Hi guys,

Ok here is the problem, a couple of weeks ago i noticed when turning left or right, smtimes even when braking, and esp acceleration the speakers started cutting out, like all sound went to the Right smtimes to Left speaker then came back to normal....Now thou, it is permanantly stuck on the righ side....i tried changing the balance but when i change to full on left speaker there is hardly any sound.

Anyone have any ideas on this?...or could identify any key areas where the problem might be...the speaker connections or the headunit connections?

oh and just like to clarify that my Headunit is perfectly fine, like nothing wrong with CD changer or anything.

clarify this fault - it happens when, under what rules, what source? radio and CD or CD only.

if so then it looks like you DO have a CD issue. it will drop an ENTIRE side. if you are losing it under both sources then the problem is still in the radio just in a different spot.

autosparky wont have a clue. unless you have the radio service manual ( I do) then you wont get a lot of help.

Chris,

ok, well NOW it happens continuously, i.e its been like this for days ( the sound being stuck on the right side speakers. )

...and reading your post i went out and checked, it only happens in CD mode, in RADIO mode it is fine...so CD ONLY.

hope it clarifies it.

it does. I have a car in the workshop now with the same issue. I have to tear it down on monday and the 'fault' lies in the CD section (where it runs through 4 different paths.)

I can fix it anyway. looks like a good time to roll out the reworked/retuned radios that I have here.

can you play your CDs in your DVD player?

If so... I have just fixed your car.

Check or money order will do fine :)

umm, i dont have the option with the screen, so i only have the CD player.

umm ok, so this is definitely not a job in which you can tell me to "try this" and then 'try that' and it 'should be all good?'...because your in brisbane and im in sydney?....and what do u mean its a good time to roll out the radios?

nope - its all internal to the radio. I have a fellow that sent me one via reg post ( Hi Hillbilly) with the same issue. I'l going to do a service on that one whilst I have it.

in saying that I should probably knock up a chargeable jig (that way I get it back) so you have A/C and no radio.

if you want to pull the radio and send it to me (RADIO ONLY- NO PANEL!! ) I'll fix it for you.)

as for my comment I've been quietly working on 'new' radios for these both bose and non bose versions that tune correctly and display correctly - only issue is price as I literally rebuild the stacker at the same time. ( they are roughly a $750-800 radio.). these are the original radios recal'd and reworked.

Yep, have the same problem. Haven't fixed it yet, but it seems the cheapest solution is to work around it, with an Ipod adapter.

See post below:

thanks prdreilly, but i have a question, can you do the ipod connector thing on a NON-bose system?...i rmbr chris putting up a DIY for connecting an ipod...or was that on g35driver....but yeh can you?

bit of interesting info and I'm going to need chassis numbers to confirm.

the car have here has a PN2613E in it. those have an ENTIRELY different CD mech in them. this is in a may 2004 coupe.

the 2413/14 twins (bose/nonbose) have the same issue but its in a different spot. this one looks like a component issue.

those with the above problem can I grab chassis numbers please. that will tell me if yours is fixable or not.

Hi Chris,

Hi Chris,

My VIN is CPV35-508342.

I'm inclined to go for the IPOD option for cost reasons, but out of interest am happy for you to forward a quote.

Hi chris,

here is my Vin number : CVP35507357

could you also quote me on fixing the radio when sent to you?...and im also interested about that refurbished radio you are working on, just to clarify when you meant everything is displayed correctly does that also mean there is no need for the FM modulator anymore?

Hey Chris,

I haven't been using my Ipod for a while and this week when I started playing it in the car I noticed sound was only coming out of the right speakers. No sound from Left. Switched it back to CD and MD and its fine, both speakers work. Could it be a loose wiring caused when u pulled my center console apart few weeks back? This is in the blue car.

ok this is more FYI than anything else.

the issue seems to be with the PN2613/14 twins (13 being non bose.). unlike the 2413/14 versions (2001-2003) this thing is ENTIRELY different. that said if there is a CD mech issue in the 2613/14 - its a LOT easier to fix than the otehr one.

2413/14 - its a radio issue and not a CD one.

the dropped audio fault lies in the CD mech itself and requires a total strip of it. there are 4 boards in there and 3 places that the audio routes. on one there is usually a dry joint- its NOT a job for the beginner and unless you have a service manual I STRONGLY sugggest NOT attempting it.

    • Is the panel filter one that is oiled? Have you ever cleaned or touched the AFM?
    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
