my gfs cousin is a police officer in sydney she hates hwp after they booked her partner for crossing double lines!

Commonsense applies here.

If he was going over an unbroken line on an apex, he should be booked.

If he went over an unbroken line whilst getting past a parked car (for instance), he shouldn't.

Sometimes it comes down to attitude - on both sides.

yeah i dont think HWP are in it to make friends, if they were it would a pretty masochistic endeavor.

they are at about the bottom of my list when it comes to generalising about random occupations i cant stand, unless their only job was to attend accidents and book drivers who hog overtaking lanes, they would move pretty quickly to the top then. (of course this is a sweeping generalisation, been pulled over by some nice enough blokes and of course with my new found maturity shouldnt even have to find out first hand if my pet hate is valid).

@ rb25, being a mature law fearing driver is par for the course when ur an SAU member, we have a reputation to uphold right? still would be nice to know when u guys are out just for er, satisfying general curiosity..

alright enough trolling and flaming, leave jahn alone, he makes it far too easy to turn it into a shit fight otherwise.

more 'cool story bro' stuff, how many of you guys have managed to talk ur way out of a ticket? or at least had the fine reduced a little on the spot with a bit of charm and a sparkle in the eye?

i for one know about 3 or 4 chicks who have been flat out let off just for showing the right amount of cleavage and a winning smile. yet to see it in person but probably coz its only a girl on her own who would get away with it, wonder if its less likely these days now that all the stops are recorded with video/audio?

  • 2 weeks later...

I work around moorebank n have seen these coppers. Now, say u get suckered in by the cops tryn to go ya n u get booked, surely u can contest this due to both parties driving negligently..

If there gonna neck u for driving like a spaz, might aswell take them to the cleaners 2.

Cops are there to police irresponsible behaviour, not friggin encourage it. Tossers.

Thats is so true, a few weeks ago i lent my skyline to a friend (a chick) because i needed a lift home from the pub that night. She picked me up at about 1am and on our way to her place she gets pulled over by HWP. Does the usual RBT then walks around the car a few times with his torch and ask's whos car it is and why its damaged, i said it why mine and gave him an explination. He walks to his car for 5 mins then comes back and says "i'll let you off tonight even though you're driving a defective vehicle but if i see you driving it around i will defect you." If i was driving it i'm more than sure that i would've been bent over and defected. Not to mention she wasn't even showing any cleavage, its bullshit double standards but im glad the car didn't get defected lol

I live around the Sutherland Shire, Christmas eve 2009 - I had had my Red P's for about 4 months, pulled out of my mates street behind a green commodore (recognised it as the local HWP undercover, as I live near the HWP base for the shire). The cop saw me, pulled over, waited for me to drive past, floored it behind me, overtook me illegally on a one lane road over double lines, then pulled back over, came up behind me again, tailgated me for about 5 minutes, then pulled me over (had 4 mates in the car) did a RBT. He said I had blown over (hadn't had a drink in over 2 weeks) so I said to him if he wants to take me back to the station & discuss how he overtook me, then do a proper breath test & waste both of our times, then he was welcome to. He said I was free to go, went speeding off.

Considering HWP wear microphones and have In Car Video they'd be risking their job to do this.

Go write a novel mate.

on the eastern distributor a few weeks ago i had a R31 skyline and a stock new lancer trying to race me at 1am in the morning..

Admittedly i baited the R31 into a race then as he went, i let him and the lancer go for it, they hit i reckon about 140-150...

Lights lit up on the lancer (was undercover) and the R31 got done hard! i just cruised past and went on my way :)

So what you're saying is, you baited the R31, he took the bait, you pulled out, and a copper at the right place, at the right time, booked him?

I think the more important question is.... since when did HWP use Lancers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, ive herd of them using aurions (yet to see) but other than commo's and falcons what other undercover cars do police have access to??

In Wollongong we have:

Commodores,

Falcons,

Pajeros

Hilux Utes

Corollas

Lancer

Tarago

Magnas

We used to have a Rav4 or a CRV, and house mate says he's been pulled by a Camry before as well.

Correct, it wasnt hwy patrol, car didnt have tint or anything, cause i was along side him and didnt notice anything werid apart from the fact a new base lancer wanted to race, i thought it was pretty funny, but it was a cop... the guy in the R31 must have shat himself!

i couldnt believe it either, but its a true story. Happened 3 weeks ago on a wednesday night.

Was cruising down heathcoate rd moorebank when a green SS and a yellow XR8 come flying up through the traffic the XR8 slows down next to me gives it a rev then looks inside to see my 8 year old daughter starring back at him from the passenger seat, he then dropped down a gear and floored it to catch up to the SS, Shortly afterwoods i was sitting at lights when the SS and XR8 pulled up after doing a blockie and to my surprise the were cops with lights on the dash and plain clothed.

I suspect they thought i would race them and make a easy bust.

BEWARE

Just find it sad that they are resorting to this. its all good and all that they are trying to get recless drivers off the road but to actualy try and prokve an offence is plain sad. It seems its not about road safety any more but money and their next promotion. Just plain low

So who was trying to run you? The R31 or the Lancer?

I'd say, from their perspective they've seen you and the R31, and someone is G'ing someone up in that group, and they just came along for the ride.

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
