Yep it should pass without a problem mate....its a Nissan OEM part so not defectable....one would assume...

Nissan OEM parts are not illegal to have :P

unless you know for sure, i think you should stop misinforming people. the inspectors are not stupid. they know how to read serial numbers on turbines and are able to tell which motor they are originally from.

they pick up on t28's on redtop sr's, but you don't think they'd spot a vg30 on an rb?

sometimes you may get lucky and have it overlooked but at the end of the day it's an induction modification, it alters emissions and in their eyes it shoudln't be there

long story short, cop rang him about a car, he had sold it previously on defect, cop was looking for the new owner as he was reported driving recklessly, and the cop warned him that you must not sell a defected vehicle, only to a wrecker.

Both Mike and Dave are correct, unless it's the STANDARD turbo, it isn't legal and they will nab you

when i took my 32 4dr through regency for the compliance check they told me that the best LEGAL upgrade would be a vg30 turbo as they were a standard nissan part.

but that was 2 yrs ago now. anything could have changed. if you need to know anything why dont you ring the ppl at vehical standards and ask. its not that hard and they are actually nice ppl. vehical standars went over my celsior top to bottom when that went through and were good to me. they never check cars but they happened to see a car with dished 18s on it so they looked into it and was confused with the stock celsior airbag system and components. so they looked into it.

Just a quick one to let you all know people at regency do read this thread

Can they jump on and clear things up for us? haha...

Calling up transport SA is fairly useless and most cops are misinformed with these things.

So i assume you actually called them and asked before stating that i was misinforming people....i know at least 3 mates cars have passed with the VG30 turbo....called vehicle standards and they said it should be ok

and there is another confirmation

there is your key word.

had you have called back 3 hours later, you may have been given a completely different answer.

there is a lack of consistency down there, depends who you deal with and what time of the week you deal with them

Nissan OEM parts are not illegal to have

just to re-itterate my previous point, they are unfortunately. as an example, fitting bnr34 wheels put a number of other nissans out of track (only by the smallest figure) when fitted - this is ILLEGAL according to vehicle standards

Yeah your right there mike.....there is a big difference depending on who you end up getting on the other side of the phone.

But you can use other Nissan OEM parts off a GTST not a GTR....so that isnt illegal :P

    • I dunno about that as a blanket statement. Pitwork is Nissan's "Nissan genuine" thing, and for stuff like timing belts, I have found them to be excellent. Of course, for things like oil filters, you always use proper trusted brands anyway, not whatever the OEM has taken to using.
    • Ahhhh... If you were putting 12V to the led in there, that's likely made it very unhappy. Chances are how you put power, was 12V across an LED that's meant to only have about 20mA through it at peak, and a forward voltage of about 1.8 to 2.4 volts. That circuit is likely only a 3V3 circuit, and will have a resistor in series with the led too. That's my guesstimate on that light, without having touched one.
    • Another vote for installing them and see how you go.  I mean, you already own them, why would you not fit them?
    • I have had too many of those over the years, my cars have a toolkit or at minimum a cheapy multi tool thing because its too easy to be snookered by some stupid plastic clip that stops you checking the battery terminal isn't loose.
    • Basically, if there is a part# on the nissan catalogue, it is a genuine part. There is a thing called "new old stock" which is stuff made years ago but never sold (or landfilled), but it is super hit and miss what you can buy. Other than some expensive Nismo stuff there is nothing new being made that suits these cars. The only time to be a little careful is (mostly in the US I think, but maybe Japan too), Nissan started rebranding some cheap crap maintenance parts like oil filters as "Pitworks"; stay away from them, if you are buying cheap just buy whatever the local car parts shop carries The three part numbers have an explanation on Amayama: 0V005 is auto, base style 0V015 is manual 0V505 is auto, hectic momo branded ones, maximum F&F points there!
