and I was on the way up to the petrol station. was on the road, going 50km/h, braked down to 30, entered roundabout, got halfway through, let go of accelerator, turned to go around and started to lose the back end, corrected twice and was back on the road. OMG HEARTATTACK.

apart from my driving errors, what should i look at to fix the traction problems? tyres obviously, hicas maybe? the thing should be serviced anyway at this point.

I have that happen in my R31, my R32 and my '85 Corolla. Its due to things that are more likely to make ur car drift.

Hard suspension is more likely to cause ur car to slide in the wet. Narrow or old brittle tyres will cause it to slip. Going into a round about to quick is enough, coz a quick left-right turn can cause it to slide. If the LSD is too tight it might lock too quick, and drift.

Be very careful in the wet dude. Its a death trap in the wet...

Yeah, was out driving in my R32 today. On paper, I should have been fine, billsteins, falkens, 4wd.

BUT even accelerating from stationary going right at about 30kmh i was getting all 4 wheels sliding... Greasy road's are deadly =\

when it hasn't rain in ages there is alot of oil built up on the road. so the road condition are generally poor.

It's not a traction problem, its driver error. Watch out for weight shifting, compression lock etc

I love the wet in the R...not too much correction required until...:) Got to watch the greasy roads in Perth, as Michael said we get a lot of oil build up

be careful overtaking in auto as well. when mine was auto i went to overtake a bus in the wet and it kicked back on me and you recon you had a heart attack. sideways pass a bus on the opposite side of the road = not good :)

nothing wrong with the car but driver error and if you can't correct that it's time to sell and buy a treddly

i've got a 31 with plenty of power, went for a bit of a drive today and had absolutely no issues with traction as i drove within the limits of myself, my car, and the roads.

Might pay to invest in a performance driving course at AHG. Just helps to get to know your car better and how to handle it in situations like these.

Could of just come on boost at an inconvienent time or there might of been oil on the road.

r34 are heavy the back end will come out no matter what in the wet just need to be careful

if it's heavy in the rear as you say it is harder to come out less weight makes the rear come out easy

My GQ wagon did same for first rain in a long time . 3rd gear doing 20ks and 1500rpm on roundabout n it kicks out ..first rains alway slippery shit i even came off my pushbike at lights yrs ago . Thank the oil n diesel leaking shit boxs of the world :D

Western Australian roads in the rain are dodgy as! I took my 33 out in the rain for the 1st time yesterday and it"ll kick out in 4th under boost in the rain! (with 275/30/19s!)

made the trip back from margaret river interesting haha.

anyway yea probably pay to take it easy in the rain till you build confidence. noone was born a good driver bro it just takes time behind the wheel :D

Seriously if you think that getting sideways in fourth on a wet road is testament to you driving ability you need to think again.

Things to avoid are:

1. Driving like a dickhead.

2. Bragging about it on an internet forum.

This thread has made me see why people hate us in skylines... come on guys use common sense.

If your at the front of the lights there will be oil in the wheel lines (road indented).

try this:

1. move the car to the left or right of the lane to get off the oil.

2. park back a little from the lights so not to be right in it for your back tyres.

3. just nudge the car until the back wheels pass the white line and then give some gas.

o and obvious one is get better tyres or a problem i see a lot get your camber fixed so your whole tyre has contact with the road.

    • I gotta pull you up on this. It's driving me crazy. A shutter is something that closes, like over a window or in a cmera. The word you want is shudder. That LSD is clearly f**ked. Take it to a diff shop and get it disassembled and examined by an expert. YOu might have plates welded together or something equally crazy.
    • Define "starting to fail". Wy not just rebuild them?
    • Check the Nistune doco. There are a few assumptions being made here that might not be valid. I will list the things that occur to me: Base map. Base map for what? Base map for Z32? Then the cranking pulse width is probably wrong for an RB25. The extra 500cc of capacity might well be enough to prevent it from catching. Base map for RB25? I don't think you can load one of those into a Z32. You have to just make the settings correct for an RB25 in the Z32 base map. That is either K or the TIM to get the pulsewidth right. Loom. You bought a loom for an RB. And you plugged it into a Z32 ECU. Did you make sure that any iwre differences were swapped. From memory, there's at least a couple. And as per the others, I would suggest making sure that the fuel pressure is correct while cranking and that the injectors are actually flowing as expected. They really must come out and go on the bench, unless you do find that you have messed up as per above points. I would also suggest watching in Nistune to make sure that everything is reading correctly. That the correct binary flags are raised at the right time (like the crank signal), that there's no stupid values in K or TIM. That you have not got mismatched firmware for the ECU and/or a wrong image loaded.
