180sx at Carnell Raceway, taken with a panasonic DMC-FT1

nice aleks! Carnell is such a fun little track

here's an in-car vid from my 180 at Lakeside yesterday. Another 4 tenths off the PB with some setup changes and cooler conditions. The standard viscous LSD really isn't up the the job! but even so i don't really think I should be getting this much wheelspin with 240 wide rear slicks. Last time out, and the first time I used the slicks, I had so much traction it was boring - may as well have been driving an Evo :) But not anymore. Think they may not like the constant heat cycling? They seem to be taking longer to come up to temp too, but it was a much cooler day... Anyway, here it is. Lap 3 is a 58.9 :P

I went to Wakefield Park on Monday and after taking me an hour to start my little car (-4c on the trip down froze the poor little bugger) I eventually managed a new pb of 1:12.7 down from 1:14.4 with tyres that have seen 4 trackdays.

It was my first time using the PerformanceBox GPS laptimer and datalogger which was a massive help. Knowing your split and laptimes as you go is really good information.

I've done a speed comparison on my best and second best times of the day and their is no more than 3km/h difference at any point in the entire lap. The difference between my 12.7 and driver trainers 12.0 is no more than 6km/h however I did have better mid corner speed in some corners than him but he tended to brake earlier and get on the power earlier out of the corners.

Here is a video of my fastest lap of the day:

I haven't got the TrackVision software working yet but my top speed on the straight was only 160.9km/h :D I really need to work on turning in later on the last corner and deeper under brakes on the first corner.

Here is a picture of my lines for this lap based off the gps co-ordinates:

Have you had a look at the lines the trainer used when running your car around? Any significant differences?

nice meeting you out there too.

my previous best in NA 120ish rwkw form was a 1:09.8

as run in the vids, maybe 260ish (only running 1 bar) and first time at wakefield with turbo 1:07.7's.

to be fair, the 1:09 was done on pretty old r888's, the above vids were on new re55's

There's more in it

LOL, just curious to know what difference power made to the lap times. I am always on the prowl for a good R32 or S13 Silvia as the basis of a build up...but being OS means it has to really be a good buy to throw into storage for when i get back. My dirty2 is not getting any more mods after the RB24. Nex car is going to be so stripped it will resemble something from Mad Max 2 :)

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.
    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts
    • Bunnings would have just handed you your money back on that one!
    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
