fane - suss the forced induction performance section in the general board. this has some really good info...

general suggestions are to set a power target - as this will dictate what mods you do. a full ECU upgrade is better in the long run if you want big upgrades and big power, but that's not for everyone.

Putting a WA spin on it - a lot of people in the forced induction section write off the WOLF as an ecu, because there seems to be a shortage of capable wolf tuners in some parts of east AUS. However, there are a number of guys in WA who have had really good results with WOLFs...probably largely due to the fact that there is a guy in WA who is experienced at tuning them..

That's not an endorsement persae, just information to enable you to make an informed decision. there's a bulkload of info on here about the benefits and disadvantages of each ECU, so go looking and ye shall find(e).

The Wolf can loose the AFM also and has full PC tuning and a life time Australian warranty plus many extra inputs and outputs and air temp comp noto mention if customs get you ( ask Micko)

and the ECU can be upgraded in a few days so it stays current.

SAU members get discounts also.

The wolf has more features and is easier to tune though

can you give any more information here paul? cos alot of people i know who arent on the forum are having to make the wolf vs power fc decision, and its nice to know the facts on both ECUs before makin a $2,000 decision!

cheers

Adam, Sure there are alot of differences between the two, many of which have already been outlined.

MAP senor inbuilt

laptop software

more map sites than the PowerFC

airtemp compensation

inbuilt boost controller

able to control large injectors, unlike PowerFC

rotational idle, anti-lag

programable output's

extra inputs

able to switch between maps on the fly

Hope that outlines some of the reasons it's better.

fane,

If you've got flat spots in your rev range go the AFC :P I personally would go for a Hybrid Front Mount before an AFC next time.

I've got a stock dump pipe, and a 2.5" (restrictive, but "jap spec") cat and ran a pretty good time without an AFC :(

ie. My next mod will be a Front Mount :)

Paul, I'm running 700cc injectors with a PFC and I've heard of cars that run 1000cc injectors with it. Not sure what you consider large injectors but they are plenty big enough for anybody out there :P

They both have their pros and cons. Tuning for the PFC is now a lot easier and better with the Datalogit as Steve has said, and stuff like antilag isn't for street use anyway. Air temp correction is available using this too I believe. From everyone I've spoken to for street cars AFM's are better for driveability, MAP's are better for racing..

How many map sites do the wolf use?? PFC uses 20 x 20 AFAIK..

As others have said it's all about personal preference and depending on what your tuner likes may sway your decision...

You can get brand new PFC's for around the $1,400 mark now..

my 2c.

Brett

Brett, Ask N4SPD about running large injectors with the PowerFC:uh-huh:

Although the Datalogit does increase the functionality of the hand-controller it is still a more tedious process.

Wolf can run virtually any AFM aswell.

PowerFC's are good for GTR's but other than that there loosing the battle unless they decide to update there ECU.

I think if you polled the number of PFC users compared to Wolf users the stats would tell you otherwise.. :P

For mild to mid modded cars either one is more than capable, but once you start getting serious most people don't use either of these.

How good is the standard maps in the wolf? Is it as plug and play as the PFC???

Brett

And datalogit is only available for some PFC's. And not every tuner has access to datalogit, Wolf software is downloadable off the net.

Don't get me wrong, I think PFC's are great. But when you consider local warranty, price etc etc etc, Wolf comes out very very far in front.

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
