Got picked up last night for blue lights on my number plate but thats not the problem.

I got told i can't have 19" rims or higher. I said "what?" The cop says no car is now aloud to have anything larger then 18's since 4 weeks ago.

And he told me i can have neons on under my car at all times when driving as long as you can't see the GLOBE. Crazy!

Any one know more?

^^ That's what I've thought for a while now, you're not allowed to go beyond 2" bigger than factory (unless you can use bigger rims, smaller tyres, to maintain the same circumference and not affect the speedo reading).

Good excuse to get those low-rider utes and bling show cars off the roads.

Yeh im pretty sure you will find the cop was either misinformed or he was just trying to find an excuse to sticker you. Did you actually get stickered or did he just let you know? If you did get stickered, i would go to the pits and find out the story, as im pretty sure Nic is right when he says they are legal up to 2" bigger, and then you have to use smaller profile tyres to maintain rolling diameter. If it turns out the cop was wrong, then i would make a complaint, cops really need to know what they are talking about when they go around handing out stickers and we pretty much end up paying a $150 fine trying to get it over the pits

Don't stress.. I am well known by tha cops. With how much of my time is spent dealing with tha cops, I had to of studied up on the law. How it was - anything larger than 2" from stock needed to be mentioned on the modification of vehicle form and be inspected at DPI. I can't say that this pig is wrong coz i haven't seen such sh*t, but the amount of times I correct the cops because they talk so much bullsh*t.. and having cars made factory with 20'z.. my guess is that he/she is dribblin sh*t to shake up the high performance scene! Honestly not worth talkin about, otherwise they HAVE made a difference. Although, they are very tight on this with the mini trucks because utes must have load tested wheels as they are commercial vehicles.

I was once pulled over for blue neon on my number plate and blue parkies in my headlight. The law states that your vehicle must have your number plate illuminated ( does not mention colour ). Therefore, I was made to change my parkies on the spot to avoid yellow sticker ( which only a dumb*ss wouldn't have ). And lived happily ever after!

He said anyone with higher would get a warning then have a week or something to change them. He also said it's not illegel to sell them so dealers and tyrer shops can sell them.

I guess it's only a matter of time before the word gets around and people start getting pulled over more.

He did quote the law to me.

Lodge a complaint, a big one, make his boss's asshole bleed, then word will get around to not be a retarded cowboy.

Seriously guys, dont just take this shit and go over the pits, if you get stickered for legal mods of factory shit, give some verbal fireworks to WAPOL, preferably higher up, they did after all just cost you a day off work + money.

He's just talking crap, I can guarantee that 19"+ rims are still legal.

Do you really think the DPI could change the law and not make some kind of announcement for the tens of thousands of car owners in WA with larger 19"+ rims.

On top of that don't you think the first people they'd need to tell is manufacturers and car dealers to inform them that every car they sell will now be conflicting with West Australian road laws. I'm pretty sure somebody buying a brand new GTR with 20" rims is probably going to want to know that his car isn't actually allowed on WA roads.

Seriously, the laws are: you can't have wheels any larger/smaller than 2 inches in diameter and then the same goes for rim widths.

If the law changes, you'll probably hear it from some more reputable source than some rogue traffic cop who decides to make up some crap to give you a yellow. When I got pulled over for an RBT not long after I got my car, I had a chat to a Senior Constable who I asked a few questions about what was and wasn't illegal, all the questions I asked were basic, straightforward things that anybody on these forums could answer; and he didn't know the answer to any of them. He had no idea if my pod filter needed to be secured, covered or if I was even allowed to have one. Most traffic cops don't know all the rules and a lot of the time they'll just be using their own personal judgment to decide if a car should be given a yellow sticker.

And spell illegal correctly.

:D

Oh and he's right about the neons, they're allowed, but you need to make sure you can't see the bare lights from pretty much any angle. And they can't be in colour combinations that could confuse drivers in terms of stop lights/headlights or police colours.

So generally no bright red lights on the back, no combination of red/blue and keep them mounted high enough so all the body kit/side skirting covers the lights apropriately.

Or even easier, take them out and throw them in the bin and you'll get pulled over much less often and avoid the chance of getting a yellow from a cop who's "best judgment" is flawed in respects to the Australian Design Laws.

Well seeing as you started two threads on the same subject:

You've been duped by a cop who "thinks" he can pull one over you. Ahh country cops, so "up with the times".

We are all governed by a national ruling NCOP14 http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/veh...ng_3Feb2006.pdf

In summary we can not increase tyre width by more than 30% over stock (OEM) or placard.

So Front can go from 225 out to max 292 (rounded to nearest avail size 285)

Rear can go from 245 out to 318 ( or 315 next avail size).

You can have any size Ø rim as long as you maintain aspect ratio and the overall diameter of the tyre is not more than 15mm larger than stock.

Also the tyres must be load rated to suit.

I suggest you print it out, highlight the parts pertinent and keep it with you and if he hassles you again, show him the error of his ways, then bend him over and shove it up his a**.

Hallelujah brudda.................

P.S. If you call DPI they will tell you all traffic cops should be using the NCOP rulings now, and not what is on the DPI site as it's old info.

    • Look, realistically, those are some fairly chunky connectors and wires so it is a reasonably fair bet that that loom was involved in the redirection of the fuel pump and/or ECU/ignition power for the immobiliser. It's also fair to be that the new immobiliser is essentially the same thing as the old one, and so it probably needs the same stuff done to make it do what it has to do. Given that you are talking about a car that no-one else here is familiar with (I mean your exact car) and an alarm that I've never heard of before and so probably not many others are familiar with, and that some wire monkey has been messing with it out of our sight, it seems reasonable that the wire monkey should be fixing this.
    • Wheel alignment immediately. Not "when I get around to it". And further to what Duncan said - you cannot just put camber arms on and shorten them. You will introduce bump steer far in excess of what the car had with stock arms. You need adjustable tension arms and they need to be shortened also. The simplest approach is to shorten them the same % as the stock ones. This will not be correct or optimal, but it will be better than any other guess. The correct way to set the lengths of both arms is to use a properly built/set up bump steer gauge and trial and error the adjustments until you hit the camber you need and want and have minimum bump steer in the range of motion that the wheel is expected to travel. And what Duncan said about toe is also very true. And you cannot change the camber arm without also affecting toe. So when you have adjustable arms on the back of a Skyline, the car either needs to go to a talented wheel aligner (not your local tyre shop dropout), or you need to be able to do this stuff yourself at home. Guess which approach I have taken? I have built my own gear for camber, toe and bump steer measurement and I do all this on the flattest bit of concrete I have, with some shims under the tyres on one side to level the car.
    • Thought I would get some advice from others on this situation.    Relevant info: R33 GTS25t Link G4x ECU Walbro 255LPH w/ OEM FP Relay (No relay mod) Scenario: I accidentally messed up my old AVS S5 (rev.1) at the start of the year and the cars been immobilised. Also the siren BBU has completely failed; so I decided to upgrade it.  I got a newer AVS S5 (rev.2?) installed on Friday. The guy removed the old one and its immobilisers. Tried to start it; the car cranks but doesnt start.  The new one was installed and all the alarm functions seem to be working as they should; still wouldn't start Went to bed; got up on Friday morning and decided to have a look into the no start problem. Found the car completely dead.  Charged the battery; plugged it back in and found the brake lights were stuck on.  Unplugging the brake pedal switch the lights turn off. Plug it back in and theyre stuck on again. I tested the switch (continuity test and resistance); all looks good (0-1kohm).  On talking to AVS; found its because of the rubber stopper on the brake pedal; sure enough the middle of it is missing so have ordered a new one. One of those wear items; which was confusing what was going on However when I try unplugging the STOP Light fuses (under the dash and under the hood) the brake light still stays on. Should those fuses not cut the brake light circuit?  I then checked the ECU; FP Speed Error.  Testing the pump again; I can hear the relay clicking every time I switch it to ON. I unplugged the pump and put the multimeter across the plug. No continuity; im seeing 0.6V (ECU signal?) and when it switches the relay I think its like 20mA or 200mA). Not seeing 12.4V / 7-9A. As far as I know; the Fuel Pump was wired through one of the immobiliser relays on the old alarm.  He pulled some thick gauged harness out with the old alarm wiring; which looks to me like it was to bridge connections into the immobilisers? Before it got immobilised it was running just fine.  Im at a loss to why the FP is getting no voltage; I thought maybe the FP was faulty (even though I havent even done 50km on the new pump) but no voltage at the harness plug.  Questions: Could it be he didnt reconnect the fuel pump when testing it after the old alarm removal (before installing the new alarm)?  Is this a case of bridging to the brake lights instead of the fuel pump circuit? It's a bit beyond me as I dont do a lot with electrical; so have tried my best to diagnose what I think seems to make sense.  Seeking advice if theres for sure an issue with the alarm install to get him back here; or if I do infact, need an auto electrician to diagnose it.
    • Then, shorten them by 1cm, drop the car back down and have a visual look (or even better, use a spirit level across the wheel to see if you have less camber than before. You still want something like 1.5 for road use. Alternatively, if you have adjustable rear ride height (I assume you do if you have extreme camber wear), raise the suspension back to standard height until you can get it all aligned properly. Finally, keep in mind that wear on the inside of the tyre can be for incorrect toe, not just camber
    • I know I have to get a wheel alignment but until then I just need to bring the rear tyres in a bit they're wearing to the belt on the inside and brand new on the outside edge. I did shorten the arms a bit but got it wrong now after a few klms the Slip and VDC lights come on. I'd just like to get it to a point where I can drive for another week or two before getting an alignment. I've had to pay a lot of other stuff recently so doing it myself is my only option
