Spraying the turbo with WD40 will do nothing to help the situation.

Here is a potential cause.

Having a series 2 your turbo has a bakerlight compressor wheel, a very hard plastic and this could be scuffing on the housing making a squeek or high pitch squeel.

It happens because the shaft wears out and usually there is forward/backward movement in the shaft causing it to push forward on the housing or backward on the backing plate.

It will eventually explode and throw bits of plastic all through your intake soon if the noise is in fact coming from the turbo.

Or you could have a bird in there that is opposed to greater boost pressures.

Kind of like a Nissan Nazi Budgie.

listen to this guy - he knows ALOT about failed turbos.

also try pressurising the cooler piping to see if there are any cracks in your silicon piping. your mechanic should know how.

Could you see damage/marks on the compressor cover side? Or wheels slightly rubbed?

If not, then that's probably not it.

Being you said you had an exhaust leak, my bet is that what it was. Early stages of a leak are a squeak and eventually it becomes worse

+1

This is exactly right.

Give the leak a quick spray of WD40 and it should clear up over night

I sprayed about 0.00007 cents into it. Just the fro nt wheel, then wiped the remains away when it went to the bottom. Meh, im more annoyed that one of the studs came out of the manifold.

To save me the run around and because i need my car for work asap due to my boss not wanting to pick me up everyday, where can i get a new stud and nut?

Cheers

dirty dirty mind...

try nissan man, I got new wheels studs from nissan and they were fairly reasonabley priced.

Mmmm vagina is nice.

Anyway im proud of myself, i know you all laughed because you thought i was trying to fix my turbo with wd40. Im not a mechanic yet i diagnosed the problem, which was in fact the gasket, i fixed it and at the same time sprayed wd40 on the turbo wheel. How i have a quieter turbo and no more exhaust leak.

Now i just need the manifold stud.

Thanks for the info on vagina stories too.

LOL is all I can say.

had the same problem, I'm betting it will be exh manifold gasket, possibly missing a chunk like mine was, and you're either on too many or not enough drugs if you think WD40 will in any way fix it. Just chin up and go and get a Nissan one (they sell the bolts too, though mine is missing one, and dosen't leak.)

It won't break anything to drive it like that btw, it will just sound gay.

And the vagina is always in the front passenger seat :D

    • I hadn't thought about the variable power steering assist. Presumably, it will always be the same level of assist as you get in an S14. The R32/3/4 are either helliishly heavy (at low speeds) if the solenoid is not powered at all, or hellishly too light (at high speed) if it is powered all the time. I presume that it is PWM controlled on those cars. I hadn't thought about the S cars not having variable assist. ugh. What crappy plebby cars they must be!
    • Hmm yeah that is a good point. It looks like it'll just bolt in with no real issue besides maybe the bushings being different. My other concern was that 2 pin plug that I assume is used in some way to control the rack solenoid depending on the speed signal from the ecu. The DMAX rack doesn't even have that plug though so, don't think it'll matter. Might just order the rack and see how it goes. Will update this when I figure something out
    • I'd say it's a fair bet that the feed and return fluid lines will be in different enough spots that you would need to come up with a way to cut the originals short and adapt with new hard line adaption or braided teflon hoses or somesuch. But really, you have the car, you have the photos of the DMAX rack - you should be able to go out there and see for yourself whether they're in the same or different spots.
    • I've been doing some looking around and honestly was just considering throwing a new rack at it. I saw that the dmax silvia rack bolts up into the 33 with the silvia bushings but not sure if the high pressure lines will sit in the correct spot. I believe other version of the 33 rack are the same/similar to the racks that can be opened up without as much fuss so I assume the dmax rack would fit but any ideas?
    • I've never played with one, but I would expect that you are correct. That slot looks like it is intended to be used to unscrew the end, and the flats on the body would be better than grabbing it around the round bit with a pipe wrench. So, yeah, probably unscrews. You'll probably have to make a tool to drive in that slot.
