Hey guys. Back on the forum after computer crashed. Atleast it wasn't the Stag...

Have been driving the m35 stock now( apart from a resonator replacing that dodgy "box" in the middle) and am a little bored with the acceleration already. I was hoping some of you who know your stuff could give me solid advice on what mods to get done with good bang for buck. I have read elsewhere that a 3 inch exhaust is a good idea to keep the turbo from dying. Does it give you big performance gains? What sort of money would you be looking at? I can do jack all myself, so would be paying the grease monkeys for all mods!

I am in Brisbane, where are the best people to go to for bringing the dormant vq25det to life???

P.S. Still keen to do a mount Tambourine run if there are enough people keen with Stags in the area. Went up with family last weekend and the car just ate up the windy road. Gotta love the ATTESSA handling!!!

Depends what you want from your car but everyone will agree: get a complete three inch exhaust system from turbo back. If I were starting from scratch now i would get a Vipec next - you will get good performance gains and then every mod thereafter you could tune the engine to safely get the maximum benefit e.g. it would soon tell you if your fuel supply was inadequate.

Read a few (or all of the) pages in this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/St...lts-t52540.html concentrating on the ones with actual dyno charts and see what really works and how much power you can realistically expect as opposed to optomistic claims. You will learn a lot...I did.

Turbo or dump back 3" exhaust

No question. Get rid of as much back pressure from your turbo as possible.

Will give you more power and will save you from an early turbo rebuild.

Was just about to post up a new thread about designing my custom exhaust. I have the option of removing all the cats etc so it will be complete 3" straight thru off the turbo. Maybe a middle muffler or a couple of rez then a 3" straight thru oval (stock looking) muffler. Plan to keep the system stealth.

One question is would there be any issues with the ceramic turbo the M35 has? I think I read it was a ball bearing type so should spin fine at a greater speed with the lack of back pressure? The reason I ask this is the guy building the system mentioned about the earlier Skyline's having ceramic turbo's and they would sometimes be splat out the back of the exhaust with extra boost (over spinning them)? I think people on here have said the boost gets up to 15psi with a 3" cat back system?

Cheers.

I would probably have a cat somewhere in there. You never know when you can get pulled over and an EPA test requested... although you aren't in Vic are you...

Don't know about "overspinning" the OE turbo. I push 15psi or so, but have had mine rebuilt so no more ceramic (too much back pressure destroyed the ceramic exhaust wheel).

Best person to ask would probably by Jetwreck as he had his 3" exhaust with the stock turbo. I swear I recall him saying that it was peaking ~15psi anyway... same as stock.

Although it has let go since then and required a rebuild.

I'm in New Zealand so not a problem at the moment with the cats. I'll see how I go with the setup of no cats, just depends if it's a problem getting the stock dump pipe off.

Thanks.

I guess you have it a bit easier over there with mods, huh?

Stock pipe shouldn't be a problem, have a look at this thread for a dump replacement.

They do tests for noise, will make sure it isn't too loud.

Right I'll stop hijacking Clowndog's thread :) .

Lol. Thanks man. Appreciate the advice guys. Looks like a 3 inch exhaust is the way to go. Hopefully I won't have to fork out too much for one. Easy argument to convince the wife tho if it's gonna prolong the turbo's life.

Any body in Brisbane that can recommend the best pros to do the job, and a ballpark figure of the cost??

P.S. I have read on some sites from exhaust guys them selves that rwkw's were going up about 20-30 kw's on the 25rbts! Would be awesome if i could even get tha much more at the flywheel. I'm sure the tock 206kw figure can be very easily increased. Surely is al that jap emmission shit combined with their funny manufacturung rules that dictate that figure.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
