COILOVERS?????

You all want to modift to use S13.

Why not make up, do the mods to your own R30 struts (front) only need to find a machine shop that will machine off the existing spring seat. The thread kit & nuts can be bought through Wideline or Noltec direct for about $400.00. If doing it this way, you can cut down the strut case to suit R31 inserts, that are about 40mm shorter, therefore the damper piston stroke doesn't alter when lowering.

Rears can be made up using R31 rear shocks, they are 32mm shorter.

any easy way to replace a inner CV boot.

As far as I know, they are NON SERVICEABLE, But! the workshop manual says it is possible, so email me on [email protected] and I will scan and send you the pages concerning this procedure.

i went with the hybrid as i got it for $600+postage brand new, i read on the powerdigger site that the hybrid 600x300x75 intercooler had "0.5psi loss at up to 40psi" and can cool around 500hps' worth of air flow. hope that helps!! had the piping made from 2 1/2" press bend mild steel for $450 installed, all up about $1100 fitted..

matt did you get the super monster? when did you get it from at that price, and is it a 'genuine' hybrid? don't know if that makes a difference just interested to know.

hmm im quite interested in the R31 strut case thing, as my front is a lil too high compared to the rear even with lowered springs, not going full coilover, just swapping them.

yep.. bar, plate and fin super monster cooler "genuine hybrid" bought it about 8 months ago on e-bay for $600 as powerdigger is the offical surplier but wanted $800 for the 600x300x75mm cooler. ended up being a place here on the gold coast that were selling them...

']the S13 rear coilovers fit up all good except they are either 2 hole at the top at the back, whereas DR30 are 3. basically u have to drill an extra hole to line up the S13 coilovers at the top. pretty simple job though. just stick one thread in an existing hole, then drill a one that matches up on the other side. i havent done this to my car but todd with DR30 on these forums has, im sure he will pipe up soon to confirm what i just said :D

i mite be interested in a shirt depending on it's design and price i guess.

Just been studying a set of S13 coilovers.

Can't see how the fronts are anything like EASY conversion.

But rears look OK, but has anyone thought of changing the tops, swapping the stock R30 top for the S13, then NO DRILLING required.

Would this work???

i actually hadnt thought of the tops to be honest.

but the rest of it would be easy enough i guess anyway doing full coilovers. i mite do that one day altho i like my susp as it is now (tho the front could be a bit lower it sits pretty flat coz matched springs from japan so its okay really)

as far as the coolers go, i would agree with nowehre for $350. theres a few group buys on forums with them around 400-450 if u get in at the right time and are willing to wait in some cases, otherwise theyre all around $600 or so that i have found for 600x300x76 Core Size bar and plate coolers. Most i see for this price tho arent genuine hybrid stamped coolers, though it makes no difference apparently they come from the same place. i had a non-stamped big Hybrid in my last car (S13) and it was great, had no problems with it at all, just didnt have Hybrid on the top of it!

i got my one through the ModYourCar.com website. they were on special for $495 + postage. not sure how much they are regularly, i think around $550 but then u need $50 or so for postage, so you guys over east (coz MYC.com perth based) probly be around $600. *shrug* or find a group buy if u can !

edit: and i dont work for them or nuthin haha i just ordered one a couple of weeks back to go in the DR thats all, so i had a hunt around forums and websites for them. though i dont use EBay so i didnt check there. just this site i got mine from was the cheapest i could find at that time ignoring group buys!

just on that, theres a guy on SilviaWa.com forums under Shop, S1x Shop, trying to organize a group buy of coolers trhough modyourcar.com, if they get 10 or more people then its $450 each for the coolers.

if theres a few of u interested mite be worth it to get one to ur door for round $500 if enough pple join it *shrug*

to replace the CV boot you need press and it looks like a big job.the boot is torn from an exhaust thats fell off.

The CV on My R31 passage are getting noisey on a long drive.

probably get replacments from a wreck .Are R180 R30 driveshafts interchangeable with EARLY R200..I had a cone type idea that allowed you to slide a boot over without pulling the shaft apart, but cant find anyone with these at the moment.

I have R30 coils and R31 struts on my R31 passage[iRS],the 5 link struts are 25 mm+ longer bush to spring seat, than the IRS.hatch and sedan are also different.

R30 is my current work car.purchased for the tyres. It has more go than the bluebird and more room but it is no ser3.Got a 910 LD20T sitting in the shed, find some R30 LD28 bits and get it running.

I have been quoted under $450.00 for cooler with core size 700 x 270 x 65.

Is the thickness all that critical, compared to the front surface area, where the air gets to it.

I believe 600 x 270 would be the perfect size for R30's, as you wouldn't have to cut the guts out of your lower spoiler to accomodate it.

i got mine from a shop here in sa 750x300x60 for 750 with end tanks where ever i wanted them. i thought i was a good deal

    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
