fck me dead those driveshaft prices are just rude.... you could have bought yourself another GTR complete with 4 driveshafts for that money and had a 2 car GTR team!

car looks nice. wheels. my god man the wheels. you sure they're big enough? this thing will be a weapon after the GTR. more grip, less weight, more power....hmm

for the airjacks we usually just take a big nitrogen bottle to the track. it's enough to run the airjacks and use it for the tyres too. we don't really use any air tools at the track (use 18v electric rattle gun and good old hand tools). plus a small compressor wouldn't run air tools for any length of time anyway, you'd need a big one for it to be worthwhile. seriously consider buying and using a nitrogen or 02 bottle at the track. much easier and don't have the stupid compressor pumping away all the time.

Yer thats were we are lucky mate and run at a track which is F1 rated, we have airconditioned pit garages with compressed air hoses all around us so we dont need to bring a compressor, just a hose to plug into the system and we are good to go.

These jacks would be wrecked if we put any more than 120psi into them as they only use a nylon hose and the press in fittings rated to 10 bar. We have a tyre fitting service at the track who do the tyre changes temp checks etc etc so we really dont need to be bringing any more crap to the circuit if we dont need to, have a fiat van stack to the roof with crap as it is now LOL.

Yer big old boots huh rims sizes are 14 inch rear and 12.5 fronts which i believe will run a 285 x 650 x 18 on front and lol 345 x 710 x 18 on rear.

I ran a tape over the GTR width last night and bugger me if the viper is not almost 500mm wider from outside edges of front tyres and engine is.....wait for it 200mm lower than the GTR ( measured at top of both sumps ) even to the point where they have machined off about 20mm of the bottom of the gearbox mounting face to get it as low as possible.

Yep should be a good deal quicker than the GTR BUT i am STILL a GTR man through and through!! i will run her at some point this season just as soon as i know there will be a wet race :-)

They changed the rules on us mate this year to limit the KG/HP ratio to no less than 3kg / hp so to keep the old girl in the race i would have to turn the old lady down about 100 hp, although would help the reliability factor it was struggling to keep up with the front running car then and 100 less ponies would just kill her...unless its wet

And we are never to talk about drive shafts again..........

Ok some latest pics with refurbed wheels on.

A pic of the Golf GTi we have just about finished building

And last but not least the new workshop dawg who arrived a few days ago, he is a stray and it appears has adopted us....Spanna the workshop dog

 v.cute (the dog that is), I wonder what attracted him, he thought you looked so well fed that he'd have to do well there?

fark I can only dream about pits with AC and supplied compressed air... the best we get here is there is one compressor at wakefield park in the middle of the paddock that works 30% of the time... as for air conditioning well at about 3pm in the arvo at oran park the wind changes and you get a nice smell of pig shit from the nearby pig farms so I guess you call the air 'conditioned'. I know you have to be 'conditioned' to manage to keep breathing...

even phillip island which has by far the best facilities of any track in aus is woeful on a world scale. when I first went to places like fuji speedway I realised just how rough we have it... :D boohoo poor me etc etc. lol. what do I care, it's not what's in the pits that count.... :D

man that's a lot of girth on that viper. you got any walls near the track? if so please revise 'racing line' accordingly... :D

  • 2 weeks later...

got her running today weirdest engine you have ever heard sounds like a workshop full of harley's very very strange engine with repect to a 90 degree v10 wasted spark type deal. LOL tuner was pulling his hair out for a while but he did get it in the end.

Why outrageous Duncan is only 8 1/2 inches........think lol

Nar mate had the ompa lompa's make me some more brake ducts to go along with the brake fans just thinking what would be best method of mounting and where.

Just noted today they have removed about 40mm off the bottom of the gearbox to get it lower in the car, have spent a lot of time under this thing plumbing up the drive line cooling systems. Those little buggas make more noise than 50 044 bosch pumps.

Trying to make a media day next thursday which will be 8 weeks after getting a container of bits. Ohh and the f34king drive shafts are still not here

    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
