Im gonna be freshening up my 32R motor, so whilst its out i was offered a set of 34R turbo's as a slightly better option than mine for $500. I checked the shaft play and it seems fine.

Is $500 worth it for a set of 34R turbo's....or would my $500 be better off spent on doing something else to my turbo's for an equivalent price?

mmmk that makes sense.

I guess how i looked at it was -well im only gonna be freshening up the motor and leaving the original turbo's i got on there anyways; so for 500 for a little bit better than what i got (they got better dump pipes i think yeh?) i might as well do it...

How much would i be looking at to hi-flo my turbo's? ....would it be worth it?

if you want some more zing and dont want a big capital outlay

and you are prepared with the ceramic risk (the same risk you have now with standard BNR32 turbochargers)

then the BNR34 turbochargers would be a good stepping stone. the front compressor wheel and cover are larger

0.42 a/r vs 0.53 a/r so its likely to give some more power for puff and its likely the components would be better

given sub 1989/1990 vs 1999/2000 so for $500 its not bad on a stock motor, on a built motor, its the same risk/timebomb

mmmk that makes sense.

check the hypergear thread in forced induction, high flow gtr turbo's have been mentioned, or msg him for a quote.

The reply I got on high-flowing GTR turbo's ended up within ~$100 of buying Garett 2860/2560 turbo's new (if you used the ball bearing version).

And other forum sponsors were selling the garett turbo's cheaper than Hypergear...

I thought we had the lowest price on all Garrett turbos. How much did you endup getting them for? Also the one that I quote was for a GT28RS with the 9fin GTRS turbine. Not the GT28 with 10fin turbine.

I've seen vendors selling them for $2500 a pair but its not the one I want (it was a -5) and its +$200 or so to get the gaskets et cetera.

I'm not currently purchasing, I'm looking at buying a house first so that will be a slight delay :P

EDIT: I am interested in the difference in the turbines. Also I've seen an NZ seller selling HKS GTSS for $3100 as a kit plus $75 postage :)

I quoted $1250 per turbo for the -5s. Which is $2500 pair. and $10/ Gasket. Sure its not my quote? any way Pm in when you are ready. I believe we currently have the lowest prices for Garrett Turbochargers.

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
