Seriously 90% of the people complaining here don't work in the automotive industry and don't do their own work on their cars.

Says something.

seriously mate, being able to DIY repairs on your cars has nothing to do with this and I'm surprised it keeps getting mentioned. Fine, some may be mechanically inclined and do their own servicing. But the fact remains that the OP sent his car for "panel repairs" ...this is hardly a DIY for 90% of people on these forums.

when you pay a workshop to do work on your car, they owe a duty of care to ensure your asset is well taken care of and not used in a way where its not insured. If damage had happened in the workshop, then their insurance will cover it, but if it was taken for a fang...then it is not covered by any insurance and is dangerous for the vehicle owner and every other road user.

Incorrect.

Companies would have insurance to cover your vehicle while it is in their care.

I found out that someone at a panel shop wanted to call my first car as a write-off because they wanted to buy it for themselves...

They tried but we told em to just fkn fix it.

Picked it up and was pissing white smoke for the first minute of driving, dunno what they did but meh it was only a 31.

Talked to someone a couple years later who knew the panel beater and they told me the story.

Oh and there were dragons!

Sif not tell us the story...

Well there was this girl I was sticking it to, and we broke up and she went out with this panel beater. And she had showed him a pic of my old car some how, and he told her that he worked on that car and wanted to write it off and buy it from auction or whatever.

And then there was a fight between that guy and the dragon and he got eaten. And then she told me at the funeral what his evil plans were. And then I laughed and stuck it to her again later on.

The moral of the story is don't fight dragons, and some panel beaters are jerks :P

something, something, something darkside.....

Looks like someone went to get lunch in your car.

A certain level of trust is required when leaving your pride and joy with a shop. I have thought about crippling the PFC to make sure but have yet to allow any dodgey types to work on my R...as far as I know.

I can think of one specialist workshop I use and I have to bend their collective arm to take the R for a real drive. In the end it comes down to respect for the customer and leadership from the person in charge.

HAHA One day when its not raining. :P

Can someone please PM the name of this workshop? My issue is not that they drove the car without permission but that they lied about it afterwards.. what else are they prepared to lie about? Wouldn't trust my vehicle to a liar no matter how much it was worth.

It's the principle the car was driven without the owners permission in circumstances which don't require the vehicle to be moved. Then it was denied, it's pretty simple. If it was going for a tune or a mechanical service then sure it has to be expected. However it's going to get a bumper fixed. Regardless if the car is worth $50 or $500,000 it's the underlying principle and duty of care of the workshop to do the correct thing by the customer.

However, we have heard one side of the story and in the SAUWA court of law we require the defendent to speak lol.

I asked a family member that works at a panel shop and used to own their own.

After washing the cars they ALWAYS take them for a test drive REGARDLESS of what panel work has been done, this is just to mkae sure its all running smooth when given back to the owner.

So when you consider one side of an industrial to the other and back or whatever 2k isnt that far off the mark. It also explains why they said they didnt take the car anywehere.

There we go, now everyone can unbunch their damn panties over this issue.

lol.. were they supposed to wash my car?? i wish they did!!! test drive for 2.5kms nd tht too over speed limit

i called these guys up and asked them if they needed to take the car to another location for work. they said no and denied any of the guys there taking the car out.

what can i do about this?

well they sent out an info pack with some paperwork for me to fillout and return if i was to go ahead and file a complaint. they said if my claims were valid and they denied involvement even thought evidence proves otherwise, they would be in breach of some act (cant recall name). as for the pictures, their authenticity needs to be verified. Basically, if i wish to file a complaint, i am to confront the business via writing, if they dont respond or we cant reach an agreement, i can fill out the complaint form they sent out. then they will investigate the case.

there you go. you found out what you can do.

thread finished.

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
