found it one of the most ill-conceived cars I've ever owned. I may have been sucked in by the hype that Wheels and Motor created, because on the test drive at the dealership it seemed a blast.

In reality it was too firm riding, very noisy and gutless unless it was doing more than 6000rpm.

I took it down to Goulburn and discovered one of the draw-backs of the V-tec system. If you came up behind a slow moving vehicle doing say, 80kmh, and pulled out to overtake in 3rd gear the car would barely accelerate because it was off V-tec. Next time I repeated the manouvre in 2nd gear and took it out to about 8500rpm and changed up and the thing died in the arse because it had dropped below the 6000rpm V-tec point.

On the track it was a pretty good car but if you drove around the city doing 7000rpm all the time, you would just look like an idiot.

The NSX doesn't suffer from this syndrome because the 3 litre V6 engine is so much more flexible.

It was designed to be firm riding and noisy. It doesnt come with sound deadening from the factory. And has track adequate suspention. Lets not forget it only weighs 1080kg in stock form. Its aimed at particular markets, as is every model of car.

I found that my R33 was nearly as firm riding with stock suspention too.

And you'l find that if you drive it properly, then it doesnt drop out of VTEC. Again, it is designed not to if you know how to drive it. I personally never had a problem overtaking in mine. You just need to learn how it works.

Nearly every car you need to accelerate up behind the car infront before you pull out. Including VTEC! Not every car has immediate power to just pull out and go. Its common sence.

I dont know why you'd want to drive around at 7000rpm in the city anyway.. when the speed limits 50k and you can go 20k over in 1st gear? I think your pulling excuses to knock one of the best FWD cars ever produced. You just cant compare this type of car with Skylines.

Im not getting shitty at you, as each to their own, as my dream car is a GTR and always has been. But i in no way think that because a Honda isnt a Skyline that it is shit.

Its very clear that many Skyline drivers still have tiny penises.

I for one am a big Honda fan, it seems a lot of you seem to assume because someone is enthusiastic about their car means they think its better than everything or more than it is - you have to take it as all relative. Hondas are awesome fun to drive, I have actually just bought a Japanese import Honda Prelude (my 2nd 2.2VTEC one, my 5th Honda) and for day to day use it actually puts more of a grin on my face than my 280kw @ wheel RWD Skyline.

These people raving on about these things having no torque, it would kill my Skyline from low revs and makes my Skyline feel more like a "need to rev" type car - albeit the Skyline would kick 7 shades of shit out of the Prelude once it gets a bit of boost on but again, I own the two cars for different reasons. The Prelude is something I can thrash around without worrying about it breaking (whoever said fast NA Hondas need regular rebuilds have been around too many bad tuners/engine builders), someone bumping into it, or going too fast to quickly.

People may think that VTEC Hondas don't have any acceleration, but to be blatently honest after running around for a couple of years with a turbo Skyline with reasonable power I can still get a kick out of when the Honda winds up and goes when I need it to - there are no big risks or planning sessions required to work out how to overtake people, and more grins than frustration when thrashing it. Sure it doesn't blow me away with mighty acceleration, but its got enough that its not a waste of time revving it out and because its not a Skyline/Mitsi/whatever I can rev it past redline day in day out and can stay confident the rods will stay where they should be. Its exactly the same as when I go in a majority of other turbo Skylines out there, they have enough of a push in the back to tell you that its going but it doesn't blow me away - its still fun though.

I don't take the piss out of people who have got their first GTSt with cat back exhaust and are rapt with it because my own car will shit on it from a great height, I don't see why people should do the same to someone who has got themselves a car which gives them the same jollies but they have the added bonus of not getting raped at the service station, not worries of ceramic exhaust wheels smashing, ring lands breaking, coils breaking down, etc etc.

Its very clear that many Skyline drivers still have tiny penises.

I thought that was a V8 thing... they tend to call anyone who deoesn't have a turck sized V8 under the hood by that title.

    • OK, so again it has been a bit of a break but it was around researching what had been done since I didn't have access to Neil's records and not everything is obvious without pulling stuff apart. Happily the guy who assembled the engine had kept reasonable records, so we now know the final spec is: Bottom end: Standard block and crank Ross 86.5mm forgies, 9:1 compression Spool forged rods Standard main bolts Oil pump Spool billet gears in standard housing Aeroflow extended and baffled sump Head Freshly rebuilt standard head with new 80lb valve springs Mild porting/port match Head oil feed restrictor VCT disabled Tighe 805C reground cams (255 duration, 8.93 lift)  Adjustable cam gears on inlet/exhaust Standard head bolts, gasket not confirmed but assumed MLS External 555cc Nismo injectors Z32 AFM Bosch 023 Intank fuel pump Garret 2871 (factory housings and manifold) Hypertune FFP plenum with standard throttle   Time to book in a trip to Unigroup
    • I forgot about my shiny new plates!
    • Well, apparently they do fit, however this wont be a problem if not because the car will be stationary while i do the suspension work. I was just going to use the 16's to roll the old girl around if I needed to. I just need to get the E90 back on the road first. Yes! I'm a believer! 🙌 So, I contacted them because the site kinda sucks and I was really confused about what I'd need. They put together a package for me and because I was spraying all the seat surfaces and not doing spot fixes I decided not to send them a headrest to colour match, I just used their colour on file (and it was spot on).  I got some heavy duty cleaner, 1L of colour, a small bottle of dye hardener and a small bottle of the dye top coat. I also got a spray gun as I needed a larger nozzle than the gun I had and it was only $40 extra. From memory the total was ~$450 ish. Its not cheap but the result is awesome. They did add repair bits and pieces to the quote originally and the cost came down significantly when I said I didn't need any repair products. I did it over a weekend. The only issues I had were my own; I forgot to mix the hardener into the dye two coats but I had enough dye for 2 more coats with the hardener. I also just used up all the dye because why not and i rushed the last coat which gave me some runs. Thankfully the runs are under the headrests. The gun pattern wasn't great, very round and would have been better if it was a line. It made it a little tricky to get consistent coverage and I think having done the extra coats probably helped conceal any coverage issues. I contacted them again a few months later so I could get our X5 done (who the f**k thought white leather was a good idea for a family car?!) and they said they had some training to do in Sydney and I could get a reduced rate on the leather fix in the X5 if I let them demo their product on our car. So I agreed. When I took Bec in the E39 to pick it up, I showed them the job I'd done in my car and they were all (students included) really impressed. Note that they said the runs I created could be fixed easily at the time with a brush or an air compressor gun. So, now with the two cars done I can absolutely recommend Colourlock.  I'll take pics of both interiors and create a new thread.
    • Power is fed to the ECU when the ignition switch is switched to IGN, at terminal 58. That same wire also connects to the ECCS relay to provide both the coil power and the contact side. When the ECU sees power at 58 it switches 16 to earth, which pulls the ECCS relay on, which feeds main power into the ECU and also to a bunch of other things. None of this is directly involved in the fuel pump - it just has to happen first. The ECU will pull terminal 18 to earth when it wants the fuel pump to run. This allows the fuel pump relay to pull in, which switches power on into the rest of the fuel pump control equipment. The fuel pump control regulator is controlled from terminal 104 on the ECU and is switched high or low depending on whether the ECU thinks the pump needs to run high or low. (I don't know which way around that is, and it really doesn't matter right now). The fuel pump control reg is really just a resistor that controls how the power through the pump goes to earth. Either straight to earth, or via the resistor. This part doesn't matter much to us today. The power to the fuel pump relay comes from one of the switched wires from the IGN switch and fusebox that is not shown off to the left of this page. That power runs the fuel pump relay coil and a number of other engine peripherals. Those peripherals don't really matter. All that matters is that there should be power available at the relay when the key is in the right position. At least - I think it's switched. If it's not switched, then power will be there all the time. Either way, if you don't have power there when you need it (ie, key on) then it won't work. The input-output switching side of the relay gains its power from a line similar (but not the same as) the one that feeds the ECU. SO I presume that is switched. Again, if there is not power there when you need it, then you have to look upstream. And... the upshot of all that? There is no "ground" at the fuel pump relay. Where you say: and say that pin 1 Black/Pink is ground, that is not true. The ECU trigger is AF73, is black/pink, and is the "ground". When the ECU says it is. The Blue/White wire is the "constant" 12V to power the relay's coil. And when I say "constant", I mean it may well only be on when the key is on. As I said above. So, when the ECU says not to be running the pump (which is any time after about 3s of switching on, with no crank signal or engine speed yet), then you should see 12V at both 1 and 2. Because the 12V will be all the way up to the ECU terminal 18, waiting to be switched to ground. When the ECU switches the fuel pump on, then AF73 should go to ~0V, having been switched to ground and the voltage drop now occurring over the relay coil. 3 & 5 are easy. 5 is the other "constant" 12V, that may or may not be constant but will very much want to be there when the key is on. Same as above. 3 goes to the pump. There should never be 12V visible at 3 unless the relay is pulled in. As to where the immobiliser might have been spliced into all this.... It will either have to be on wire AF70 or AF71, whichever is most accessible near the alarm. Given that all those wires run from the engine bay fusebox or the ECU, via the driver's area to the rear of the car, it could really be either. AF70 will be the same colour from the appropriate fuse all the way to the pump. If it has been cut and is dangling, you should be able to see that  in that area somewhere. Same with AF71.   You really should be able to force the pump to run. Just jump 12V onto AF72 and it should go. That will prove that the pump itself is willing to go along with you when you sort out the upstream. You really should be able to force the fuel pump relay on. Just short AF73 to earth when the key is on. If the pump runs, then the relay is fine, and all the power up to both inputs on the relay is fine. If it doesn't run (and given that you checked the relay itself actually works) then one or both of AF70 and AF71 are not bringing power to the game.
    • @PranK can you elaborate further on the Colorlock Dye? The website has a lot of options. I'm sure you've done all the research. I have old genuine leather seats that I have bought various refurbing creams and such, but never a dye. Any info on how long it lasts? Does it wash out? Is it a hassle? What product do I actually need? Am I just buying this kit and following the steps the page advises or something else? https://www.colourlockaustralia.com.au/colourlock-leather-repair-kit-dye.html
