Does Australia Have The Largest Amount Of Skylines Outside Of Japan?

Was wondering this today.

Surely Australia must have the most amount of Skylines out of any country other than Japan? It's hard not to go an hour or two without seeing one driving around, and there must be thousands on the roads these days.

With the aversion to older cars on the Japanese roads, is it possible Australia has the most amount of road-registered skylines driving around in the entire world?

Food for thought!

yes.

according to the RAWS books from 2008 Australia complied roughly 36 skylines a month. that's a new skyline on the street a day... kinda. That's not including 15yr bombs, the 100 R32's sold locally, private imports and race imports.

It'd be interesting to see how many are still driving around Japan. I mean they really don't like older cars so much, i could see them culling off a lot of the r32 gts-t's and such.

the UK love their skylines too and I think are the only ones apart from Australia that got 'factory' delivered GTR's. I would think they would have quite a few road registered ones running around.

Given the relative rarity of the skylines it would be interesting to see which countries have what numbers.

After being in the UK for a few years where you'd see 1 a week its a bit different being back here where there are several a day on streets I drive. Our Skyline scene is large, I tell thee

Admittedly we have the older Oz 30's & 31's but the UK also has several times the number of cars for sale

well could be possible

the car market in USA is alot larger than it is in australia. i wouldnt be suprised if they have more....

remember.......australia only has 21,000,000 in population. compared to USA's 320,000,000.

another country that has a high number of imports is New Zealand...

apparently they never had the SEVS rule... where you could openly import any type of vehicle....even if there are local models.....

which in turn i recall, financially damaging their own economy and domestic car market.

The US will end up with more 35's. As far as the older models go definitely not. Motorex imported and was responsible for compliance of 32s, 33s and some 34s with the US DOT. The whole venture imploded with beatings, stolen cars and uncomplied vehicles on the streets...would probably make a good movie

Don't think they were that easy to import in the US, so don't think too many made it there. As above, the guys that were doing it were crims.

NZ would have had quite a few, but at the end of the day, their population is only about 1/5 of the size of us, and they also were able to import a lot of other cars too.

well im not sure about USA... just because you dont see things over there, doesnt mean there isnt any.

but apparently Skylines are hard to Comply in Canada, so im pretty sure there arent as many.

well i dont think its a advantage of us having the most.....too common loses its appeal.

Easier to get parts. In a way.

Heck, if it is true that Australia has the largest amount of gts-t's in the world, then its going to be the easiest place in the world to get aftermarket replacement parts.

thats where your wrong......

think about who created the car first...........or where it was originated......

it certainly wasnt made by Holden or Ford...

either way, the part was never manufactured here.......it was imported by frieght

NZ has a cutoff on the age of the car you can import though, think it was 10 years. Also they have no domestic car market... hence the free for all import laws. Lots of small nations without national manufacturers are similar (eg: Sri Lanka, Singapore, Cyprus, Hong Kong etc).

think about who created the car first...........or where it was originated......

it certainly wasnt made by Holden or Ford...

what i meant by domestic market is the Local Dealerships.like Honda, Toyota, Nissan etc....

where people could buy imports of the same models for heaps cheaper.

so SEVS rule does have its advatages

Not too sure ab out facts and figures, but I think your comment is valid as there are so many Skylines. I do not go a day without at least seeing one somewhere each day if not more.

Therefore it is really hard to make your car look different. I really praise those that have.

      Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention

      So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small.       From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
