Last weekend i decided to change the fluid on the 32 to see if it solved my 3rd > 4th crunching issue..

Filled the box up with some castrol VMX80 as recommended, took it out for a spin and ended up smelling gearbox fluid. Returned home and pulled the shifter assembly off and found the shifter boot was cracked - has now been replaced.

However the box still seems to be leaking after changing the fluid, the bottom of the car is covered in oil. Going to have a look this weekend but thought i'd get some ideas on where i should be looking.

Also - what is the fluid capacity for a GTS4 gearbox?

Hopefully i've just overfilled it or something!

oops.

you need to drain both the box and transfer case now because you just put 4l of oil into the transfer case. also depending if you drained the gearbox last time you may have no oil in there now either. If so don't drive it until you fix it you will stuff the gearbox within about 50k

2l of auto trans fluid through the shifter for the xfer case.

4l of gear oil for the gearbox through the filler on the side of the gearbox.

Does the transfer case have a drain plug like the gearbox does?

I recall seeing something similar to the drain on the box on the back side of the transfer case where the front driveshaft goes in - is that where you fill it? Or should i just fill through the shifter..

yep both the gearbox and xfer case have both a drain and a filler.

you can use the shifter to fill the xfer case if you want and it is more convenient, but it is also possible to overfill it so be careful

Thanks for the help guys..

Drained transfer case on weekend and refilled, also took the drain off the gearbox to see if any fluid was left in there and luckily there still was about half a liter in there as when i originally drained the box it was only jacked up on one side.

Stoked as my 3rd to 4th crunching is almost completely gone! :(

Only crunches if it's hard shifted to 4th above 5.5k RPM, may try some Redline LW shockproof down the track.

just a quick questions, didn't want to start another thread since this is similar,

does a r33 gts-4 gearbox take the same amount of fluid? got a gallon (3.785 L), of redline shockproof lightweight oil and just want to know if whether thats enough or not before I start changing the fluid.

Thanks!

have the car sitting level and fill it up until it starts to dribble out the filler hole, then lock it up. i'm pretty certain your gearbox will take 4L just like everyone else with an rb25 or rb26 box. i had 4 quarts (1 gallon - same quantity you have) of redline lightweight and after tipping it all in, the oil level was only just shy of the filler hole by about 1mm. you can get away with that quite comfortably, unless you wanna be really anal about it and go buy another quart and only use a tiny dribble out of it to top it up.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
