Any of the organisers care to clarify why the Open and Pro class rules are so similar?

What is to stop me, being a complete unknown, building a monster car, with lexan windows, cf doors, bumpers, boot, pedal box, workshop sponsorship and not getting a special invite to race in Pro Class as no=one knows Jack Black, subsequently I then race in Open Class and running 1:12s and demolish the field. (a little extreme) :P

You should make the rules based on some form of mechanical as someone will rock up in say the ex Russ n Mark R32 GTR and demolish the field when it should really be in Open Class???

Some great rules stolen from QLD's Timeattack worth considering for Open Class to differentiate it between Pro Class...

Must have a rear exiting exhaust system with a muffler.

Must have OEM glass.

Must have OEM doors.

Must have both front seats (aftermarket allowed)

Must not have in cabin adjustable brake bias / pedal box.

That way the 3x classes really would differ and be a step up... :P

Care to clarify?

On another note, if you do have a roll cage in open class (not required), and is bolt in from Japan, must it still be CAMS approved?

Cheers & looking forward to an awesome event either way.

Good to hear that it will be on again but three classes in one day is a bit much don't you think.

Pro Class will get plenty of track time

Opens will get a reasonable amount

And poor old club sprint will get the scraps

Our group last SL only got from around 10 - 18 laps all day.

Why don't you consider having it on two days and have pro and opens practice sessions on the first day ( two 15 min sessions each or similar ) and 3 groups of clubsprints with 5 or 6 sessions each??????

Anyways i don't mean to be a winger just trying relay some of the frustrations that some people had with the last one.

Good luck and i am sure it will be great what ever way you go. Even if i am not competing i will most likley be there supporting the SAUers that do.

I here your reservations but i think the best policy for these sort of events is run with a few rules and as cars and drivers emerge then refine the rule. No point framing rules around what cars people say they are going to build, may be turning up with. Its best to have some thought out rules, and refine them.

I tend to agree regarding doors and glass for the Open class, but then again i am happy to run against cars more modified then mine. Provided the guy in the drivers seat owns the car then driving ability is a thing that varies a lot from car to car and can easily and cheaply be improved to match the other guys.

Now in the Pro Class no matter how hard i try, how regular i practice and how much money i spend on mods...there is no way i will be able to compete with semi pro drivers, driving instructors etc etc.

So i am happy to see have the Open and Pro class fairly similar. It means i can gauge myself on the guys up ahead, but really only compete with regaular guys like me....and my car stll runs a std RB20, doors, glass, gearbox, std basic weight etc etc

But it has enough power to justify semi slicks as without them i struggle as awd cars with the same power, weight and tyre will destroy me irrespective of whether they are better drivers, worse drivers etc.

I agree with Ryan.

Last session I got 3 hot laps in, even though there was the rx7 incident....we still got rorted some good track time.

I dont think I'll enter it, mainly because of the money issue, and I'll be more focused on another club Im with for their sprint series.

that's only because of the RX7 oil down in your group. That's unfortunate that it cost you track time, but the organisers had no control over that.

Sure the Open class got slightly longer sessions and the opportunity to get a handful more laps in, but they are paying almost double the Clubsprint entry fee afterall. But Superlap isn't a "track day" about getting maximum time on the track anyway, is a competition where you are just trying to get the best single lap time possible. 18 laps is heaps for that purpose (most of Clubsprint got just under 20 laps in), particularly when you consider most tracks are at their fastest early in the day so that's the best time to put your fastest lap down.

Just because they're having 3 Classes doesn't mean there will neccesarily be more cars or even more groups than last time.

So im trying to figure out where an RB30 GTR would be.....other than open it looks like nowhere. Nathan, there wont be any provisions for street cars with engine swaps? >_<

Race opens ya girl....cars that should have been quicker than us were 5 seconds slower in clubsprint due to shit rubber.

Why would you want to play reserve grade when a first grade spot is up for grabs?

I think you already answered your own question >_<

My virtually stock 32 has a cage.... so it's Open for me :)

Prepare yourselves 500AWKW GTR shitters........

You are one up on me, my virtually stock R32 only has a half cage >_< Provided i am the first out there, get a clean lap in, up the boost to 35psi then hold on for a hot seond lap....i am pretty sure the oil down on my 3rd lap will prevent anyone going quicker :)

Our virtually stock r32 has NO CAGE, gets punted 50klm's to work each weekday, cranks out death metal tunes on the sick stezza, has room for two surfboards with the passengers seat reclined, runs std GTR brakes, has a childs car seat in the back!....and still runs 1.18's without trying too hard...lol

c'mon Steve-o if our sh1tbox can compete in opens yours is a shoe-in

How many cars at this ears event John :P Care for a spin a lowly R32 GTSt. It would be funny to see it up where it doesnt belong :(

Serious question. If i enter Clubsprint with the tyres i drive there on. Enter Open with a set of RE55s, can i enter Pro if i get a hired gun? If so would you do the entrant a better entry fee for entering all 3 classes? Or more likely a combination of two out of three classes?

    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
    • Is this a brand new LSD? if so, have you followed any break/bed in procedure for it? Usually involves heaps of figure 8 patterns, a fluid flush.
    • It's TWO steering wheels actually. 😛 one for each hand They are wheels, and they steer!
