clutch type diffs need an LSD oil. The standard R33 diff does not need an LSD oil because the viscous centre is a sealed unit.

LSD oil has friction modifiers so the wet clutch works properly, if you fill with a normal oil your diff will shudder.

Check to see if that Castrol one is suitable for limited slip differentials.

Hard to get, not even sure what grade or weight, I'd need the brand grade and weight first. ie Motul Gear Oil 90 PA SAE90 or Motul Gear Competition 75W140????

I'm thinking that the Gear Competition would be the go, but would like to be sure, tearing the teeth off a diff is NOT on my list of things to do..........lol

Can anyone tell me the capacity of a Nismo diff.

A std diff is 1.8 litres, i just did my Nismo and it only took 1.35 litres and thats after I double checked!!

It flowed out the fill hole twice so it has to be full, but I'd like to have my figures confirmed - peace of mind and all that.

Since when is a std diff 1.8? 1.3 is on the money unless you have an extended backing plate (trust)

80-250 doesn't sound right, didn't think you could get the viscosities that far apart in an oil??? Maybe 80w150????

have a look at that... ( i double checked too.. i did read it correctly!) lol

Sorry, i went off what a certain well respected shop told me when they looked it up - when i was buying the oil.... pretty sure they said 1.8 - but it could be my memory, maybe they said 1.3 - I can't be 100% sure. Then I didn't look it up anywhere to check either.

BTW I just did a 1500km weekend and the Motul Gear Competition 75W140 worked fine, no problems.

And EJD, apologies, 80w250 it is>>>sounds like a good broad viscocity base, would handle a lot of situations.

    • Each to their own I guess  Me, I put just as much time into cleaning inside of the cars as I do on the outside As for getting wet, it is really no different than steam cleaning the carpets at home, apart from the cars carpet dries alot faster than the house, again, I only do it in the hotter months and leave the car opened up for a few hours As I only do it yearly, it is just before I do the diff and gearbox service, so I clean the carpets, then it's up on stands, wheels off, service, clean the undercarriage,  grease the bushings and do a nut and bolt check on everything  Disclaimer: I typically had all the time in the world to kill when I was working 馃ぃ, so spending a full day or 2 cleaning, serving and "looking at stuff" was,  easily achievable, and a fun mental therapy day As for time to kill, I retired last Wednesday, so apart from my physical training, my days are filled with lots of random jobs around the house and garden...."Idle hands are the Devils something something" I am also buying a new house sooner rather than later, I'm actually looking at a potential property tomorrow, I'm looking forward to getting a car hoist as I'm starting to get to old to crawl around under a car, I can only imagine all the undercarriage cleaning and looking at stuff when that gets set up
