ok so havent driven my gtst for like a year now.. as i bought a GTR and now have an audi...

anyways theres a few things wrong with it.. i jsut serviced it today.. yet to do sparkies...i will tomorrow

but when i drive and come to a set of lights and go down through the gears.. and when im slowly rooling ill put it in neutral. the idles drop tooooo low and it almost stalls sometimes it does..(i think its the timing.. i remember taking the whole thing of whne i was "learning" about cars)

also when i drive

smoothly driving along... the all of a sudden it just cuts out... like the cars still on.. but its as if im puting the clutch it.. the revs just DROP and no matter if im pusshing the accelerator.. it still drops.. but then it kicks in for a second again... and then drops an kinda sputters

then it wont let it build boost....after this... it jsut goes back to normal

heres just a video of it idling...

can someone tell me what that HIGH PITCHED RINGING is???

Yeah id also back the AFM theory. Those symptoms sound like the sedate version of what happened with mine. Mine felt like i was out of petrol, youd put ur foot down & it would go, then stop, then go again several times a second. f**kin nuts!!!

As for the dropping revs, mine does that a little at times. I usually drive around it without even noticing, but i think the IAC valve on the back of the intake plenum may just need adjusting. Or it could even be the TPS not picking up 100%, either way i dont think its too major. Theyre the 2 devices that seem to play with revs when the car isnt yet at idle.

The not building boost issue, the only thing i could relate it to is either the ECU or turbo. If the turbo is blown, there will be a shit load of smoke i would think, but it doesnt sound like it. If you have the standard ECU, unless you are driving along in gear the engine wont build boost above 0. Its a built in safety i believe, could have something to do with whatever the sensor is for this. If the car is idling, or the clutch is in & you rev it, it just wont build boost, id see how the AFM bit goes, & if the problem still exists look into this.

PS, please let me know about the dropping revs if you solve it, should cut down the amount of time i spend stuffing around with it.

Cheers

ok thanks for the advice guys... sorry about the vid

here it is!

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
