what do most of your customers do for a living? are they all just wealthy oil laden land owners or do they have day jobs???

Actually ALL the locals are very educated. They go to uni for many years usually in other countries, i have met maybe 40 or 50 of them who have studied in Australia.

They are very educated people and they all hold high paying jobs, in banks or in military or in police gov jobs etc etc.

The whole "oil money" thing is bullshit, these guys love cars with such passion its amazing, its something that you really have to respect.

Sure you see alot of videos from Dubai about a car covered in gold or silver, and lots of crazy shit like that, those guys usually are connected to the Royal Family and do have a F load of money.

We do have customers who are connected to the Royal Family but I can never tell until someone tell's me.

The local guys are such nice people, it really blows me away.

tuned the fastest car in Georgiatuned the fastest car in Armenianow he's off to UAEGuilt-toy is the MAN!:)

Hahahhaa Gor =) Can't wait till your engine is finished, saw your sump pics, looks good.

Our Dyno broke, I had to build a completly new PC for it and get the software working again, there is about 6 cars back logged to tune, i finished 2 today and here is a video from one of them =)

I got a new Skyline about a week ago or so, I was too ashamed to post on here untill I got started fixing up the car.

Wow this was my 5,000th post since 2002...

To cut a long story short, I took the car for a drive and I was very pissed, to put it in reverse you have to pull the hand brake up, the transmission felt like something from a 1970's corolla, and when it hit boost there was a boost cut.

So thats IT, I realised something..

TURBO ON WRONG SIDE, STEERING WHEEL ON WRONG SIDE!!!

Sooooo, there was only one thing I had to do, and this happened the next day after buying the car.

(Thank FARRRK for that!!!)

I started looking around for a decent rb26, found a few cheap ones then I realised I needed a 25 box and sooo many other things so there was one easy way out, I knew where there was a decent engine and everything I needed to fix this car....

post-1240-0-58869000-1303554991_thumb.jpg

See where this is going ?? :)

This is the turbo from the RB30, it has had quite a large dose of VP raing Q16 =)

This is under the 32, the exhaust crossing over from the wrong side!

post-1240-0-59857400-1303555048_thumb.jpg

So now it was time to sit the rb30det in there, it was not going to fit at all, i thought it would be a easy swap but I was wrong!!

This is my right hand man Soubin by day NibNOS by night (at night we turn his name tag around when he is working overtime), he is with me when I tune every car, he is cleaning up the wire harness from the R33 getting it ready to put in the R32, after he removed it. (He is indian, most of the workers at the shop are Indian and we have 2 Phillipino's)

Dump dummy fitted, this was thursday night at knock off time, Friday is the only day off on the week here because its a Islamic country, that night i grabbed about 200$ worth of alcohol and we got on it big time, I am still recovering

This is how we left it before we starting drinking, the car should be running in the next few days!

Is this the only RB25/30 LHD Skyline in the world? I dunno :)

Nice build! I wish I had a support crew like yours. Do you want an RB 30 block posted to replace the one out of the R33?

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.... You have opened a can of worms now.. Damn you :P

And yeah these guys really are doing everything to help with this build, Its kinda weird, I will bring them any part to put in the car, no matter how big or small it is they just say OK and the next day its installed.

I feel spoiled, Like a fat kid in a toy store with unlimited credit card.... LOL hate to admit it but its true =)

BUT I did donate the old 2jz to the workshop for the Project X Drag car. They were happy when i said i would give it to them but I guess they dont realise how much I hated that engine being in that car they actually done me a favour by taking it off my hands :) 2JZ = Lose.. RB... WIN :)

yes the cars must be LHD to be registered here, and about 5 or more years ago they passed a law where converted cars were not allowed to be registered, which is why this car cost as much as it did because it has Abu Dhabi plates and registered. The plates was half the price of the car really.. very rare, thats why i got the car even if it had a 2j

Should start the car today id say, id upload more pics but dont have time to convert them to smaller then 2mb, (silly rule)

Yeah well I have never been one to do any mods to the body or anything that is not performance related, i don't really care how it looks to be honest just how it handles and goes.

The guys re-located the brake fluid reservoir, and made a heat shield for the master cyl.

Here is a pic. Hope fuel system and wiring is finished today for a startup

wouldn't something like this have enormous heat-soak problems? the radiator fan is blowing hot air straight back into air intake, let alone air from the block/turbo/ex manni radiating right next to it.

  • 2 weeks later...

good idea. it's a GTR right? quarters look GTR-esque. bit rough on the poor old chassis rails though. ouch!

i'm assuming it's RWD now though, with your RB30 and RB25 box yeah? should be a fun car. though why buy a new car just to put your driveline etc in? the R33 was ok wasn't it? and still RHD too which makes the engine bay a fair bit neater.

what are you going to do with the new car? drift?drag?street? etc.

hope it goes well mate. :)

He bought this because it's pre law change, where the RHD converted to LHD cars are not allowed to be registered. This one is registered as it was done prior to the law coming into effect, I think.

I wondered the same thing! Should be a fun car though.

yeah I guess makes sense if you can't drive the R33 on the road. but I thought perhaps there was some exception since it's registered in a foreign country. I thought maybe they have a scheme like we do here where tourists, consular staff etc can register their OS vehicle temporarily but I guess it's only a temp solution anyway.

in 2006 they banned all converted cars to be registered in Abu Dhabi. If you find one with Abu Dhabi plates then the number plate is worth as much as the car.

I could never drive my r33 here, and i did not want to destroy it by converting it and registering it (i could do it in one of the other emirates we have connections)

Its a GTST with full GTR body conversion. it has 18x10 volks and it still dont fit the rear gaurds, they are wide body big time lol

its crazy, the gtr rear end 3.2 ratio makes the car torque crazy, i want to change the ratio back to 4.11 though. can i just remove the parts from my gtst diff and convert them over to the gtr diff to steal the 3.2 ratio? anyone know? its has a R32 gtr diff.

cheers

    • I see, honestly I’m not too fussed about the looks. The only reason to go plenum is to make the piping easier instead of the classic over the rad etc.
    • Not easy to quantify wrt something like how many fractions of a second slower it would be over 0-100. But given that a 250-300rwkW car is able to do that launch sprint in 5-6 sec (and faster with appropriate tyres, and surface)..... giving up as much as a second would feel like torture. A ~450HP capable turbo is not going to make lots of boost in the 2000-3000 rpm range. So, whilst with some boost on hand it will be faster accelerating in that rev range than your engine currently is NA, it will not feel like a fast car until the boost is solidly in. You know what your car feels like right now when you open it up at 2000rpm. if you've ever been in an actual fast car, you will appreciate that the NARB25 is.... not exciting. Well, add some boost and it will be better. But shorten the intake runners and it might not be better at all. It might come out better, but it could end up feeling the same. For me, it's not the 0-X km/h sprints that matter. It is easy to fry the tyres with anything over 200 rwkW. You can't use all the power available in 1st and 2nd anyway, you have to modulate the throttle. What matters is how the car reacts when you're driving in traffic in 4th or 5th and have maybe 2000 rpm on board, and you want/need to add some speed quickly, and don't have time for the downshift. It won't make boost, it will be all NA (at the speeds we're talking about - remember how fast you're going at 2000 in 4th! and don't plan on breaking the limit by too much.) So giving away NA torque is not what I would consider practical for a street car. And retaining that NA torque builds boost faster which makes the car faster. The flashy plenum is not actually better, unless you're looking at a track car where you can keep it on the boil all the time.
    • So how much difference does it make you think? Like 1 second in the 0-100?  I was have smaller turbo so hopefully that spools quick GTX2871.  currently it’s NA so you can imagine pretty slow, but I do want fast accusation a little as there’s not many places I’ll be driving where I go over 80 even near me. So 0-60 and 0-80 targets
    • Short inlet runners cost quite a bit. Dulls off the off-boost torque, and delays boost onset, because arrival of boost is driven by gas flow is a product of the ability to flow air which is torque. This is the reason that the stock manifolds have longer runners. On a 3L, or bigger, you can usually accept the compromise of giving away some torque because the extra capacity gives you a little extra to waste. But on a smaller motor, there's not a lot there to start with. Example, I swapped RB20 out of my R32, 25NeoDET in its place. The "wall of torque" that I experienced afterwards made it all worthwhile. That's because I came from RB20 land where torque is not a thing. But I would not do anything, anything at all, to reduce the low/mid torque I have now, because I remember what it is like to not have it!
    • Really, low/midrange torque goes really bad?? I want decent acceleration, maybe I use a stock rb25det neo manifold?
