what do a do bout gearbox and clutch?

can a r33gtr box be modified to suit gtst and handle the power or should i be getting straight cuts? for a clutch i was thinking bout a nismo twin plate?

is this the right path?

cheers

stick with the 5 speed box you have, but i would upgrade to an OS GIKEN gear set. or a ppg helical 1-4 dog gear set.

os giken is priced at $4700

the ppg dog box 1-4 is $6500

and if you wanna do it once and never break anything (itll be very hard) then you can go the full 1-5 straight cut dog box from ppg for $9700

My cousin has a 400rwkw R33GTST with standard box!!!. Has been driving it with this powerfor 4 years now, eastern creek plenty of times countless amounts of insane burnouts, hard driving and still holding fine, they are a tough box especially behind a rear wheel drive car.

As always if you are brutal and slam gears in like your Fangio on a mission all the time anything will break eventually.

Really i wouldnt worry that much dont fix it till it breaks, then add a gearset but i think you will find it will take more punishment than you think.

My 2 cents worth.

Dave.

Do it right once either a OS Giken twin plate which will hold 400rwkw as this is what my cousin runs and has that power and no probs yet. Or i guess a triple plate but i have heard these break gearboxes as they dont have a sprung centre but not 100% sure about this.

Jim berry clutches seem good but im a brand man and just like to trust good quality Japanese products.

How hard did you drive your car??

just wondering if i should start looking before i brake mine...

i thought they could handle a bit more power than that..

Its not the gears that broke, just everything else around them :)

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
