Hey all,

Have a 1997 R33 GTR, making 239 RWKW with standard computer. Am quite happy with that for the moment and want to keep the factory computer for a while. Unfortunately was hitting the speed limiter half way down the straights at Sandown.

Anyone know how or who can cheaply remove 180km speed limiter in r33 GTR while retaining the factory computer????

Cheers,

Luke.

ok have you ever taken a look at the computer? its at the passanger side

ive never tried this myself...since ive never owned an R33....

but apparently there is a wire to the Computer labelled No#53...

cutting this wire....taping it up would disable the speed restrictor....

cutting any of the wires...you could always join it back up...so if i were you, id give that a shot....

why do you need to remove it? because how are you going to test this out?

this would be the "cheapest" way without modding the ecu

make sure you let us know how you go on this.... should this work, ill post it up on the DIY section for future reference. Im pretty sure we need this one in there

or u could just get a fcd and know thats its gona work 100% without butchering your car

easy and safest way is either

HKS - SLD - Speed limit defender

or

APEXI - RSM

either one will remove the limiter, although I would go the apexi, at least it will give you a few other functions you might find useful on a track.

APEXI - RSM

That's safe and nearly $500 retail for the Apexi unit :(

Wire #53 is commonly known as been able to be cut (according to the SkylinesDownUnder I believe), I never tried it personally as if you have an aftermarket ECU you won't need to do that trick :)

cutting 1 wire is not butchering the car, yo can EASILY join it back up :P

EGG f**king zactly!!!!!!!!!!!.................... thankyou...........

ermm both you guys i dunno if you read his question...... he asked for the CHEAPEST way possible..........

hes "happy with everything" for now.......so he didnt really ask for jibber and jabber or gidgets and gadjets....

i think this is the most efficient way to suit his needs

do you know if this will work for a gtst is it the same wire .... i have heard of this before and was told that #53 wire is the out put to the ignition module when the computer switchs it to earth the ignition is disabled if this is true its a verry easy cheep and safe way of disabling speed limiter im sure you have to cut more than one wire to install one of the hks or apexi units listed above so why would this method be dodgy

If you are in Melb I have stock ECU with a Speed limiter over ride connected to it already. For you to look at. This was installed by AVO.

This should give you an idea of what is required.

the apexi rsm can be had for $300 direct from the usa..

and i thought that was really cheap.. 300 bux is nothing.

pivot speedmeters are pretty cheap and will remove limiter, cutting no53 is obviously the cheapest but you guys with autos better do a search cause i think its a no no.

I've heard you can melt the limiters by travelling at the max speed (this being 180k) for at least 5 minutes at a stretch...the fun part would be finding a stretch of road that is suitable for 5 mins worth of flat out driving at 180Km/h...That overides them without having to buy a limiter defence cut thing.

Or you can do that on a dyno :(

I heard this from many people not just a few of em and a few people who have actually succeeded in doing so. So its worth giving a try i guess, just run your boost on low and gradually make your way up to the speed ona dyno and leave it there for as long as needed.

Don't know how reliable this is since i havnt done it myself...but worth a try like i said....

i think it is the same wire. have a look at the ECU.. apparently the R34 is wire 29# or something but 32 and 33 has the same.

yes i recon... people are forgetting how Stereos, speakers, Alarms, Tachos, immobilisers are installed.....

no body solders things anymore.... its just snip snip.... and electrical tape it shut....

i think its worth a try... and if its no good.... just tape it back up...

sweet cheers might try it tomorrow ill let you s know how it goes

lol

you seem more keen than the OP...

yep, definately keep us posted and you could be the first to POST a DIY. ive checked and there isnt one there regarding this

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
