After many months and much discussion we are getting very close to setting up and 'official' Skylines Australia Victorian club.

Basically - we have decided on a social club with a paid membership. This membership will get you 'stuff' (t-shirt, card etc) and access to member events. There will be more events, and many kinds of events arranged. Having an official club makes organisation that much easier.

For people who don't want to join, the forums will operate as they do now - with an unofficial events area for anyone to arrange goings-on (with some guidelines posted that must be adhered to).

Nothing is finalised yet. We are sorting out all the legal and tax details now. Then we will start taking paid members.

An FAQ document is available below that covers most of the common querstion. Please read it. If you have anything else to add - post it here, and I'll refine the document. Don't post a question until you have read the FAQ.

We will have a large 'open' meet within the next couple of weeks (the weekend of 11/12 Oct being the most likely) where everyone can meet everone and talk about stuff :)

As what I PM'd ya about.....what about the Vic members of the NSW club who what to transfer their membership over to SAU Vic? I joined the SAU NSW club because the Vic section wasn't up and running and obviously 'cause I live in vic my membership would be better used in Vic!!!

Ant: I'm afraid the different clubs are completely separate. You'd have to speak to NSW about a cancellation and membership refund.

Is a good question though. I'll speak to the NSW club people to see if we can work something out.

Sound alright but on the WHO CAN JOIN (FAQ)

Membership is open to anyone, provided they have been forum users for a minimum of 2-months and have been to at least 2 ‘open’ meets. For an initial membership intake, past SAU arranged meets are grounds for membership.

I've been with the forum for awhile but don't think i've been to at least 2 open meets so ....does that matter.?

Oh i've been to a Dyno Day once does that count?:shake:

Cobo: Where are you located? Having more 'country' cruises is something we'd like to do. Maybe we can come to you :D

I just had a read through the FAQ piece that was put together, very good. My quesiton to you is in regards to being "official". When we organise cruises are we all covered under insurance as a club? Me being a member from the r31club and SAU am asking as we had a couple of members ( I belive R31SkylineChick went, who is a moderator here) and for us to attend such events like track days etc.. we did have to register as a club with the VSMA which is like the Victorian car club registry or something like that.. Have you guys looked into the VSMA at all?

I live in the South Gippsland area, not far from Morwell/Traralgon.

Country cruises would be good, but I would imagine city/surburbia cruises would be more fun...? (haven't been on a cruise yet)

There's nowhere really exciting to cruise down here, except phillip island maybe? or around the bigger towns (tralagon)?

ahh, who knows. Let me know if one ever eventuates. :-)

Sly: In a word, no. It's a social club with 'official' members - no insurance, no liability. This is why we want people to be paid members - figure if you put $50 down, you aren't there to mess around.

We looked into forming an official club - and it's a really big deal. The biggest downside being the club 'committee' being personally liable if anything happens. And, quite rightly, no-one was willing to put their rump on the line... at least not at this stage anyway.

With the track-based events, each participant needs to join a CAMS affiliated club. NDSOC are a great club to join for this. Down the track (no pun intedned) it would be great for us to be able to offer this service (via VSMA affiliation), and I think that's a very reasonable option - but at this stage we just want to keep it simple. Mind you - if R31 club gets sorted through VSMA, that would be another option for SAU members who want to go on the track.

As it is at the moment, we need to be 'invited' to a track day like this - see Blind Elk's post as he is from the NDSOC.

So... no formal club formation, no official 'officials': just a better organised social club that asks you to pay a membership so you get a t-shirt :D

Cobo: A Gippsland cruise would be a great idea, espescially as the weather improves. Maybe to Cape Patterson or Inverloch/Wonthaggi would be nice.

We'll talk about both things at the meeting tomorrow - and try to arrange a Gippy visit soon :P

yeah I forgot about Inverloch, nice place. Never been to Cape Patterson though. I know the area a little bit, but wouldn't want to be the "guide" and get us lost! hah

I'll definately come along if people are willing to travel all the way down here. Might even get my cruise count above 0 and be able to join the club!

Even though your from the country, i wouldn't worry about that.

Cruises will be more spread out and going places SAU has never gone before :(

If you were a member and so-on, then you would be able to see the skid pan days etc, that you could come up for (if you felt like it)

Also other track style events that will be organised through other parties for SAU members.

You could even come up for the weekend and enter your car into MAS or other car shows that SAU will be frequenting.

There is a whole range of different things that will be on offer that is both car related...

And also non-car related things that we will do as a club, and a bunch of mates!

Greg here from country Vic, Numurkah (north of Shepparton), would like to meet and catch up with fellow owners, enthusiasts, but country living does make meeting the criteria for membership a bit harder. Maybe country membership? Just a couple of ideas, DECA at Shepparton are very obliging for unofficial club events, could be worth investigating. Also when I was a member of Benalla Auto Club (Winton) they had open practice days nearly every Friday open to anyone, normal safety gear required, don’t know if this has changed but maybe an option for a cruise and test day.

    • In the older stuff there were very significant differences 2wd to 4wd, for example Stagea had strut front end for 2wd and double wishbone for 4wd so it was not minor to swap. From poking around the 2wd v37, it *looks* like it might be more possible; some of the parts specifically have "2wd" stamped on them which suggests the platforms are more similar. You'd still want to start with a 4wd half cut to swap stuff from though. I'd suggest if you don't have a tune on the ECU you don't really need one on the trans either. Throttle mapping is in the ECU side (and you can always use a Roar Pedal if you want the throttle to actually respond to your foot), and really if you are happy with the stock power you probably accept the stock trans behaviour too....its all made to be "sporty" not racey.
    • So, updates. I have not washed the car since it came back from Tassie. I've driven it around a bit but not got around to actually sorting it out. I DID raise it because I cracked the rear bar leaving a hotel which was very distressing. Interestingly, the car drives more compliant now that it's raised a fair bit (5mm front, 15mm rear). Also noticed that my FR height was 10mm lower than FL. So that's now sorted out, too. So I'm going with "it'll be fine" after using the tool to hopefully very precisely measure the wheel clearance. Also while doing this, I had the very VERY bad idea of jacking one of the wheels/suspension arms up while the rest of the car was on jack stands. I did this to see how the arm would travel. This all was well and good until the car slid off the stands and went through a fence. So don't do that. Incredibly nobody was hurt and there was only minor damage to the rear bumper as the car didn't have far to slide, and had 3-4 wheels on it. The only damage turned out to be the fence itself which was easy to fix, and a little bit of damage to the fibreglass rear bumper trim. I had already planned to try a touch up paint kit to fix the time I drove into my garage door to see if it'd help in the interim before I get it fixed properly. I used the Dr Colorchip kit after looking online and seeing everyone talking about it. Yes it's made for chips and not huge broken missing pieces and I'll be 500% recommending it for stone chips after using it for stupid things like me. This took about ... 10 minutes and looking at the half assed photo the 30 second job I did on the bumper corner was almost perfect just by using the tiny little brush and painting it in. The sealact stuff to remove over-painting is really useful, so if/when I do it again I'll likely slather the touch up paint well over it and then clean it up with the cleaning solution. The wheels should arrive in a couple of weeks. I am still kinda confident after doing a stupid amount of measuring (and borrowing a set of 18x10.5+15) that they will not fit because I overlooked something, somehow and flew too close to the sun. ALSO R34 GTR guard liners do not fit on a GTT. I bought the undertray brake duct guides and had the wonderful problem of them not fitting my intake, my oil cooler and the liners themselves were even worse. Attempting to fit them won't work in general - You would have to cut them up as another poster mentioned as the bodywork is different on the GTT. At least I can try to resell them. So instead of cutting those up, I cut up my old already-cut-up GTT liners and extended them by using some PP plastic and drilling some 8mm holes for some nissan clips for the 'extra' bit. Because I was happy to cut them I was able to mount them pretty damn forward so I now have some semblance of guard liners, and the brake vents seal the bumper from the bottom. It sort-of-looks like this, to give some idea - If you look at the GTR and then the GTT this is when I realised that I needed to seriously measure as the inside of the rim area is entirely, entirely, entirely different and could not take any internet measurements for granted.   
    • If you are Ecutek tuned then these TCU tunes are anywhere from $550 to $700 usd. If you are not ECUTEK tuned, then it gets costly!    
    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
