So i was keen to create a sub-thread with a pretty standard 'best time' for the Top Gear track... and have a control car that everyone can easily afford if not already own...

But how would you keep it clean... making sure no one heads out with a modded version of the same vehicle? Honesty system?

only way to keep it 100% clean would be to have organised races online then you can moderate

gt5 almost needs its own whole sub-section within the games forum if we're guna start doing superlap time battles lol

now theres an idea.. howabout we just make it superlap at tsukuba circuit. just like the real thing. jap street cars only, unlimited mods.

screenshot showing lap time or it didnt happen

Is there a way to screen dump on the ps3? I can only think to take a shot with a camera (phone or other)

Does/would gt5 support pressing print screen or control + print screen if a keyboard is connected?

ahh yeah good call. i forgot that photo mode doesnt capture the HUD and all that.

im not sure about the print screen thing with the keyboard, i wouldn't expect it to work as i think thats just a windows thing??

when you check the online rankings can you look up a particular user? if so that would be the way to do it, someone posts up their time and another forum member verifies it by looking it up? i'd check but cbf

thats 98k all 5 races combined, 17.3k per race (lame).

or you can earn 48,600 per race in the indianapolis race in the nascar series which takes 4.30 mins to complete. i think i'll go for the latter

hmmm?

no, 98k for ONE 5lap race. Indy, American Musclecar, bottom left next to gran turismo championship races

5laps takes 3.45min in a Ford GT LM race car

5laps = $490,000 and all fresh cars for sale in the used car lot

easiest way to get ca$h for cars

I had read that some games support it, some don't. Will find out later this arvo

highlighted parts above are incorrect.

i realised what race you were actually talking about a day or so ago. its not in the muscle car series at all like you said. thats what had me wondering wtf u were talking about lol. its in the american series in the extreme events section. bottom left, next to the formula series.

yes its 3:45 per race, 98k each. ford gt lm works a treat.

and how awesome is this, i'm most the way through the first endurance race at grand valley. on lap 45 i switched to cockpit view and noticed even on the straights the driver is holding the wheel at about 2 o'clock. now i would assume this is cos the cars had a few minor collisions with opponents, walls etc and its put the alignment out. now i've just pitted and changed driver and its back to normal? what gives? im thinking maybe it resets mechanical damage on pit stops?

i have a b-spec driver called B.George.

i like to think he's Boy George

just a shame you cant name them yourself

Funny you should say that. i just logged on to ask if anyone had seen some funny names. i had an opponent in a race in a honda called V. Take. in the current race i'm in there is a A. Ponce. made me lol.

yeah the damage is split up in how it gets fixed (from the little i've read about it). some slowly fixes itself during the race, some is fixed at pit stops and i think some isn't fixed till you go to the section where you change the oil, etc.

Oh and we've had superlap challenges at tsukuba in the past gt games. i'd like to see it done on the top gear test track. would have to be done in arcade mode though so you get penalties for cutting corners (does it have penalties for cutting corners on the TG track? i know it does if you hit the walls on other tracks)

i got 'next lap invalidated' when i missed one of the chicanes on sarthe so i guess cutting certain corners gets you this. I was doing this in GT mode just on a free run (practice) with my veyron I just won.

BTW does anyone with the Veyron think the rear wing movement is a bit sketchy. Just doesnt look right, I mean it does what its supposed to do in real life, just the way it appears in the game doesnt seem realistic for some reason

Made it to the extreme A-spec events. Much more fun then the races up until now :) Although my near fully modded R33 GTR V-Spec LM Edition can win quite easily, even against race cars

Has anyone completed the nascar challenge with a controller? i'm up to the last race and am getting hammered. so far i have come dead last (and by a decent way) on each attempt. the others i passed relativle easily, but this third one at daytona is terrible. by the time i exit the corner i've lost too much speed and the rest of the field is off in the distance

yeh u can set penalties for bumping, cutting corners etc. in online forums, major bumps penalise u for like 10 seconds and ruins ur chance of victory so it produces clean racing, but pisses u off if the person in front brakes early

drafting is your friend, but as said before u will struggle on nascar challenges without a wheel

    • Your other option is to buy a spray can of hi-fill and prime it with some pinholes. See if the primer makes them disappear. If it does, then you can leave it with pinholes of that size and they will go away when the painter takes over.
    • Ah ok. I seem to be mixing it like everyone else does so not sure what's happening. Will experiment with it more.
    • Depends on what you mean by OK. First up, was this done cold or hot? Are they reasonably consistent? Yes, they are reasonably consistent. Could be better. But unless it has had a build at some point, it is a ~30 year old engine and you'd expect some variation. Some of the difference could also be in user technique Is it good compression? Well....not numerically, no. New they were >160 psi. The one at 140 would be fine, in that context. If they were all ~140, you'd be reasonably happy. But the one that is @120 is twice as far down from the original numbers as the one @ 140. But.. (again)... technique can play a part in the absolute magnitude of these numbers, and the quality/state of repair/accuracy of the pressure gauge is not known. In the context of the above, the compression tester that was used last on my car is regularly compared to a known good pressure gauge. Not calibrated, exactly, but compared to a reference instrument that is not used for any other purpose, so cops no abuse. So we can trust the measurements off that tester. But another tester in the same workshop wasn't being compared against the standard and was reading a good 30ish psi lower. When you're reading 100 psu but the engine is really doing 130, you can make bad decisions.
    • More likely from tiny bubbles in the filler/putty. Maybe be less aggressive when mixing it. Perhaps invest in a vacuum chamber to pull the air bubbles out?** **I don't know if this is a thing for body filler. I see hardcore epoxy makers degassing their mixed resin on the regular.
    • IIRC, the speedo on these is fed from the sensor in/on the snout of the diff.
