Has anyone here had dealings with Gold Star Autos?

If so, can you post the good ones and PM anything to look out for! Did a search and couldn't find much.

I don't know to much about cars (and what I do know is limited to Fords) and there aren't many cars outside of dealerships right now, and these guys have two Stageas which judged soley on the drive.com ads, I like the look of. I read somewhere that they'll hoist the car for me but tbh, I don't know what I'm looking at under there.

The two cars I am interested in if anyone was interested are:

Gotta say, not really a fan of the colour of either of them but *shrug*

I know nothing about Gold Star bud but judge the car on its merit. Pay a decent import spanner to give it a once over for you.

Car yards won't mind this?

I was under the assumed impression that they wouldn't approve, but if they would then I definitely will do so :P

Thanks for your input

Decent car yards actually welcome an inspection mate. Hit them up and see what they say.

Both my brother and my mum bought their 33's off him last year. Was pretty good to deal with and yes, does not mind you taking any for a test run. Will even shift a whole heap of cars to let you do so. Both the cars are running strong with no problems, so he doesn't seem too dodgy.

We went there recently, as I was looking at getting an M35, and they actually have a lot more in their yard then the 2-3 they are advertising on the trading post. And some of them are actually better than those to! (I personally disliked both the leather interior, and cream interior, but there is a nicer red one there with black/grey interior!

They were friendly enough when we were there, just couldnt help me out with a trade. And now sadly I am probably going to buy a 'normal' car :P

  • 3 weeks later...

I had a different experience.

When I bought my car from them, they actually pulled off the wastegate tube beforehand before the test drive, so the car runs faster or turbo came in quicker. (one of the tube near the AFM, later discovered by my friend because I complained that the car consumes 250kms/full tank)

had windscreen problem (3 gunshots marks in front of driver's view) and they didn't want to replace, till I threatened with the warranty, and they replaced it finally.

the front headlight was lose, they asked me to drive to a wrecker to get the part which he had ordered instead of he himself getting it and replace.

after I bought the car and sent to RACQ check, one of the suspension had a split and required a change

asked them to change but they didn't want to, same like the windscreen (which is a safety issue, and yes he still manage to get a safety cert -_-)

eventually he changed the suspension but.........(wtf why should I beg him to do this??)

this is the most frustrating thing I want to mention:

he didn't tighten the bolt properly after he changed the suspension or whatever! and when I drove back home that night I could hear sound under my car, luckily I was near my friend's house at ferny else god knows i might have met with an accident.

but I want to say a few good things about them:

the car's price is good.I spent 3 months looking for a skyline and he had the bets price.

the paint is good, the condition is good (except that it still consumes max 300kms for full tank now, so not sure what is wrong with it)

tires are good too.

he has some bad attitudes at times, or maybe just to me because i pushed him to change this and that.

you have been warned and good luck with new ride.

well it is my first car so I guess it is reasonable that I had this experience

cheers

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
