Ok, so you have a Stagea wagon.. (mmmm stagggeeaaa 'drools') you rip the front shaft off and take a lap around the block expecting it to atleast give a little screech into 2nd but to no avail. You instantly start planning your mods before you've even lifted off the pshhh pedal. You read the forums hearing people talk of 200kw atw and 250kwatw and more and start to wonder, how much do I need to be happy with my car. All I want to do is light the tyres when I feel the need and get the so longed for turbo surge as it comes onto boost. Not the feather tickling your stag receives at present. So all in all, how much is enough and how do you compare without driving cars at certain power levels. So the all elusive hunt for the mystic Kw's begins searching the far reaches of the petrol sniffing regions to maybe one day cook lunch on your new hankooks.

i have a bit of experience with different power levels in stageas, i've had a setup with stock power, 350rwhp, and 560rwhp and 600rwhp.

The more power the more compromises unfortunately, my new setup is aiming for a max of 400rwhp, this will mean alot of factory parts can still be used, the clutch is nice to drive around with and reliability is still pretty good. I run a rb26 setup though so rb25s are abit different. 350rwhp was abit slow, but i did have that engine in a 1300kg car before so i noticed the weight difference more than anything. 560hp is great, except the laggy turbo, noisy heavy clutch, big cams, and stock gearboxes dont last one drag run lol (or the rear axles), so the dogbox upgrade was another pain in the arse for any daily driver duties, it definately was fun if some pesky commodores wanted a run off the lights though :P

In rwd im sure around 350rwhp wouldnt have any trouble smokin the tyres at ease if thats all u want :D

Well all in all it will be a daily driver with a Vapour injection lpg kit but needs to be fun to drive not just a wagon that makes a cool noise. Can't beat that stag shape though

I'm hoping I can overcome alot of the fueling issues using the lpg computer and fuel mapping inbuilt. Fuel cut may be an issue though as it cuts the injectors.

Well, I've currently got 156kW at all 4 wheels, and when I took my cousin for a drive last weekend he mentioned how much better it was accelerating compared to when I first got it. He's got an R33 GTSt (he bought it well before I bought my car), and has previously had a few well-worked Commodores and had the opportunity to drive quite a few quick cars in his time (Porsche 928, genuine Alpina E30 BMW 3-series, etc.).

You can never have too much power. It's pretty much how much your wallet, credit card, bank loan, drug money you have to do your upgrades but you got to also think "is it drivable?" There's no point of have 800kw when you can't drive it down the street (unless its a track car)

For me i'm going to be happy with 200 - 230 at all wheels. It's still streetable but with the power at the ready if I need it

RB26 R34 N1, HKS_GT_SS, Tomie head gasket 1.2mm, tomei dumps, hi-flo cat, D-jetro, twin plate super coppermix, 15psi boost. Some odds & sods & $$$$$$$$$$$. 224awkw. = sticky Maxxis's, dunno if there's any smoke......to busy going/looking forward. :P

I run 297awkw, using R33 N1 turbos.... It's ok, but like the rest have said, not exactly ideal: wee bit laggy/noisy etc... I had been using mine as a daily for the last 24 months with this setup, and was living quite happily with it until we discovered a crack in the block (normal place: water jacket under the turbo manifolds - cause for concern, but not terminal...yet), so I am about to undertake a fresh build with stronger parts, aiming at 400-420awkw, but this will most definitely make it a weekend-only proposition.

Having recently bought a bog stocko Legnum as a daily, and sampled how smooth, quiet and responsive it is, I don't know if I'd be happy with my Stagea as a daily again, even with the current setup...

Well to be honest getting it to walk around in second is all I'm aiming for at the moment. Now all I have to do is tell the boss I bought a stag and get some afterwork hoist time in. :laugh:

Why would he need 15k... i didn't even spend that on mine, and i don't think he wants that much power... you should be able to get away with it pretty cheap if you do your research and work yourself...

A lot of RB25s make that power fairly easily. I would have thought your set up would be capable of a lot more ( more boost, better tune?) or is that a deliberately conservative figure?

You need around 380RWKW to get a 20 to get scrappy in second. I know as I have one. Now getting a 1.8tonne wagon to dothat take money, I know Ive done it. I did teh research. I built a motor that will take the punishment.

You will need:

Turbos, N1, GrpA or better

Big afms

Big cooler

Oil cooler

Big radiator

N1 oil and water pumps

Forged pistons

Forged rods

Cams

Cam gears

Injectors (i did the rail too)

Big pumps

Computer

Then you have the labour.

Oh, and the big clutch.

I did the exhaust manifolds whicle I was at it, and the head, because I wanted it done right.

There you go, add that up.

my R33 has 280rwkw and we stopped there out of sympathy to the motor (standard) and out of common sense since there is progressively less grip and it is pretty useless for driving on the street.

Sorry i thought we were talking RB25... Didn't know stag's came in RB20....

for that sorta money i would have thought putting a 26 in would be a better option, for the long run anyway....

    • Which solenoid? Why was it changed? Again, why was this done? ...well, these wear..but ultimately, why was it changed? Did you reset the idle voltage level after fitment? I'm just a tad confused ~ the flash code doesn't allude to these items being faulty, so in my mind the only reason to change these things, would be some drive-ability issue....and if that's the case, what was the problem? Those questions aside, check if the dropping resistor is OK ...should be 11~14 ohms (TCU doesn't throw a flash code for this) ~ also, these TCU designs have full time power (to keep fault code RAM alive), and I think that'll throw a logic code (as opposed to the 10 hardware codes), if that power is missing (or the ram has gone bad in the TCU, which you can check..but that's another story here perhaps).
    • Question for people who "know stuff" I am looking at doing the new intake like the one in the picture (the pictured is designed for the OEM TB and intake plenum), this design has the filter behind the front bar, but, the filter sits where the OEM duct heads into the front bar, and the standard aperture when the OEM ducting is removed allows the filter to pulled back out of the front bar into the engine bay for servicing, a simple blanking plate is used to seal the aperture behind the filter This will require a 45° silicone hose from the TB, like the alloy pipe that is currently there, to another 45° silicone hose to get a straight run to the aperture in the front bar Question: how will it effect the tune if I move the MAF about 100-150mm forward, the red is around where my MAF is currently, and the green would be where it would end up Like this This is the hole the filter goes through  Ends up like this LOL..Cheers    
    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
    • Pull codes via the self-diagnosis procedure. As far as I can tell this is just a sign of transmission issues but not a code unto itself.
    • Hi All, putting the engine back together and everything is perfect except have this plug left over.. any ideas what it is for and where it goes? Is on cold side under the intake plenum *note not a stock plug, as everything has been modified Cheers
