Yeh I know it sucks balls so im gonna apply for exemption with as many reason as possible if failed ill swap car with Parents while I save money =) or I could be a daredevil and drive it on P's but itd suck to get caught

I think i posted in wrong section so any of u mod guys can move it if it is in wrong place =)

Yeh im pretty bored on days when im not working

Edited by NISMØ

exemption for a worked 33 haha, good luck mate....the only real exemption out there for p platers and high performance cars is for tradeys in their xr6 turbos n xr8's for towing purposes.

Edited by willL

Lol the stages in my 1st post explain what ill have on m P's and that just like exhaust, BoV, cooler and not very noticeable stuff. I know I probly wont get the exemption but I got plans if I dont. Ill atleast try lol but your probly right.

^^^

Ive never understood this "i'll just go for basic not noticeable mods and hope not to get caught" attitude. Have you stop and thought about if you were to have an accident and more importantly if you were to hit someone that you ARE NOT insured at all. You are driving a car that you SHOULD NOT be driving. Imagine being up for a $400,000 medical bill becasue you hit some bloke on the footpath. EEP!!! Getting caught by the authorities is the least of your worries!

From personal experience if i had owned my GTR when I was a teenager i dare say I wouldnt have been here today. Driving dads falcon around i sit and think back about the mischief I got up to.

I appologise if i trud on some toes, but its only the fact's.

If that is your end goal for the car this is what i suggest.

Buy yourself a 1.5L run about for daily driving.

Keep the Skyline in the garage and slowly build it up to the point where you want it. There is no need to go through steps 1,2,3 to get to step 4.

Do step 4 and thats it! Trust me if i knew my car was going to get to the stage its at now i would have done things very differently.

Save yourself time and money and do it once and properly otherwise you will spend 10 times more than you expected.

END THREAD

Piggaz its abit slack to think of every young kid as a hoon but I see where your coming from oh and Nytsky i read your engine build thread and your info Is good cuz your right I probly will save alot of money, Ill just have to wait and see how things turn out =)

:(

i think you need to do a bit more research matey...

for a start you have a bov listed as a mod, not a wank :(

secondly your gonna buy an emanage, THEN a haltech? :D

you also wanna spring for a 6boost mani and then have cheapass chinese exhaust?

also you'll need

a bigger afm,

suspension setup (coilovers, camber, castor, sways, pineapples minimum)

wider wheels

tyres tyres tyres tyres

with that much power you're also gonna want oil restrictors and custom returns in the head, a baffled sump and an oil cooler

bucket seats to hold you in place (350rwkw @ 1.35 tonnes is a LOT of power)

money for repair bills, tuning, etc etc etc

that's an extra 10k i just found in a 30 second think...

my advice...

buy a 92 corolla gt and get the 4age head conversion, extractors, zorst, pod etc and have fun with that.

then when you are off your p's see where your life is at (not to mention petrol prices) in 2014 and if you still wanna do it

If that is your end goal for the car this is what i suggest.

END THREAD

Oh ye end thread because he is dead going from 140rwkw to 350rwkw in a blink of an eye without any idea how to drive a high powered vehicle.

Going in stages costs more, but at least it wont cost you your own life because you've learn the car as it goes.

To the OP - are you from Vic?

If so, throw that plan in the bin and RB26 if you want power without the hassle, the only way as legalities are getting worse by the week here.

Or honestly - spend the $$ on a XR6 turbo. They are cheap now, and a much better base in all honesty

Piggaz its abit slack to think of every young kid as a hoon but I see where your coming from oh and Nytsky i read your engine build thread and your info Is good cuz your right I probly will save alot of money, Ill just have to wait and see how things turn out =)

no its a bit naive of you to think that i a high powered rear drive car you will not push the boundaries and limits of yourself and car.

starting to learn to drive in a high performance car in itself isnt a good idea for this fact. hence why they have brought in this ruling for P plater drivers.

as many ppl have suggested get a little run around and learn to drive first. then get a good car and start modifying.

JUDAS! :(

Judas? Oh pipe down you wanna be Moses. Im still holding onto my GTS-R, judas my a$$ :D

Think when he is 19-20 what a XR6 is worth, peanuts just like R33's are now.

Better base, bigger/better tech motor and they rack out 400rwkw without a sniff.

If your after a mean streeter and so on then its a pretty clear choice.

you'd wanna hold on to it... it can't be too far from being classed as "vintage" :D

i know you can juice power out of an xr6t easily, but how do they handle with some suspension mods?

Here is what will happen:

Best case scenario:

You get a skyline you do all the first stage mods, most of which will get you more attention from the cops, especially the P plates, you get done for unroadworthy and driving a high powered vechile, you then have to sell it at a loss and buy a cheap shitter.

Worst case scenario:

your showing of in front of you mates (dont even try to tell me it wont happen bbbbaaaaahhhh, i told you not to say it) and lose control, at best you hit something soft and just damage the car, at worst you kill someone, either way the cops turn up and you are either fined and lose your license or your sharing a cell with bubba (to prepare you for that go watch "bad boy bubby").

The way it should be done:

You buy a $2000 cheap to run shitter, you put all the money you would have spent in an account with a good interest rate, in 6 years time when your 21 you will have the 40k you plan to spend buying an r33gtst and modding it plus the compounded interest, should add up to about 50k maybe more, you then buy your self a R35 gtr which by that time the private imports will probably be 70-80k, badda bing badda boom you have a car worth spending money on.

    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
