Hey all. Can someone please tell me what fluid i am best to put in my attessa system? I checked the reservoir on the weekend and its on the minimum line so i thought i better do something about it as the workshop that services my car havent checked it. Also do i have to bleed the whole system or can i just top it up? Any help is appreciated

Cheers Brad

if it was me i would drain the lot, prob original nissan fluid in there. Recommended fluid is any Nissan matic-D ATF fluid, such as Transmax Z or Nissans own. But i am sure many people just use a Dexron III ATF fluid, although I wouldnt. once you have filled it, idle the car, check reservoir level, top up, connect clear hose to bleed nipple and release any air bubbles, again whilst it is running.

and dont forget that there are 2 bleed points (in the C34 - NFI about the M35) one at the pump above the rear diff and another at the actuator at the back of the transfer case.

ive got a 97 rs4 and the oil in the back hatch area is seperate from the oil for the transfer case. the oil from the hatch area activates a piston type setup which engages the awd. the transfer case at the end of the gearbox has a drain and filler plug in them. thats where the gearbox puts power to the front driveshaft. the oil from the hatch area was fine on mine and the transfer case oil was all burnt and black. that caused a shudder when the awd was under load. for the transfer case i used castrol transmatic z. for the hatch area i am unsure what oil to use. all i know is that it is very thin.

Yes the transfer case has its own oil supply but the nipple right at the end of the gear box extension near the hose that goes to the attessa on top of the diff is for the Atessa not for the transfer case oil. Filling is via the reservoir in the boot and both bleed nipples are for the Atessa. The fluid for the Atessa is officially Nissan's specially expensive power steering fluid but i use a semi-synthetic automatic transmission fluid. So you can go to Nissan or use any good quality atf.

I have a shudder in my car under load. Im wondering if its the same thing. Not so much a shudder but a vibration in the rear at full boost. sounds like a good weekend job

    • That looks good, but I think you're going to need much beefier side skirts now.
    • They are daft and there's a reason it never caught on. Steering feel? We don't need no stinking steering feel!
    • I gotta pull you up on this. It's driving me crazy. A shutter is something that closes, like over a window or in a cmera. The word you want is shudder. That LSD is clearly f**ked. Take it to a diff shop and get it disassembled and examined by an expert. YOu might have plates welded together or something equally crazy.
    • Define "starting to fail". Wy not just rebuild them?
    • Check the Nistune doco. There are a few assumptions being made here that might not be valid. I will list the things that occur to me: Base map. Base map for what? Base map for Z32? Then the cranking pulse width is probably wrong for an RB25. The extra 500cc of capacity might well be enough to prevent it from catching. Base map for RB25? I don't think you can load one of those into a Z32. You have to just make the settings correct for an RB25 in the Z32 base map. That is either K or the TIM to get the pulsewidth right. Loom. You bought a loom for an RB. And you plugged it into a Z32 ECU. Did you make sure that any iwre differences were swapped. From memory, there's at least a couple. And as per the others, I would suggest making sure that the fuel pressure is correct while cranking and that the injectors are actually flowing as expected. They really must come out and go on the bench, unless you do find that you have messed up as per above points. I would also suggest watching in Nistune to make sure that everything is reading correctly. That the correct binary flags are raised at the right time (like the crank signal), that there's no stupid values in K or TIM. That you have not got mismatched firmware for the ECU and/or a wrong image loaded.
