i found a turbo package kit that comes with a brand new t04e turbo, a manifold and a wastegate for about $700 on ebay for a rb20det. Now, im not that kind of guy that will just buy something as soon as he sees it. Is the t04e turbos for rb20det's any good? Can i expect a large increase in horsepower?what are your personal opinions?

Im kind of stuck between either buying this or buy a rb25det s2 turbo.

any help/information would be great. Thanks

So you will need an ECU(Nistune or standalone) and injectors, fuel pump. GTR injectors can handle 260+. I do not know if this turbo will do it, but there is a very large gap between 250 and 300. That is the difference between a GCG Highflow and a GT3076.

Personally I would be aiming for the lower more responsive figure if it is a street car.

Is this a planned purchase or an impulse buy due to seeing it for sale?

impluse buy. Im not trying to make it a track car. Its just that someone told me they would sell me a s2 rb25 turbo for $430 and i seen this kit on ebay for $700 and thought... "hmm....pay extra $200 and get a aftermarket turbo with much more power".

Im not trying to get it to 250kw straight away, but this turbo can be one of the first steps. Later on ill get internals done, cam gears etc...

so, if i do get this t04e, ill need a fuel pump, which will set me back $200, nistune chip which will be about $500 and some injectors which i dont know how much they cost(how much are gtr injectors?)

you reckon i should get it or a rb25turbo?

Ebay - i knew before i even opened the thread it would be a typical 'ebay special'...

A t04e, if its the typical style, will not be useful on the RB20. You will not even see reasonable boost before 4500-5000rpm. You'll make 250rwkw (maybe) but it will be the shittiest car to drive you will hate it. I had a t04e on my RB25 (car came like that), and it was appaling.

$700 is cheap for a turbo kit - so think about it, why is it THAT cheap? A DECENT kit costs over $3500

If you want a decent and reasonable upgrade for the RB20 - put a RB25 turbo on there like everyone else does. Best bang for your dollar.

BTW - I've edited your signature, please keep them clean. This is site that does not really condone vulgar displays.

$3500 for a single turbo kit is kinda going off the deep end... if it is a Garrett T04E then you will have horn old school turbo lag like an 80's performance car.

Don't know about ebay turbos apart from that they are shit and you'd be best off leaving them for VL owners.

have one on my car dude...its making 250rwkw at 14.5psi.....problems are that it is laggy as shit....max torque is at 4600rm... is it externally gated??.. are you gonna high mount it?? u have a lot of things to do b4 chuckin it on.... man..save your money for a little longer and chuck on something respectable like a gt3076r... great power..great response..ggreat reliablity....poor man pays twice... trust me.... i god dam hate my t04e

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
