I think if FOTA are decisive in the break then they can make it work. Tracks will open the doors to a series with the best teams and drivers where they are not charge scary licensing fees etc. Sure it wouldnt be easy, but there would be the desire to do so.

My biggest concern is that FOTA are united against a common enemy, what happens when mid season they have their differences, how do they remain impartial when they are fighting each other?

Still hope the Concorde agreement and FIA listen to the teams running the cars and we move past all this rubbish.

Oh, and Hamilton is doing a Button. Poor car and all of a sudden his team mate seems to be doing the better job, so seems to be suffering from motivation. So only interested in giving 100% when the car is a weapon?

sing it with me.... hamilton is a dirty hack... who was gifted a WDC by a team that favoured him and a car that was years ahead of the best of the rest. it's a wonder they didn't win every race of the year. well they would have if they'd had one decent driver between the pair. I promise if they'd had a webber or a kimi they would not have been shitting themselves in the last race of the year when they by some magic stroke of luck gained 1 extra point on the last corner of the championship. pretty weak that even in the best machine he only won the championship in the last race by sheer luck.

consider this. in 07 he lost by a point and 08 he won by a point. he was a bee's dick off being a being a 2 time runner up. and both years he had the better car by a long way.

HACK!

now to current events. who would have thought that half way through the season there are 4 drivers in with a shot of WDC. and that those 4 drivers would be 2 red bull drivers and 2 brawn drivers and they would be webber, vettel, buton and rubens. and that hamilton the looser would be struggling to get into Q2. and kimi seems to be completely disinterested these days. webbers call was pretty apt when he spoke to peter windsor and said that"'kimi was dreaming about a bottle of champange or some vodka when I came up behind him on my hot lap", lol webber is still 100% aussie that's for sure.

I would've thought that figure would be higher than 67%

Bernie and Max are still pretty adamant that the situation will get sorted with the 2010 Melbourne GP still 9 months away.

I said exactly the same thing last night. Ferrari, McLaren, RBR with an Australian driver, Renault, there's 80% of your Australian F1 fan base right there...Williams and Force India aren't exactly making up a massive percentage on their own

I think yesterdays race we saw Mark pull back abour 4 seconds on Vettel over the 2nd and 3rd stint. I think h was about 23sec down into the first pit stop and up to the third last lap he was bout 18seconds behind.

You've gotta be the most one eyed Webber supporter getting around Bris :D You know Vettel was coasting, with almost a pit stop in hand already why wouldn't he. P1, fastest lap and the win.

As far as Webber goes, I don't see him winning a race without a lot happening in front of him...If he can get on pole, and lead from the get go, without running a stupidly short first stint, then he'd be a chance. Starting from P2 downwards though, he pretty much needs Vettel, Button and Barrichello (obviously not this weekend) to do something stupid for him to take a win, in my opinion of course.

You make some good points Baron.

Lewis after all was pretty much handed the title in Brazil depending on how one looks at it..... (ducks for cover...)

FOTA have 8 teams united at the moment not 4, but having said that I will be surprised if a compromise isn't found and everyone goes racing again next year

yep, hamilton did everything he could to loose the 08 championship. it should have been a snack but continuing ammatuer fk ups cost him points. he should never had found himself 7th on the last lap of the race with massa crossing the line and thinking he'd one the championship only to see hamilton have it gifted to him on the last corner. and it was pretty much the same thing in 07 except that time luck fell the other way and kimi took it off him by 1 point.

troy, yeah I think you are onto something. guys like hamilton/kimi/button who have tasted a top level car seem to go walkabout if the car is not up to par and just turn up, circulate, collect pay check then head back to monaco for champagne and blow jobs.

where as guys like webber who went from being always top 3 in other categories then stepped into a smoking hot (lol) minardi will fight and knife you to death just to get into 8th place and score a single point. he turns up no matter what he is driving to get the most out of the thing. remember back to the way he strangled that absolute heap of garbage wearing a jaguar badge to get enough pace out of it for the odd front row start. I love kimi and he is surely in the top 5 most talented drivers and racers in F1 back fk me ragged you'd hate to be his boss as if you tried to explain to him the meaning of the words work ethic I'm sure you'd just get a blank look...

webber is not done yet dezz. he will get a win this year. I'm sure of it.

even this little quote from yesterdays post race interview makes me believe. he still has the fire to make it happen.

"The guys have buried themselves at the factory, including Renault with the engines. Obviously Dietrich (Mateschitz), the big boss back in Austria, is very proud of us today, getting a first and second again this year and I’m looking forward to my day when I can jump into the seat next to me. But today I’m actually happy with what I got out of it. Sebastian deserves to win today, so we’ll take it to another day."

and since it is F1 related is anyone else shocked that michael schumacher is the stig on top gear uk? i never would have guessed that one. I was thinking some kind of brittish touring car or sports car driver. maybe an F3 or GP3 driver but no way did I think it was MS...

I won't say he won't win a race this year, but I personally just don't see it happening 'easily' (not that winning a race is ever easy even when it may seem that way) but you know what I mean..

When was that revealed? I didn't hear it...

How long has be been The Stig?

not sure how long. just saw it in an email from my gf. http://www.smh.com.au/news/entertainment/t...5522764794.html

they make it sound like it's been him ever since season 3 though.

Fair suck of the sav, i am a Webber fan but i am hardly one eyed. Vettel had absolutely dropped a few revs and was looking after the car....but the question is to what extent? Webber was a tad heavier with fuel, i think 2 or 3 laps, and was the quickest guy on the track for majority of the second session. Vettel was the second quickest with only Rosberg close to Vettels times in the middle stint. So he may have dropped the rev limit 300 or so rpm but he was still trying. The traffic meant that he had to stay on it because no gap was going to be safe with that sort of traffic and a pit stop to come.

I would argue that Webber pulled the gap back on merit. In the closing laps they were both going for quickest laps of the race and dipping into the high 1:20s so i think in the final stint it was Webber who was trying to conserve the car as he went from the final stop to where he was 15 seconds behing back out to 21sec where it settled at 18 seconds.

But its all BS, simple fact is Vettel won the race in the first 15 laps when i think for the first 7 laps every sector was quickest and lighting up purple on the live timing. EVERY sector, even then he did about 2-3 laps with 2 of the 3 sectors being quickest of the race....all the while Button was over a second slower with Nakajima and co able to hold withing 2.5-4 seconds off Webbers rear bumper :(

Stand out for me is that he was pulling a second a lap from the get-go, whilst being the heaviest one of the bunch bar Massa (I'm not 100% on that but pretty sure from memory). The race was pretty much won when he qualified P1 with the heaviest fuel load, barring any incident of course.

Do you think it was a throw off tho?

i watched the episode this morning and it could play both ways really..

    • I'm looking for some real world experiences/feed back from anyone who has personally ran a EFR7670 with a 1.05 exhaust housing or a .83 I'm leaning towards the .83 because its a street car used mostly for spirited driving in the canyons roads. I"m not looking for big numbers on paper. I want a responsive powerband that will be very linear to 8000 rpm. I dont mind if power remains somewhat flat but dont want power to drop off on top. The turbo I've purchased is a 1.05, although the mounting flange T3 vs T4 and internal vs external waste gates are different on both housings, I not concern about swapping parts or making fabrication mods to get what I want. Based on some of the research I've done with chat gpt, the 1.05 housing seems to be the way to go with slightly more lag and future proofing for more mods but recommends .83 for best response/street car setup. AI doesn't have the same emotions as real people driving a GTR so I think you guys will be able to give me better feed back 😀
    • Surely somebody has one in VIC. Have you asked at any shops?  Is this the yearly inspection or did you get a canary?
    • This is where I share pain with you, @Duncan. The move to change so many cooling system pieces to plastic is a killer! Plastic end tanks and a few plastic hose flanges on my car's fail after so little time.  Curious about the need for a bigger rad, is that just for long sessions in the summer or because the car generally needs more cooling?
    • So, that is it! It is a pretty expensive process with the ATF costing 50-100 per 5 litres, and a mechanic will probably charge plenty because they don't want to do it. Still, considering how dirty my fluid was at 120,000klm I think it would be worth doing more like every 80,000 to keep the trans happy, they are very expensive to replace. The job is not that hard if you have the specialist tools so you can save a bit of money and do it yourself!
    • OK, onto filling. So I don't really have any pics, but will describe the process as best I can. The USDM workshop manual also covers it from TM-285 onwards. First, make sure the drain plug (17mm) is snug. Not too tight yet because it is coming off again. Note it does have a copper washer that you could replace or anneal (heat up with a blow torch) to seal nicely. Remove the fill plug, which has an inhex (I think it was 6mm but didn't check). Then, screw in the fill fitting, making sure it has a suitable o-ring (mine came without but I think it is meant to be supplied). It is important that you only screw it in hand tight. I didn't get a good pic of it, but the fill plug leads to a tube about 70mm long inside the transmission. This sets the factory level for fluid in the trans (above the join line for the pan!) and will take about 3l to fill. You then need to connect your fluid pump to the fitting via a hose, and pump in whatever amount of fluid you removed (maybe 3 litres, in my case 7 litres). If you put in more than 3l, it will spill out when you remove the fitting, so do quickly and with a drain pan underneath. Once you have pumped in the required amount of clean ATF, you start the engine and run it for 3 minutes to let the fluid circulate. Don't run it longer and if possible check the fluid temp is under 40oC (Ecutek shows Auto Trans Fluid temp now, or you could use an infrared temp gun on the bottom of the pan). The manual stresses the bit about fluid temperature because it expands when hot an might result in an underfil. So from here, the factory manual says to do the "spill and fill" again, and I did. That is, put an oil pan under the drain plug and undo it with a 17mm spanner, then watch your expensive fluid fall back out again, you should get about 3 litres.  Then, put the drain plug back in, pump 3 litres back in through the fill plug with the fitting and pump, disconnect the fill fitting and replace the fill plug, start the car and run for another 3 minutes (making sure the temp is still under 40oC). The manual then asks for a 3rd "spill and fill" just like above. I also did that and so had put 13l in by now.  This time they want you to keep the engine running and run the transmission through R and D (I hope the wheels are still off the ground!) for a while, and allow the trans temp to get to 40oC, then engine off. Finally, back under the car and undo the fill plug to let the overfill drain out; it will stop running when fluid is at the top of the levelling tube. According to the factory, that is job done! Post that, I reconnected the fill fitting and pumped in an extra 0.5l. AMS says 1.5l overfill is safe, but I started with less to see how it goes, I will add another 1.0 litres later if I'm still not happy with the hot shifts.
