WOW You got reemed pretty good! What cruise was it? RCK? Anyone doing burnouts on the cruise? Someone must of reported to the Police about burnouts or something for them to raid the place and defect you like that...

It was the All Car Cruise "ACC" no there wasn't much activity of people being silly or doing burnouts. I was speaking to a police officer today who was at the raid on Saturday, as we always have police coming through our work. He said that all they were there for was to keep and eye on everyone, and to do sorta a police escort for us as there were so many cars, but when the police chief wanted to speak to the ACC leader person, the ACC leader apparently told the police to f**k off and then the trouble started. So the police said thats enough, gloves off, and thats when all hell broke loose for everyone.

that does not surprise me the slightest.

Nor me. So the ACC leader insults police at a cruise. Everyone suffered because of the cruise organiser? More than enough reason to stay clear of ACC. They're on SAPOLs shit list.

Getting my R33 back together to go through regency after the defect, how do they take front mount intercoolers, its a pretty neat setup, the piping has been cut through the wheel arch, but its only as big as the piping, with a insulation between the pipe and hole. The clutch fan has had the tip cut off the corner of each blade to allow for the piping to clear the fan. Will i have any dramas with any of this, apart from that the car is pretty much back to stock again. Thanks

I had worn the tips off my fan from it hitting my intercooler piping, I then snapped the rest of the bits off. They can't really see it so no one said anything. As long as the intake pipe isn't floating around in the engine bay it shouldn't be an issue.

Details stat.
so your all cleared? thats dope if you didnt have to go to regency!

yep , for a small price of $26.50 :P

sounds rather interesting mitch.....care to elaborate in regards to what happened/went down????

so i borrowed wheels off Lewis (volk34) and got an adr approved steering wheel, raised my coilovers up , put stock seat in and made the car appear stock

took it to the cop shop and was just like "oh hey guys i got defected for tyres and my horn not working, fair enough on the tyres as it was the day before pay day and i couldnt afford them but the horn was just a fuse which i replaced 2 hours later"

cop said "ahk mate gimme a sec ill get someone from traffic to come help you out" , last time i heard this , i got told to touch my toes and bite a pillow so i wasnt skeptical :P

few mins went past and an older guy comes out and asked what can he do for me , told him "hey mate just wanna get my car off defect, its ticked as minor but also ticked as vehicle inspection, was just wondering if you can take it off as its only tyres and steering wheel , this is the wheel i had on there and its not illegal"

cop; "ahk yeah lets go have a look at the car , where is it parked ?"

me; "out the front to the left buddy"

walks out there , asks if he can look in it , opens the drivers door , spends not even 10 seconds looking in it , then just looks up n down the car from the side and goes "alright mate come back in side"

at this point im like shiiiiiit im gonna get another sticker

go back in side and he messes around on the computer for a couple minutes , im shitting myself at this point haha

few mins pass and he gets another cop , now im packing it haha

few mins go past , yadda yadda yadda

cop "alright mate that will be $26.50"

/hands over debit card

cop "that saves ya the stupid $150 + fee that regency charge ya"

me "im glad that your committed to your job :), thank you so much for being helpful"

cop "thats alright mate, have a great weekend"

me "sure will matey , you too ! "

if only more cops were like that ;)

I'm currently taking bets as to how long Mitch will last before the next defect

currently the popular bet is on <7 days :P

*if last night was anything to go by...

must be that bright orange paintjob that the po-po think means 'kick me square in the nuts' :(

    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
    • You don't have an R34 service manual for the body do you? Have found plenty for the engine and drivetrain but nothing else
    • If they can dyno them, get them dyno'd, make sure they're not leaking, and if they look okay on the dyno and are performing relatively well, put them in the car.   If they're leaking oil etc, and you feel so inclined, open them up yourself and see what you can do to fix it. The main thing you're trying to do is replace the parts that perish, like seals. You're not attempting to change the valving. You might even be able to find somewhere that has the Tein parts/rebuild kit if you dig hard.
