Canon 450D seems to be the best bang for buck entry level SLR .... have a few friends with them and swear by them. Pretty sure Sled had one - PM him about what he loved about it.

Damo how much did you pay for yours? There is a Nikon D40 in Ebay currently without bids for $424 delivered in supposedly excellent condition - seems to cheap for a half decent SLR. I have always wanted a decent camera .... I might buy it if you think it is good value and a decent enough camera (I am a point and shoot camera noob so want something simple).

I have the Nikon D40, about a year ish old now, great entry level, awesome pics on auto, and not 5 billion adjustments like a 3000+ dollar DSLR. Feels good in the hands too.

The Nikon website says they are discontinued.

And the D60

Yeah they have been replaced, probably with similar models.

Andrew, yeah i rate mine for the occasional photographer, i think i paid around $600 for mine from Harvey Norman when they were clearing them out ready for the new models, and i thought that was cheap! They were around $1000RRP IIRC.

I had the Canon 350D..........they're up to a 550D now which is not a bad SLR (relatively compact for an SLR).

I've got a mid level camera now, the Nikon D90, which I'm pretty happy with..........the Nikon D3000 is also a good camera but you can't go wrong with any of the above.

and here i am stuck with a 400D lol.

somewhat tempted to f**k it off and buy a full frame camera.

I considered that before buying the D90 Dave but then you don't get the advantage of the zoom multiplier which is handy for my line of work.

Pros that tend to be more concerned with wide photography only, tend to go for full frame (I think)......but then you can always buy a fish-eye or wide specific lens if wide is your thang.

Yeah I may have had a few too many beers then way too many reds on Saturday night at the Sebel Playford .... but the Morton Bay Bug and Prawn entree was awesome, then the 220g GSM eye fillet steak that was encrusted with dijon mustard and smothered with smoked red wine jus was out of this world, and the icing on the cake was a 3 type of chocolate torte with fresh strawberries and strawberry juice glaze ;)

Today might be Tracy's last day of placement at Flinders Medical Centre! ;) She's been doing placement (work experience) for the final stage of her Nursing qualifications ... which means she doesn't get paid for 6 weeks! :bunny:

Now she can work at WCH again and get paid for it. My income has been paying for everything for the past 6 weeks! Now I can start saving up for shit again. The house extension and Tracy not working has been killing us. :)

My cousin is in a similar situation, already a registered nurse however shes been doing the Midwife upgrade course which entails having to do (x) amount of deliveries and they dont get paid for it. She only has 2 more to go thankfully, cause like you guys, her family could really deal with the extra cash (or paid work instead of unpaid work in other words)

Pretty rough really, hardly a surprise we don't have more nurses. What dept does Tracy work in at WCH ? Thats where my cousin is based...

    • Maybe also really stiffly sprung track cars. Get the inside wheel up in a corner and all the fun stops. Also me sometimes (rarely) when I have to stand on the brake to convince the diff to drive the wheel that is still on the ground when I'm trying to diagonally get over severe driveway entrance, etc.
    • I feel like I'm missing something. You had an authorised installer come out and install a new alarm. Post install the car doesn't start, and you aren't getting the installer back to fix what they did wrong?
    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
