I'm also miffed how you managed to fit a diesel nozzle in.....theyre designed differently for the "life challenged" people out there, if you managed to defeat this safety feature you truly are king.

Was that one of those Diesel Ultimate pumps from BP? They really should change the colour of the handles... Ultimate and Diesel Ultimate are both blue. I park up at the diesel one once but it does say Diesel Ultimate on the handle.

This has been hounding me all day as i dont get it.

Did you actually get the nozzle in the hole? If so... HOW?

Or did you realise it didnt fit... and then dribbled half a tank in through the flapper??

Or do you not have a correctly complied car, and its missing filler neck restrictor or something?

No seriouslym here in WA we have ultimate diesel now and they look identical to the ultimate 98 pumps with the exception one says ultimate diesel the other say ultimate unleaded 98.

I have parked up next to one a couple of times and thought thats gonna catch someone out one day.

Fair enough it might look the same, but how do you insert a diesel nozzle into an unleaded fuel tank hole, they make them different with a restrictor for this exact reason!

So the diesel ultimate has the same nozzle as unleaded petrol over in WA?

that would be nasty for the servo to have the nozzle the same size as the petrol nozzles

but then again diesel costs like 50 cents more a litre so that would piss you off even more trickling it in to smaler size nozzle at 1.50 a litre :rofl:

that would suck mate

The actual pump you'll find - wont go into the hole.

Thats what people are struggling with.

Diesel by law has to have a different fitting, so that this doesn't occur.

i was thinking the exact same thing.

If your car is correctly complied and has the filler neck restritor that it is suppose to have then how did you manage to get 30+ litres of fuel in without thinking something is wrong??

From what I've read, we no longer have to have the restrictors in.

They were only mandatory during the time when leaded, and lead replacement fuels were available to stop the mix up there.

Also, if the pumps were designed to avoid the mix up, then the sizes really should be swapped... :rofl:

A petrol motor can run with diesel mixed into it, as it needs REALLY high compression ratios, or a flame front to ignite it. Hence, it'll just make the car run really oily, and blow blue/black smoke until it's all gone.

Now, throw petrol in a diesel motor and watch all hell break loose as the petrol pre-ignites, then ignites the diesel, then bends rods as we've only just started the compression stroke... Not finishing it...

interesting.....so new cars dont have nozzle restrictors anymore? im gonna have to check some cars our for curiositys sake

Fuel filler restrictors haven't been required as part of the compliance process for imports since leaded fuel was phased out over 12 months ago. And thank goodness, because the ones most of them used are rubbish.

If you have one and it keeps clicking off when you try and pump too fast, feel free to pull it out.

In Mildura probably lol, but a lot of people use diesel powered cars these days in the inner suburbs where large trucks rarely venture, so diesel pumps can be anywhere in the station. Some servos have a lock-out feature you have to push to release the nozzle of the pump before you can put it in your car, as a safeguard.

pull offf fuel return and run pump till empty, then fill up with fuel and drain another 10 or so litres out just to flush. We used to get all the hire cars with the same problem.

    • I appreciate the detailed explanation, think I understand now. I spent the better part of last night reading what I could about shuffle and potential solutions. I had replaced the OEM twin turbo pipe with an alternate Y pipe that is separated further away from the turbo. The current one is from HKS and I had a previous pipe that was separated even further away, both have shuffle. I had heard that a divider can be welded in to the OEM pipe to remove turbulence, and figure that aftermarket pipes that are more separated would achieve the same thing. From what I read, most people with -10 turbos get shuffle due to their size, though it's a bit less common with -5s on a standard RB26. I think Nismoid mentioned somewhere it's because OEM recirculation piping is common in Australia with -5 cars. It seems that the recommendation tends to vary between a few options, which I've ordered in what I think is most feasible for me:  1. Retune the MAP or boost controller to try to eliminate shuffle 2. Install OEM recirculation piping 3. Something called a 'balance pipe' welded onto the exhaust manifolds. I don't know if kits for this are available, seems like pure fabrication work 4. simply go single turbo My current layout is as follows: Garrett 2860 -5s HKS Racing Suction intake MAF delete pipes HKS racing chamber intake piping hard intercooler piping,  ARC intercooler HKS SSQV BOV and pipe Haltech 2500 elite ECU and boost solenoid/controller HPI dump pipes OEM exhaust manifolds HKS VCAM step 1 and supporting head modifications Built 2.6 bottom end All OEM recirculation piping was removed, relevant areas sealed off I'll keep an eye out for any alternative solutions but can get started with this.  Only other question is, does shuffle harm the turbo (or anything else)? It seems like some people say your turbo shafts will explode because of the opposing forces after a while and others say they just live with it and adjust their pedal foot accordingly. 
    • That worked out PERFECTLY! Thank you big time to JJ. He was able to swap me his stock diff. He drove all the way to me as well. Killer! Removal & install was pretty straightforward. The diff itself is HEAVY. So that’s a 2 man job.  Man does the car drive nice now! Couldn’t have worked out any better 👌
