Gotta let us know what you want out of a turbo dude, do u want a monster or a nice little increase.

The way so go for a bolt on seems to be a GT-RS or a garret gt2871r-10 these little fellas come highly reccomended form peeps in the know.

But thats a pretty tiny budget uve got there <$1k and turbo upgrade is kinda a recipe for disaster, keep saving, so you can afford all the required ancillaries

This will prob get close because this question gets asked like 10 times a week, so look at the dyno thread and see what works, then price it up on nengun or greenline, or call a workshop that u want to use and get a quote. but ill tell u now, $1k is peanuts, all u can prob afford with that is a highflowed standard turbo with steel wheels.

Under a grand doesnt leave you much of an option other then getting yours highflowed or buying a KKR (unless you find something second hand). Most garret bolt on options will set you back anywhere from $1500-$2000 depending on who you buy from and what size you go, 2871R, 3037, 3071R etc.

What else is done to the car? Basics covered? Cooler, exhuast, ECU, pump etc...

Not really looking to build a monsta at this stage.

Just looking around and getting ideas. Seen a few on ebay and that. Like $500 to $900

a turbo. Would they be any good? I'm still saving and that. Not looking to buy one anytime soon.

You will need more than 1k for any decent turbo.

Otherwise you will be paying for another one in the short term.

You will need to factor in new lines, dump and maybe intake to accommodate.

I wouldnt even consider a turbo upgrade unless you have the basic mods done first.

In turbos you really do get what you pay for...and that is a cheap turbo

most people wouldnt touch them with a 10ft pole, but others say they have been going strong once a good local turbo shop has had a little fiddle with them

so up to u...its a risk

remember if you spend $500 on this turbo and it falls to peices, then you buy another $500 turbo, uve spent $1k and still dont have a great turbo, and thats the kind of money u'll pay for a quality turbo

buying the turbo is one thing, then you have oil/water lines, exhaust, ecu mods, injectors, fuel pump all needed to support the upgrade.

all adds up so quick $ wise.

you didn't mention if you had other mods to support a turbo upgrade?

    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
    • Do you have some data like fuel pressure? It's really hard to say if you're still fighting a fuel system issue at this point. Could be something weird like the FPCM dipping out.
    • Yeah in that case, pulling the dent out. Event a very slight dent can create a lot of work filler-wise and there is a strong chance the panel won't be the factory shape when you are done (as the dent will result in a new high point created somewhere, then everything is brought up to that new high point... but the panel shouldn't be that high if that makes sense).  So you've filled and primed the panel and it is flat, why would you go back and remove the primer and add more filler?
    • Something else I have been faffing with while the car was off the road is making the AC work. Assuming the car isn't at a thermal limit the idea of having AC while waiting in line to go on track sounds delightful. I have actually been lugging around the weight of the entire system since 2018 when the RB25NEO went in without it working at all.  The main reason was in the first few events before I got around to re-gassing it the rubber hose that runs under the manifold had the factory heat wrap/sleeve fail resulting in this: ~2 years ago I purchased a complete used R32 AC line set but when I finally went to install it the line i needed was different where the expansion section is I found a local place that was able to replace the rubber section and re-crimp. They also added some modern heat sleeve to the hose Tight fit but fingers crossed this is the last physical piece of the puzzle needed
    • the top black section is bonded to the silver section with some form of rubber. I assume to isolated NVH from the box
