growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional. :rofl2:

:O Absolutely correct ! why, some have actualy grown up , found out they didn't like it atall and grown down to a caefully pre selected level.

Looks of the sti's are growing on me too, still not great though.

A couple of guys I used to work with were into their subarus - one had a wrx and one bought the B4 when they came out, the WRX had its engine rebuilt locally under warranty at 40,000kms due to a gudgeon pin failure (ping ping ping!) and the B4 set the record having its engine replaced under warranty at 8,000kms. Doesnt say much for the product when these stories are pretty common...

Were these the late model 2.5 motors ? I know there was a motor problem globaly with the, I think, MYO8 model WRX didn't know it was in B4s though.

I actually don't mind the new rex's. A couple of mates have a sedan and a coupe and they are nice cars. Would i sell the GTR for one. def not, but as a car for the money you'd be hard pressed to beat it. Went for a drive in one the other day (sedan) and was pretty surprised.

I've also driven almost every incarnation of the STI except the latest, and as others have said different kettle of fish.

No granted this was a fair while ago - they were both the 2 litres - I think the wrx was a 99 and the B4 was around a 2002 with sequential twin-turbo.

I recall the early 2.5's (around 2005 or so) had a problem with oil consumption in the first 10,000km. A few owners neglected to check their oil levels and seized their engines.

Also, apparently the 08 WRX's had an oil flow problem to the turbo, meaning that turbos were lunching themselves at 5000km. This has been fixed on the 09.

The 09 is a surprise package compared to previous models. I went from a MY06 Forester XT (which at the time was faster in a straight line than the WRX) to an 09 Rex. The MY09 WRX murders the Forester in a straight line (and corners, obviously).

If the biggest criticism of the car is that it's ugly, then I can live with that. I actually liek the fact that it doesn't draw attention, and that the 08 was such a disappointment. To 90% of motorists, mine looks like an ugly betty, and has the performance of a Kia Rio. That suits me fine, as I don't get the wanker crowd wanting to race me at every set of lights.

couldnt agree more. the understated looks are one of the best parts about the car. really underneath the car is a beast. i got over people staring and pointing in traffic. for a daily driver the only time i liked being noticed was on the weekends. mon-fri i just wanted to get to and from work ASAP without being noticed at all. you can't relax in bumper/bumper traffic with every car staring at you as they drive past you in peak hour traffic. its annoying and you wish you hard the darkest tints in the world to hide you from everyone.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
