hey everyone, i got a flat tyre yesterday and i had to use my space saver to limp home. but im concerned that i may have damaged something as the whole way home it was chugging like the diffs were locked in a 50/50 split and the front torque guage sat around half way up the whole time. should i be worried? i drove about 30km from work to home.

i checked the tyre sizes and the spare is .5% bigger then my other wheels, is this to much of a difference?

thanks for any help

What size rims/tyres have you got on?

Only way to check i suppose is to get the tyre fixed, put back on and see if you still have the same symptoms.

This is a constant worry for me as well, i'm running on 235/45/17's and yet to have a flat. But then, I've never had a flat (touch wood) in 20 years of driving.

I highly doubt you would have done any damage for such a short distance. However if you were driving for weeks/months then I could see something going wrong. Best way to find out is when normal wheels are all back on.

its a pity you live so far away, ive got 8 of those rims. my insurance paid me out for one of mine in an accident($700 each they are worth to buy) and i found a bob jane near me had a set for sale so i bought them. i just wish i could afford rims that sat better. i found some nice rims yesterday but they were $850 per rim and it would be 12-16 week wait to get them custon made.

i had to use my space saver the other day. im running 225 45 17 and although it looks the same size ill driving for bout half hour then allsudden i got a bad vibration that was on and off. my torque guage didnt move though?

i was only putting it, got my mag fixed and shes all sweet again.

This happened to me the other day i was running 225/40/18 now got it repaired and put 2 235/40/18 on the back but it sounds like the diff has a whine in it now any ideas. Is it likely to have caused damage only drove about 5 kms @ 60km/h or could it be tyre noise from the new tryes

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
