According to http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/po...34-ss595-1-.pdf a 255 tyre will fit onto rims 7.5" - 9" with standard rim width being 8.5 (this is for 255/40/R17)

From what I understand it should be ok

235/35R18 is an uncommon size, you would be better off getting 235/40R18 and 255/35R18.

Without specifying what brand or type of tyre you are looking for you cant possibly hope for a price, there is far to much price variance in the market.

a 255 on a 8.5" tyre is going to look pretty funny, like a 4wd rim lol

Thats a pretty silly thing to say.

Im running 255/40R17's on 8.5" rims at the moment and it looks fine, it depends on what type / brand of tyre you have as to how physically wide it is and what wheel size is recommended.

I have personally compared two different tyre brands (which I wont name) in exactly the same size to each other side by side and there was nearly an inch difference in width.

lol what the f**k

so a 255/40 in one brand is a different width to a 255/40 in another brand?

come on. put the ice pipe down

Yes you read that correctly, well done.

Tyre sizes are only relevant within each brand, if you were to line up every single tyre available in 255/40R17 (for example) side by side you would notice that many of them were totally different physical widths.

There is no governing rule that says that if you make a tyre with 255/40R17 written on the sidewall it has to be exactly the same width as everything else on the market.

i had a set of 7.5"wide BBS wheels which had a total physical width of 8.12inches.

i highly doubt this variance will be consistant throughout brands. some may be accurate, depending on the shape of the wheel.

i'd assume this variance similarly carries through to tyres.

food for thought.

i reckon you're full of shit bullet

tezzah, you don't run tyre from the absolute lip of the rim to the lip of the rim though the tyre goes into the rim inside that lip

I didnt say that...

I was making the point that how a tyre looks on a wheel cannot be judged by the width of said rim. the actual width of both tyre, and wheel must be known to make such judgement

and im +1 with bullet

i had silverstone's on my 9" wide rims 235/45r17....they looked a tad stretched but now i have some advan ad07's in the rear and they aren't as stretched so its true about different brands being different sizes.

i think 255 might be abit too much for 8.5". like it is the correct size but its more on the minimum fit. 255 can fit 10"-11" wide with stretch?

255 are also expensive so unless you really want to, 255 should be fine for 8.5".

Mick is well respected in the tyre industry so you might want to do a bit of research before you make a stupid comment like that.
