I have noticed yesterday around belconnen and civic there have been loads of cops driving around and doing license and car inspections. Has anyone noticed this too or know why?

Yeh Mate, I have noticed it alot. I usually see at least 4 cop cars or paddy wagons everytime I head out. They are everywhere. I've seen motorcycle cops in the middle of roads with radar guns, Pursuit Cars hiding down from Speed Vans.

How vigorous are the inspections you have seen? are they just checking stickers?

I wasn't in my skyline..... lucky. But the things they checked was just rego and tires.

I haven't noticed anymore than usual but I'm southside. Filled up at BP next to a red AFP car last night but that's about it, haven't seen many others at all...

Maybe there's a blitz on the northside or something?

Yeah, too many awesome cars on the northside. Probably trying to fix the ratio

Are you sure? Even the ones with Australia Federal Police written down the side? and the guy who was filling up was in full constable uniform

yeah I've been good! I got a new car! We'll have to organise a xmas cruise or something soon-ish and get everyone along for a catch up

yeh a Xmas Cruise would be awesome.

I think you will find that Feds dont waste their time with petty traffic infringements and motor vehicle related matters. They leave that to ACT Policing.

I think there has been a substantial number of recruits over the last several months. Must have graduated and started duties.

Certainly they are not a "not-for-profit" organisation.

I wonder if you can buy shares? But as Tax payers I suppose we are shareholders of sorts. When do they pay the dividends from our shares? I could use the money to pay the fines and increase my share holdings.

massive roadside inspections going on monaro highway northbound just before the new gaol intersection.

that was still there when i drove past 10mins ago. im glad i left before they started.

Long gully/mugga lane is fine, that's the way I went back from hume.

Also, don't go back through QBN, just in case. there was a cop with a radar gun, but I wouldn't put it past him wanting to inspect ppl (not that I think he's allowed lol)

Keep your cars legal and ya shouldn't have issues ....

I got defected a month ago now and it just aint worth the hastles anymore to drive it with too many mods , if ya gonna mod keep it within the guidelines

Had to spend over $1500 in one week clearing defects it just aint worth it ...

Ummm... what state are you living in???? Since when did the ACT have ACT police, they were all federal last time I checked....

The only problem I have with this is that the last time I was defected, the cop & RTA dudes ignored my engineers certificate. I have my wheels and FMIC engineered by Ray Spence, passed Dickson with no issues, yet on the side of the road they didn't seem to care.. So I just find it easier for myself to avoid the roadside inspections.

Just to clarify. The guys in red cars with Australian Federal Police written down the side are called Uniform Protection Officers and deal primarily with Guarding high profile government officials, bomb threats, embassy related matters, terrorism, they are not instructed to perform general traffic duties. When I say ACT policing its general title given to regular police officers around canberra, because technically AFP are national. Federal Agents, Uniform Protection officers etc wouldnt waste there time pulling you over unless you had a bomb or some of columbias finest.

    • Block bump. $400. As above cyl 6 needs bore or sleeve.
    • I would think making the argument that the travel is limited by a spring flexing against a spring perch as "the same method". Later on in the document they do state that the spring can't bind on full bump travel and cannot come loose in full rebound travel as well. (which is all very sensible). The laws are actually pretty sensible and reasonable. It's just that the people who enforce and check them don't actually read them or know them accurately. "Oh, coilovers? Instant fail mate. Don't even need to look at it." - Guy who will be instantly reported by me. There is probably merit to people who do get defected for height also get defected for the suspension in that state that allows it. I did never consider the people who are complaining about coilovers being picked on are also running around at 50mm off the floor.
    • I think given SAU's knowledge of E85 we can strongly conclude that 10% ethanol in almost any situation is entirely fine. Almost all of the myths against E85 were overblown, let alone E10.
    • From your link See bold text, is this referring to damper settings, if so that may a issue for "some" inspectors, I cannot see aftermarket coilovers having the evidence that "must be available that its functional performance is equivalent to the original" Maybe just remove the adjustment knows and hope for the best???? Meh 5.2 Suspension travel In all instances, modifications to a vehicle’s suspension must ensure the integrity of the system and not compromise the ride quality. At least two thirds of the original suspension travel should be maintained in both directions (rebound (i.e. extension) and bump (i.e. compression)), and rebound must be limited by the same method used by the vehicle manufacturer or if this is not practicable due to the nature of the modification, an equivalent method. If an alternative method is used, evidence must be available that its functional performance is equivalent to the original.
    • They actually don't - They adhere to VSB14 rules just like Victoria. The rules are against CABIN adjustable height, and it quite clearly states that the height has to be within parameters. I asked the VASS engineer to confirm this when I got my car engineered and they refused to engineer the coilovers because they didn't meet the requirements for requiring engineering. (mine are height adjustable.) People "Not wanting to bother" with "Actually reading/knowing/adhering to the rules" should result in fines and immediately losing the ability to issue blue slips and/or RWC's in Vic.
