No I agree, but cams is a one off, per annum cost. Isn't that right? If so, doesn't make it so bad..

If people can afford to run/own/upgrade a Skyline be it an R34, 33, 32 GTR, GTT/Gtst or whatever other Skyline they own, if the FMIC, ECU, tires and the fully sick HKS SSQV can be afforded, then I see no justification for people saying they can't afford a $260 layout for what is basically, an oppotunity to drive fast, to push you and your car to whatever limitations the car/driver has, and to do so, safely, legally and with minimal risk to themselves and others.. If people say they can't afford it (I mean if money's tight at the time, then so be it), but if you can NEVER afford then, but think they are in better hands running the risk of killing themselves, another or being smacked with a hoon charge.. I just wont accept it, it is hypocracy and a general sense of tight-arseness in its worse form, one that does no one any favours.. Such lack of good judgement and prudence is detrimental to us as a whole, it places car clubs in absolute jepardy. It gives us all a bad name with which the media, police and the government as a whole, uses to fulfil their own means and ends. We become but pawns in the political machinations of others, that is what we've been reduced to, and I find that distressing, annoying and terribly undemocratic..

I did a collie track day yesterday . Cost was $120 for the day with sausage sizzle included , went through a tank of fuel and two 17" Toyos on the burnout pad :P ( optional extra ) . I had enough driving by 2 in the afternoon and done 50 odd laps for the day

I'm not phased about travelling to Collie for a day of racing, and I have the most unreliable car in the world :)

9th August is club day , come down have a drive .. my patrol will be there with trailer ready

As Dan mentioned we are, but you'll need to realise that it isn't as cheap as doing an AHG day.

CAMS License $100

Event Cost ~ $165

So as you can see it would be nowhere as cheap as an AHG driver day. This isn't meant to put anyone off, but if we are to organise an event, you'll need to understand it may cost you close to $300 if you don't already have a CAMS license. To some this isn't alot of money, to others it is.

For a track car light equals cheap. Skylines are not light for a track car.

Typically I would add to the following list.

Fuel $100 or more depending on where you go & how many laps you do.

Tyre wear: $200 Depends largely on the prevailing weather, how hard you go & what type of tyre you have. Bear in mind road tyres are no cheaper to run on the track than proper track tyres.

Brake wear: $100 (pad wear, fluid, rotor wear)

Oil: Change it however often you like but a change will be $100 or thereabouts. Factor in whatever of that you like.

General wear & tear: You will break stuff and/or wear it out. Don't be surprised when this happens.

It is hard to be adament about what it may cost you. I have seen people turn up, twat about 10 seconds off the pace & go home with a car than looks brand new. On the other hand if you go hard with a car that is not set up quite right (& it wont be unless you have spent alot of time/money doing so) you can trash tyres/brakes etc in pretty short order.

At then end of the day if you want cheap track time get a light car. It used to be the Ford Escort but lately it appears the Honda Civic is the thing to run.

Tracks dont help with speeding on public roads. I dont know what its like at collie track, but when kwinanna motor plex finishes for the night on wednesdays people that are leaving the track sit on 150kph+ on anktel rd and kwinanna fwy, i see it every time i go.

Just read through all that and don't understand why people think they have to have a cams licence to go to barbs?

If you don't have one just rock up to a test and tune day and your day fee will be around $165

If you do have a cams licence (which costs bugger all really) just rock up and the fee is $50-$60

For that you get pretty much a full day of going mad at a proper race track, thats good value as I see it.

Sure, there is more wear and tear at the track then normal driving but its not really that bad as long as you are only doing a few fast laps at a time and not trying to do

le mans.

I agree on the "put money aside and do it properly" thing, but there are motoring enthusiasts on low wages, like apprentices, that can't afford to pay that kind of money on top of their vehicle and personal expenses. Younger people will always make their own fun, not just with cars. By the time they're on good wages and can afford to do it legally, they've grown out of that stage.

Thats why I think the cost of this sport needs attention.

Does Collie require CAMS?

and can you take passengers at Collie?

I know Barbs don't allow it, but I've heard Collie is pretty laid back ??

+1, if the cops arent on the roundabout with a handheld, those roads can get pretty messy sometimes.

Everyone is hell pumped up from watching burnouts and then "OK, 10 o'clock, f**k off now".

Ok, Ive created a thread which is stickied in the WA Section, it contains info on how to get into motorsport. Hopefully you'll find it useful, let me know if there is anything that needs adding.

Cheers

Paul

If you go to the cams website www.cams.com.au & then following through to the club zone you can find a list of all the cams affiliated clubs & also regularly upgated lists of all the cams sanctioned events on in Australia.

    • Wow guys thank you very much for the HUGE info :-) @GTSBoy I have like 30 minutes if test drive with that car/engine and it not stalled once. IMO it ran very smooth so i guess it was not that bad(but asi i said it is stock) That atmo BoV is worse than no BoV or in my case or it is/will be the same? Cuz frankly i rather have little whooosh sound than that sututu 馃槃 But either way the less harmfull for engine/turbo the better(if the stock is not an option right away) Yeah about that rebuild i talk with guy who will be doing swap and custom pipes...i think i can get stock BoV or get aftermarket which will function the same. Yeah i looked at that R35 option and i try ask my mechanic more about that if he knows. The engine has stock ECU but i can get Nistune for it. On that stock it runs quite well...but i have limited time with it so rly dont know. Ecumaster is this https://www.ecumaster.com/  It is not some dodgy backyard ECU :-)  @MBS206 Yeah but it will be better to have Nistune than the completely stock ECU no? About that "same" atmo/no BoV. The drivebility would be the same? I dont know but i kinda guess that amto BoV would cause more problems than no BoV in my case? Or is the same? You just "change" one sound for the other? Yeah i read many many many topic about hurting the turbo. But no one know anybody that would 100% tell that his turbo/engine blows/get damaged by not running BoV. Of course turbo would be little happier IMO if it has BoV ..but if you do not trash i think i should be good. And as you can see iam already trying to get this right...just working what i have right now :-) Yeah iam kinda the same...i dont want nothing loud and frankly iam not liking that sututu noise that much 馃槃 i rather have little bit of "whooosh" or no sound at all. Of course in my case it si a completely another world when you came tu Turbo car with open air box and no BoV and you driving the N/A ...all i hear is engine. Here? I heard turbo/sucking and that sututu 馃槃 @Yeetus So in my case it is really no difference to run no BoV or some atmo BoV like GReddy FV2? The car would drive the same and has "the same" little problems? As i wrote above i kinda thinked that atmo BoV with stock MAF would cause more problems...but then again i dont know much about no BoV either :-)  So to avoid stalling i "cant" just put neutral on stop lights like from higher rpm? Or? Yeah iam already looking for ECU :-)  Yes iam at the same side with thar R35 MAF :-)  @Dose Pipe Sutututu Thank you i (my mechanic/tuner) will look into that) Guess iam taking the Nistune at least :-)
    • Here's the workaround with Nistune I was talking about, just add in more timing on the decel table And play around with the fuel cut & recovery, it's enough to stop it from stalling on a decel
    • Hi Apex and welcome!
    • Probably too late to reply to this, but worth a try. It's not calliper flex, the calliper as a whole is moving so it has to be calliper mounting bracket flex.  Calliper mounting brackets are designed to stop the calliper rotating, they don't need to be designed heavy duty to stop the calliper moving in and out.  Whatever it is is not the major cause of poor pedal feel, the outer pistons are moving towards the disc rotor the same amount as the inner pistons are moving away from the disc rotor.  Hence no change in fluid usage, what extra fluid is needed to move the outer pistons is recovered from the inner pistons. For a calliper to move as a whole by far the most common reason is the rotor is not perfectly centred in the calliper.  The first thing I check is that hub face is perfectly clean, bare metal, where the rotor hats contacts it.  Then I check the that rotor is firmly held in place by at least 3 wheel nuts (or equivalent). If all of the above are confirmed to be in perfect alignment then I would check the piston sizes and ensure that the 3 inner pistons and 3 outer pistons have matching diameters (eg; 28/32/36mm).  I have seen a no name 4 spot calliper that had 1 of the 4 pistons a different diameter. Maybe I missed it, are both the callipers exhibiting the same problem? I would remove the transfer pipe and inspect it to make sure that there are no restrictions. Maybe you already have but if not I would return them with the video and have them confirm all of the above.   Hope that helps Cheers Gary
    • If you have the original log book and it didn't have a chassis number quoted, then no money required.  I have "rechassied" a number of race cars, no problem as long as you have the original log book.   Cheers Gary
