JDM intercoolers are kind of a waste of money, they just seem to fit better and come with better quality silicone pipe / clamps (obviously)

The fitment is the one of the most important influences. I would be pissed iff if i tried to save money buying a cheap FMIC then having to piss around for hours on end to make it fit. And most of the chinese examples from forum sponsors that members post still dont even fit right. Even after fabricating brackets, "hacking a bit off" or adding hoses etc etc. So much hassle.

Some people may be happy with things not lining up properly and not sitting flush/even. I cant stand it.

i thought even the jap coolers required cutting of the reo, so some dicking around still involved. my hybrid took half a day (about 6 hours) to fit, but i was also putting a new front bar on at the same time which required the making of a new reo as the stock one was nowhere near close to fitting it. the actual cooler didn't take that long to fit. most of the time was spent pulling the bar off and dummy fitting the new bar and reo, then pulling it back off, altering it and trying it again, etc.

hey I don't want to hijack the thread but do any of these front mounts fit the with standard piping and front bar without cutting the rio??

Blitz or ARC make those sort of coolers....not sure about the cutting on the RIO part but they use the standard piping ie the same side outlet and inlet

Yeah sorry i was more meaning the actually mounting of the cooler and/or piping. Fitting my Blitz still took a long time trimming the bumper and REO. But Im 99% confident there isnt many that dont.. Possibly the ARC doesnt? Its a tad smaller overall than the Blitz. (Return piping FMIC's anyway)

I just Bought a greddy LS for my 33. Installed it myself..

The kit is awesome ey, it comes with everything you need....

even a greddy washer bottle with mounting bracket, now have room to put an oil catch can there (or something else), also comes with brackets for the horns, air hose for boost line.. Im not sure if there different to the R34 cooler piping, but i needed to get an air nipple welded to the aluminium piping for the boost reference line. wasnt to big a problem... finding an aluminium fitting was the hardest, got it welded at a local aluminim welder.

The LS cooler come's as 280 wide, not 300 like alot of the JDM ones do. This clears the reo by like 5mm... No cutting.... the only cuttin was the hole under washer bottle... finding the hole centre was annoying, but not hard.. lol...

I highly recommend this cooler, especially if your wanting to install yourself.

I'm sorry but anyone who says that has never seen or used an ARC cooler.

they make a GTR replacement cooler. it's direct fit. it's about 50% thicker and is still about 30% LIGHTER than the standard cooler. it also allows MORE airflow through to the radiator core than the factory one and miles more than any ling chow branded one, or whatever brand name they've invented this week. that is an important consideration. most cheap chinese cores act like a brick wall in front of your radiator and can actually cause higher water temps and overheating problems. it also flows better AND cools better partly due to the fluted inlet tubes and excellent construction and finishing. they are worth every penny and more.

I have seen inside plenty of chinese cores, hdi, saber, cooling pro, ling ling, bok choy, cool master whatever you want to call them. and some of them are downright scary. some are better than others but even the best of the worst is no where near the best quality japanese cores.

btw, greddy type LS cores are chinese too. they are up there with the best of the chinese cores but still not a patch on the REAL japanese stuff. the one advantage they have though is that being commissioned by a japanese company at least they fit well and come with all the right fittings etc. that's why they (and the old type M) ones are so cheap as they have a cheap chinese core.

Yeah and what about the price and rarity of ARC parts? It might be ok if you have a GT-R and plenty of cash to splash around, I just don't think that there is a gigantic difference between a Hybrid / Just Jap type cooler and a JDM one to justify the big price gap.

The ARC cooler for my GTR was not that expensive. the most expensive one I've bought which went onto the high octane R34 time attack car was only just over $2,000 and that is about as big a budget car as you'll get. and it works very well, well enough to justify it's price.

Umm that sounds about right for a ARC cooler....but i am pretty sure that you can pick up a Greddy cooler for half that price....Greddy Type M or something and they would work fine if your only chasing something like 250-300rwkw.....I use a Type R or whatever its called and it hasnt had a problem yet.....works a treat and flows oh so much better the most of the coolers out there....Greddy coolers however you gota cut a hole on the drivers side but shouldnt be illegal or anything

the Greddy Type M (now called type LS) are completely different from the "real" greddy intercoolers. they are cheap because greddy made up a kit using a core they had made in china to make it a budget entry level kit. the Type R kits etc from Greddy are very different and are made in japan hence they are double or tripple the price.

ARC coolers are the best no question. yes not many shops in aus stock any decent amount of japanese parts. they are all very keen on stocking chinese gear as they buy in bulk nice and cheap. from suspension to exhausts to turbos.

but a few places may be able to show you an ARC kit, if you're in sydney try Mu's Secret they stock japanese stuff. otherwise ordering online from nengun etc is probably the easiest and cheapest way to go.

    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.

    • sensible choice....and all 32s should be in yellow
    • Run it in open loop for now, and drop the frequency down. This lowers the resolution and requires more duty cycle to do anything, however good to troubleshoot.
