first rule of racing....there will always be someone who will spend more than you :)

I reckon you'll still have a ball. Can't beleive a relitively standard GTR has been running against these things and doing so well.

go tacker! how can you loose, you've got the aussie spirit mate. and hopefully a put crew that knows good sabotage techniques. oh, did I say that out loud? try not to get arrested.... lol.

good luck mate, and definitely give the GTR a few good runs. forget this viper nonsense. deep down you know it's a car built for some bald american wanker with a big gut, a mid-life crisis and a mildly successful job who thinks he's awesome, so he can cruise around in it near the beach, chucking the odd lame skid and hoping to one day get laid....

the GTR is the same, but for japanese middle age guys....of the 90s...

go the GTR!!!

hell yeah. I remember a few years back when you were just starting to get serious with the GTR. adding ducting etc. the first serious GTR is always like that. it's an evolution from street car, to mild track car, to all out track car and lots of compromises get made along the way. the REAL GTR track car comes with version 2. then you can start with a clean slate and a picture of where you want it to end up and correct any compromises or mistakes that were made in version 1. look at mark and russ. their 32 was like that, got added to and changed as things got more and more serious and as their aims for the car changed. it got there in the end but I reckon if you asked them now they could build one in half the time, for 2/3s the money and have it going quicker. look at their R34 for example... it's everything they learnt from the 32 and then some!

so the moral is, do another GTR. start from scratch and keep the old girl around for me to drive should I be over your way. (hopefully will be soon).

did you ever end up running those tein RAs? my memory sucks, I seem to remember you went even more serious shock wise?

BB i did run the RA's and they were mighty fine too.

i guess in a way i will always have a soft spot for the old girl so we are fixing her up to run again this year a few mates of mine will give her a good seeing too though out the year.

But clearly once you see the viper ( i know no pics yet ) you can see just why these things are so fast, and bolting in a stock 505 hp and 600 odd ft/pd of torque in a car that is 1100kgs with fluids makes sense to me. Mind you this car is a good foot wider than the old skyline and engine sits barely 125mm off the ground. It will be truely a weapon in the right hands, and with the quality of the other cars arriving it will need to be!

yeah, can't argue with that logic. it has it over the skyline in so many ways. :D poor skyline, they really are much faster than they have any right to be. such a compromised car but still great fun and fast. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

there was some talk a few months back that 1 of the mosler GT3's was heading over there.

It has a new owner in Aust but the team selling them in Australasia has got a 3rd on the way, no news to who will be taking delivery of the 3rd one

all in all i like the idea of these high spec cars coming to race here can only be a good thing for the local motor sport scene.

When you consider that only 2 seasons ago me and my trusty R32 GTR rolled out for the first ever local saloon car race in the UAE, yep me and five others to what we have showing up 2 years later. It appears we fit in very nicely between the off season in europe and the TV coverage last year on skysports has help no end.

mosler is not a bad piece of gear that's for sure. sadly I saw one get nicely smashed about 2 weeks ago in sydney.... d'oh!

The mosler is a great piece of equipment, been involved with the GT3 mosler from it inspection and the manufacturer for quite a while now (going on 4 years) so i was glad when they finally made it down here again. Spent a fair bit of time with the cars down here at the clipsal race, certainly able to pull a crowd

John has had a few issues going from a tame 430 challenge to the full race spec mosler. They have spent too much time in the walls her e in Aust for my and the teams liking.

Tacker been watching the series grow over the years, (was planning on moving over for a while but it all fell through  )

All the best with the Viper, Got any pics?

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
