So the list for things i love about my stag is massive, i do however have a small list of things id like to improve apon... im sure you know what im talking about haha

1 thing i want to improve is the sharpness i suppose u would call it is the tiller, the response of the wheel isn't bad its just... cooshy i suppose u could call it. The ride is firm and the body roll isn't bad due to the coil overs so in that regards i don't think i need a change (at least i hope so). I am no mechanic as you have probably guessed by now haha but i hear talk n shit about control arms, sway bars, bushings etc but really unsure what to look for or what changes i should make without wasting my time.

Any suggestions would be helpful... thanks in advance

i know someone who sets this shit up for a living, who suggested chasing some t-valve or something in the powersteering... that will make it sharper and more feel around the middle, and more +ive castor will help!

so

t-valve

positive castor

nice new bushes

1. +castor is your friend.

so a nice set of adjustable radius rods preferably with polyurethane bushes (to keep NVH down). move the guard in front of the wheel as far forward as you can (if you are going for broke) and then wind on as much +ve castor as you can get.

2. you already have relatively beefed up swaybars vs RS4 stagea so you will a lesser improvement compared to most others with an upgrade here.

Yeah positive castor makes a big difference as mentioned.

Also consider your wheel alignment, most cars are designed for passive understeer by the wheel alignment.

Consider postive castor, and neautral toe to toe out will increase turn in, but will cause the car to follow the camber of the road more.

Adjustable sway bars to for sure.

Nolathane do adjustable castor rod bushes, what im doing is going some ISC adjustable castor rods and an agressive wheel alignment.

I thought rear toe in helped turn in grip and toe out for slidey?

solid steering rack spacer will increase the directness of your steering

and will put the column thru your chest :P

had a chat to paul on msn and pointed him in the direction of some gurus, so hopefully he gets it sorted!

I meant the front toe.

But yes rear toe again can help, but depends whethere HICAS is there or not, being a 260RS it will have it fitted, whether he has a cancellor rod or not he never mentioned.

And yes rear toe in helps stability and turn in, and toe out makes the car more slidey.

yay for brain farts :D

Slight thread hijack....I'm also after the same thing as mentioned in the first post. I have SK's complete suspension kit and have adjustable bushes in the front and rear as well as in the castor rods. But ever since I've owned the car (with the stock suspension) I've always had alignment issues. So while the topic is on castor rods what are the options to go full adjustable on everything, casotr rods, front and rear control arms, tie rods etc....basically adjustable bushes aren't cutting it for me so I'd rather go for complete adjustable items. I"m also assuming replacing all these components with adjustable ones and throwing in a new set of steering rack bushes and steering rack spacers would really improve things steering and handling wise. The car handles much better than it did but the alignment and lack of steering response and feel let it down. I think the pwr steering could do with less assistance really, I'm guessing thats why valving was mentioned, is it possible to change the valving or something? Would all R33 items fit?

Just an fyi, came across this link in another forum when doing google searches.

Has quiet a few pdf's on steering geometry for our vehicles.

Not sure if it's all correct/original specs, but cant see why not.

justjap do arm combos...

I got a second hand pair of Cusco adjustable castor arms for $125 - less than the cost of the bushes I got last time and now with unlimited adjustment ( went for 6deg left and 5.75 deg rt) and a set of rear adjustable camber arms for $130 (they vary new from $130 locally made to $250 Cusco type).

Hi there, kinda old post I know but have you been through this thread end to end, heaps of good info in here if you take the time to pick through it all but in particular: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/St....html&st=20

Anyway, I put SK's full monty (but with Eibach coil springs-not Whiteline) on my 260 even though it was pretty good in the first place apart from chewing out rear tyres, goes real good now. I fitted Whiteline solid adjustable swaybars front & rear, (original bars were fixed position solid front/hollow rear) set to medium stiff, middle hole - points good in corners.

Ref castor & quote SK "you can never have enough caster" but at the end of the day there will come a point when you load up the steering system to the point where power steering components are loaded to a seriously shortened life. I have aimed for the settings in this post (http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Stagea-Suspension-t53079.html&st=20) & have no problems to date. I did this upgrade about 2 years ago now. Actually it was the first thing I did ~ to improve rear tyre life was the official reason.

My 2c

Cheers GW

I would like the steering response to be like that of my R32.. I'm unsure as to whether it is purely electronically controlled or would requiring different valving parts though.

Back from the dead!!

Can anyone tell me if the 260RS steering rack is the R33 gtr rack (in which case I can use the R33 nismo steering rack bushings) or the C34 rack (in which case I have to look elsewhere)?

Thanks!!

For anyone who cares/searches for this down the line, it appears that the part numbers are the same for the steering rack bushings/insulators between the R32 GTR, R33 GTR, and 260RS.

I ordered a set of R33 GTR Nismo stiffened steering bushes for my Stagea 260RS (2000/S2) and will let you know if they fit!

    • I'm looking for some real world experiences/feed back from anyone who has personally ran a EFR7670 with a 1.05 exhaust housing or a .83 I'm leaning towards the .83 because its a street car used mostly for spirited driving in the canyons roads. I"m not looking for big numbers on paper. I want a responsive powerband that will be very linear to 8000 rpm. I dont mind if power remains somewhat flat but dont want power to drop off on top. The turbo I've purchased is a 1.05, although the mounting flange T3 vs T4 and internal vs external waste gates are different on both housings, I not concern about swapping parts or making fabrication mods to get what I want. Based on some of the research I've done with chat gpt, the 1.05 housing seems to be the way to go with slightly more lag and future proofing for more mods but recommends .83 for best response/street car setup. AI doesn't have the same emotions as real people driving a GTR so I think you guys will be able to give me better feed back 😀
    • Surely somebody has one in VIC. Have you asked at any shops?  Is this the yearly inspection or did you get a canary?
    • This is where I share pain with you, @Duncan. The move to change so many cooling system pieces to plastic is a killer! Plastic end tanks and a few plastic hose flanges on my car's fail after so little time.  Curious about the need for a bigger rad, is that just for long sessions in the summer or because the car generally needs more cooling?
    • So, that is it! It is a pretty expensive process with the ATF costing 50-100 per 5 litres, and a mechanic will probably charge plenty because they don't want to do it. Still, considering how dirty my fluid was at 120,000klm I think it would be worth doing more like every 80,000 to keep the trans happy, they are very expensive to replace. The job is not that hard if you have the specialist tools so you can save a bit of money and do it yourself!
    • OK, onto filling. So I don't really have any pics, but will describe the process as best I can. The USDM workshop manual also covers it from TM-285 onwards. First, make sure the drain plug (17mm) is snug. Not too tight yet because it is coming off again. Note it does have a copper washer that you could replace or anneal (heat up with a blow torch) to seal nicely. Remove the fill plug, which has an inhex (I think it was 6mm but didn't check). Then, screw in the fill fitting, making sure it has a suitable o-ring (mine came without but I think it is meant to be supplied). It is important that you only screw it in hand tight. I didn't get a good pic of it, but the fill plug leads to a tube about 70mm long inside the transmission. This sets the factory level for fluid in the trans (above the join line for the pan!) and will take about 3l to fill. You then need to connect your fluid pump to the fitting via a hose, and pump in whatever amount of fluid you removed (maybe 3 litres, in my case 7 litres). If you put in more than 3l, it will spill out when you remove the fitting, so do quickly and with a drain pan underneath. Once you have pumped in the required amount of clean ATF, you start the engine and run it for 3 minutes to let the fluid circulate. Don't run it longer and if possible check the fluid temp is under 40oC (Ecutek shows Auto Trans Fluid temp now, or you could use an infrared temp gun on the bottom of the pan). The manual stresses the bit about fluid temperature because it expands when hot an might result in an underfil. So from here, the factory manual says to do the "spill and fill" again, and I did. That is, put an oil pan under the drain plug and undo it with a 17mm spanner, then watch your expensive fluid fall back out again, you should get about 3 litres.  Then, put the drain plug back in, pump 3 litres back in through the fill plug with the fitting and pump, disconnect the fill fitting and replace the fill plug, start the car and run for another 3 minutes (making sure the temp is still under 40oC). The manual then asks for a 3rd "spill and fill" just like above. I also did that and so had put 13l in by now.  This time they want you to keep the engine running and run the transmission through R and D (I hope the wheels are still off the ground!) for a while, and allow the trans temp to get to 40oC, then engine off. Finally, back under the car and undo the fill plug to let the overfill drain out; it will stop running when fluid is at the top of the levelling tube. According to the factory, that is job done! Post that, I reconnected the fill fitting and pumped in an extra 0.5l. AMS says 1.5l overfill is safe, but I started with less to see how it goes, I will add another 1.0 litres later if I'm still not happy with the hot shifts.
