you inspire me to be a better person :P:rofl:

so what would be the best way to go about the the headgasket issue and if it is a cracked head how would i go about that?

cheers for your help

pull it apart yourself taking plenty of photos along the way so its not too difficult to put back together. take the head to an engine place (i have used richardsons engine service, but ask around there are plenty of good places). get them to check it over and face it.... if its not warped/cracked slap it back on and do a skid. if it is munted depending on wether you are going to do the labor yourself suss out quotes on a 2nd hand motor vs new head

btw its a good chance to replace hoses when the head is off

going to renmark on wednesday, to check out a 50acre property

a third of the land is producing fresh produce with a contract for harvesting/sale

has plant equipment and monitered irrigation, tractor & all the parts needed, 4wbike

nice roomy house as well, spare bedroom for parents/visitors to come up & stay every month

might do it. make a go of it while my knees are out.

got say 12-15years from hereonin until I can get knee replacements (due to age & the nature of my knees),

plus thats how long the kids would take to finish high school. 2010-2025 we might be farmers in renmark.

come back to adelaide once kids are ready for Uni - plus the crop yeild will be its best in the next dozen years.

otherwise im stuck on disability pension doing nothing, getting nowhere

this could set us up a little, ie your house/land is your business/income, enough so that we come back to adelaide in a bakers' dozen years

with cash outright for a nice home, R35 or R36, get the knees replaced and see where we are at

kids at uni making their own way, and by then I may be totally rooted with the knees, but at least give it a go

could be win

good luck tangles i hope it all works out for you up there, ive just moved back to adelaide from up there....but only cause the riverland wasnt too kind too me

but i hope if you do it that everything goes well for you :P

cheers, we'll see on wednesday & go over the fine details

it brings in decent income over 24months, dont know costs yet, no water license so thats a downer

price-wise tho we'd start afresh and make a go of it. its not beyond us, just the unknowns . . . .

    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
    • You can temporarily* use lock collars to keep it in place until you can do the bushes, back the nuts off, slide them in, snug back up. *temporarily is often for ever
    • Thanks for the quick reply. To be clear, when you say turbo shuffle do you mean turbo flutter "stustustu" or referring to something else? I had thought they were the same thing. When I wrote the post my intention was to say it wasn't a flutter/compression surge sound. My understanding was that a flutter sound would be occurring when throttle is released, whereas I can keep the throttle in the same position for this noise
