I'm another DBA 4000 slotted happy customer :)

Great brake for your buck!

Got mine fitted last wednesday.....

AWESOME

DBA 4000 Slotted - with the Kangaroo paw and Heat paint...

$230 a rotor not to bad......

Very happy with the purchase, no regrets from this corner

:)

So whats the difference between the DBA slotted, and DBA 4000s???  Or isnt there a difference at all?

Appart from the heat paint and K Paw ventilation mentioned 4000s are also heat treated differently to the regular DBA slotted disks. They may even be a different grade of metal (not sure on that though).

Richard

Hi all, I had a quick search around but couldn’t exactly find what I was looking for, so here it goes.  Breaks are coming to the end of their life and unfortunately the standard rotors are now unable to be machined back any further (front currently at 27.1mm).  I have decided to go with slotted rotors this time around as one brand that the break specialist suggested was only around $50 more than a replacement stock item.  Now what I would like to know is if anyone has tried slotted rotors by a company called RDA (Rotors and Drums Australia) for their series 1 GTS-t R33 and what were they like etc?

At the moment tossing up the slotted RDA or the slotted DBA 4000 club-spec rotors, can anyone give me some reasons that would make my decision between the two easier? From what I can see on the forum most who have used the slotted DBA have been fairly happy.  Information on anyone’s experience with either would be appreciated.

I would advise to not buy the RDA ones. They are not a performance rotor (despite the slots)....

Richard

Does anyone know what the price differential between DBA 4000s and 5000s are?

LW.

not really, we have bought 5000 series discs only (not hats) and they were about the same price as the whole 4000 rotor. Not sure that they are worth the extra price...we needed to stay stock size so they were the best we could get, but if you aren't limited you would just buy bigger brakes

Thats muchly. So they are definately worth the extra money. Thats all Im after.

Interesting. Perhaps the 5000's are just overkill then.

They are lighter, being aluminium hats. The heat transfer to the wheel bearings is much less, and CV's if it's a GTR. Since they are semi floating, they align better to worn pads than rigidly mounted rotors. It all adds up to better car and braking performance over time, not better braking instantly.

Hope that makes sense

Certianly does make sense, thanks SK. Might have to look into the economics of it a bit more.

    • HELP   Hey all, Is there an accelerator cable from another Nissan that can be used on the R33 GTST RB25DET with a Greddy forward facing plenum?  Thanks in advance  Rob
    • Or do we think it was installed to give 1 bar of boost max, all day, everyday?
    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
    • I'm a fan of the JZX110, and the Aristo. Big cruiser cars, and with the factory cars, super comfortable and feel like you're driving an armchair! And the JZ motors are a pretty nice engine too, especially with some basic mods.   The import process, and the need to be able to trust people, and the fact there's so many scammers around is what ever puts me off wanting to go through that ordeal!
