hey crimmo i was just wondering how much did it cost u to get a RB20DET and where abouts did u get it from. also hows the swap going.

Hey boyd, i bought my RB20DET from Japanese Motorsport, it cost $1650, they were on special and i think they still may be. I also bought a VG30 turbo, 1 piece dump pipe + front pipe and a big f*** off front mount :D

The swap is going a bit slow, wiring looks imposible, and i think i will be taking it to fours'n'more to be wired up.

As for the cooler piping, i think ill run it over the rad pipe, not sure yet though, i will post some picture later today of the conversion so far :)

Coming along wickedly Crimmins mate!! Keep it up!!! Only issue is, ur motor was auto ay?? Is the stock ECU gonna be happy with the now manual conversion??? Just food for thought....Cooler looks like a nice fit to!

Josh i want them cupholders bro they rock :D

Crimmo nice work!Coming together well and should be a sweet ride.

DR JOSH thats one dirty engine!I gather it came of the boat like that as a front cut i just bought was a little grotty also. What did it spin up on the dyno.(Mine also needed people sitting on the boot due to the ark age rear suspension)

Here are some pics of the conversion so far

Stu_R30: Any tips for the wiring? How much need to be done before it will start/run? any pics?

i'll try to post up some pics of what my wiring looks like as i didnt do it and it looks like its all over the place, but it works!! also crimmo, those watanabe RS8 rims, what size are they as i'm looking at a set tommorro (ref to post 340 on page 14 for pic) any tips as thier wider than the hayashi's that were on the car to start with!

P.S. my car will be fin and engineered half way through next month in standard power output then once on road, rb25 turbo and unichip running the ECU she should be good for around 180-200rwkws!!

crimmo - to get them four spots on did you change to the r31 gts struts or did you adapt them with the standard mr30 stuff? im looking to do the 4spot converison soon and i have the 31 gts struts. anyone know of and hassles with this? and also crimmo, where did ya get that tower brace thingo (the blue thing) and how much?

also crimmo - was your car auto l24 once and did you get dragged by a trashed r30 with an rb20 down paynhem rd? (a while ago now)

Well you ain't getting the cup holders.

That was standard with a 3" turbo back exhaust. Made 117RWKW. It now has a cooler and some more boost and pulls alot harder yet to see what it makes, but I reckon somewhere round 140. Yep those pics are from it over in Japan still. And the engine bay still hasn't been cleaned to this day. They were the only photos I saw before I bought it and was very happy with it when it came over.

Josh/Crimmo when all our cars are back on the road well go have some cruisy fun and take some happy snaps..Maybe organise some kinda R/HR/DR30 cruise?? Those cup holders will be mine

Mike Cash yeah Crimmo's car used to be L24 auto so yeah was prolly his...I beleive that they are S13 struts that he has used in the nose of his car as well, don't quote me exactly on that (my memory is CRAP) but imm pretty sure bout that...He'll explain it when he's on next i guess..

:inlove:

haha yes i do remember sitting on it with it trying to break lose on the dyno good fun

josh very nice looking in not too bad condition for its age.

i just picked up a tower brace today $140 for a CUSCO hr30 brace in the same blue, was waiting for whiteline to make them but found this one instead!

problems - got it all wired up, she cranks, sounds like its about to kick over...then just keeps crankin

its got spark and fuel...timing perharps?

just about ready to set it on fire ...

i have this problem with my r31 every once and a while, theres a temp sensor linked to the injectors that plays up, it will shut the injectors off, no fuel flow at all, with my wiring there is a wire running from, ok you know where the radiator connects to the head at the top there are two sensors, now the one closest to the head has a wire running to some wires connecting to a plug at the fire wall where the wiper motor is! there are something like 8-10 wires running into it, different colours, do you have anything like this with your wiring?

Mike Cash yeah Crimmo lives on Glynburn road bro and his car used to be L24 auto so yeah was prolly his...I beleive that they are S13 struts that he has used in the nose of his car as well, don't quote me exactly on that (my memory is CRAP) but imm pretty sure bout that...He'll explain it when he's on next i guess..

cool. im up for a r30 cruise, that'll be wild, wipe some smiles off some HSV owners faces!

As I said I'll be down for a cruise just gotta get my little bit of damage fixed and front end back on. As would Tom, corey and Aids???? maybe mick if he buys it no doubt. We could get some decent numbers out with all decent cars. Show what old school skylines can do. A couple of weeks till my new clutch will be in. How long are others expecting to be off the road for? Shane not much longer now? crimmo?

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
