After reading THIS (Roadside memorial sparks distraction debate) and other sites and papers about this today I've come to the conclusion that I'm totally against roadside memorials... ...I find them distracting and just another thing that will cause a traffic incident... ...Like people rubber-necking at a crash or someone being pulled over...

So I've popped up a poll... ...and I'd like to know what others think...

i say yes...

if you get distracted by a cross or some flowers you need to learn to pay more attention to the road...

It's like seeing an attractive female walking on the side of the road, it's ur choice to look, if u crash you can't blame her...

agreed. also, the road has a lot of traffic, so their response is to REDUCE the speed limit? wtf? by that logic, the monash fwy should be reduced to 80...

Dont give them ideas lol, its already been 80 because of those stupid road works

It's all well and good to say don't get distracted by it, but people do and will. Some people can't help themselves. That's a bit like saying hoons should be more responsible drivers...it's true that they should, but it's not going to solve the problem.

I say no to them. Not that I've had them cause me harm, but I can see how they might others via the distraction. The way I see it, people place memorials because it has become the thing to do when someone dies in a car accident - you don't go putting flowers in your living room if Grandpa passes away there, or onsite at a workplace if someone dies in a work related incident (sorry, late at night = starved for examples here). Save the memorials for the burial site.

That said, there are plenty of other distractions when driving which have potential to cause accidents. We don't try to stop alot of these because we don't have the ability to do so. In the case of roadside memorials, it's as simple as a law. Try blocking out the sun though...

i think its just the cops trying to find something to blame instead of getting off there ass's and pushing Vic roads to do something about it.

so we will blame the flowers. Next thing we'll see is billboard advertising taking down. flower vans on mothers days taking out of action, donuts vans gone, flashing neon lights late at night on Kebab vans gone.

your on the road driving a car, if you wanna look, i guess thats the major consequence you take.

you don't see them hanging out Maccer's tell people to back off cause there on there third triple cheese and it cause's cholesterol problems.

The issue with the one mentioned in the above article was that it blocked the line of sight out of the corner, as well as covering up the road signs, in these circumstances then it is proper to remove them. There have been others like that removed in my area, for exactly the same reason.

agreed

all the others that i have seen have been in places where visual sight hasnt been imparing any road signs or such

or in a place thats off the road, not exactly where the acident happened but in a safe secure location near it

They have done it again, already. The intersections center sign in median is full of things again.

There are numerous places in safer spots near this intersection, that I think would be a better choice to remember those lost.

Aside from that I'm all for it.

Doesn't one country have card board type cutouts on the side of the road to remember those lost due to motor vehicle accidents in the actual spots? full life sized and kids sized cutouts? Thats one way to let everyone know how dangerous a particular intersection is.

These would also last a lifetime unlike road side memorials which over years get fewer and fewer.

i say yes...

if you get distracted by a cross or some flowers you need to learn to pay more attention to the road...

Paying attention is why you slow down, for example the memorial on the side of the westgate freeway just before millers road, i went past there the evening after it happened, there had to be atleast 30 people there with some pulling up on the line the line between the "emergency" lane and the traffic lane, with out any waring they would open there doors in front of traffic, this in its self cause's traffic to slow, also when you see people running around on the side of the road do you just say f**k it and keep doing 100k's? if you do that is dangerous in its self, what happens if some one runs out in front of you and you kill them, you get done for driving with out due care.

And if people walking around on the foot path that could do unexpected things dosnt matter why is there 60,70 and 80k limits on dead straight roads, after all your paying attention and know what there going to do.

At the end of the day there is likely to be people there, especially for a certain period after it has happened, with increased amount of people right next the road there is an increased risk of people wandering onto the road with out looking, just like in shopping areas where the speed limit is 40 or 50k's.

As WOrp3D said about the pedestrians, it also looked like anyone who wanted to cross the road at that intersection would have had to make a detour away from the relative safety of the traffic island due to the amount of material left in place there.

yes, how is it more distracting then

WANT LONGER LASTING SEX written is size 400 font.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
