ok ... etbenno .. i'm lookin to do it in about a months time ... what do u all think?? it will give us all enough time to save up some money :) as well as checking out some places

best suggestions so far are: scorpions, miss nismo's work, i may visit tint a car on south rd over the next couple of weeks to see what they have.

i think it is illegal to tint door windows to any amount - in any case, i got mine done, as well as the quarters and rear for $200 cash at something-a-car on north-east rd. This was for their 20% stuff (which happens to also be illegal), and they removed the tint that was already on the quarters - so if you guys go the same place, you should as a group get it for $180 i think. Also, dont expect a reciept.

If in doubt ring regancy, Last I knew 35% was fine for the front windows and the back quarters and rear can be darker. It may be differant just for imports these days as they are looking for anything to defect us for.

ok guys ... it is not illegal to tint ur side windows ... it is illegal if they are tinted over or should i say under 35 percent i think ... and of course they will not give u a receipt if its illegal ... if u are in the legal limits u will get a little sticker and ur car cannot be defected cause of tint ...

It is no longer required in SA to have stickers specifying the % transmission of your window tint. There were dodgy guys out there putting 35 stickers on other darker tints, so they just pissed the rules off. You're ****ed if you get tested though.

My car is tinted in 20 all round, and I've never been looked at twice, but I don't drive an import.

Wish I still had the contact to pass on to you guys - it only cost me $160, but it was a mate's brother in law's cousin.

Yeah, when I took my old MX6 into Regency to get the VIN checked (to change rego from NT to SA) about 2 years ago they made me take off the front tint there and then. They had the tester out before I had even stopped the car - and I was ONLY there for a VIN check, not a vehicle inspection.

Most (read nearly all) cars come with around 18% factory tint in the driver and passenger windows, and they told me that 30% is max tint for side windows, so theoretically you would need under 12% tint to be legal (ie. factory 18% + 12% = 30%). At that time my windows tested at 32% so they made me take the tint off. They weren't concerned with the rears but I think they say 35% is allowable. But you should check with Regency before forking out your hard earned cash that might get you defected!

My $0.02c :P

yeah its dodgy, 35 is supposed to be legal, but as mentioned ive heard its illegal to tint the front door windows. My lil bro had 35's all round in his FESTIVA, even had the correct stickers, and regency made him pull it off there and then -apparently due to the "factory tint" thats supposedly in the factory glass. I had mine done, just the quarters and rear (35) and left the fronts. It looks way better, but im gonna get the front 2 done anyways....

    • oh they were with that motor, you need to remove the engine to change the spark plugs (don't have to, but it does make it easier)
    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
