after a few threads here, and a load of questions, i finally picked up the Stag last Saturday

overall, pretty happy with the purchase :)

thanks to all who helped answer my questions over the past few weeks :)

for those that missed my earlier threads, i bought a black 1999 RS Four S

having had the chance to drive it over the weekend (covered a couple hundred km's), my thoughts are:

- my manual gearbox is a little notchy, and a little whiney (but not unbearable)

- the "free" immobiliser that was put in is actually from a very reputable brand (probly would have bought similar anyway), and works well

- the "free" 5 year warranty doesn't actually seem too bad ( Plan C - http://www.247roadservices.com.au/extended.htm ), $ limits are reasonable on Plan C, plus the only real condition is you service the car (at a licensed mechanic) every 10,000kms (or less)

- xenon headlights are cool, as is adjusting them from the driver seat

- a couple of the backlight globes for the climate control are blown, but i found this thread ( http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/S2...tr-t209728.html )

- they didn't install an FM expander (not a big deal, i will be replacing the HU very soon)

- the 6 stacker cd works

- in stock form, it's not an amazing handling car (but i guess that's not hard to change)

- in stock form, it doesn't feel ridiculously fast, although it's very easy to go way too fast in the car (i.e. you're way above the speed limit without realising sometimes)

- sun roofs are fun

- a 6 burner bbq fits in the boot (with rear seats down)

- my speedo reads about 5% under (compared to a GPS)

more thoughts and comments and pics to follow :D

Congrats on the new purchase! :D

I too am a recent owner of a black S2 RS FOUR-S with twin sunroofs :D , I spent a fair while looking for one that I wanted on USS auctions on a daily basis.

Overall these cars are ok, not too quick in standard form but can easily be improved. Look into a set of adjustable coilover suspension with good spring rates & a thicker rear sway bar as this will help with the handling too.

If your looking for no more than 200kw at the treads, just your basic mods eg FMIC, pod, 3" turbo back exhaust, high flow or no cat at all :) , slight boost up and tune.

congrats to you too!

will probably keep it stock for a while, but when i do mod it, will be looking at suspension mods as you mentioned, plus yeah about 200awkw, following that basic recipe :D

Nice buy, Stooge - congrats! And congrats to you too, Dan!

Regarding the gearbox being a bit notchy, get your chosen workshop to fill the box with Redline Shockproof gear oil, and you should notice the improvement straight away, especially when it's cold.

Handling - the best bang-for-buck mod is bigger swaybars (preferably adjustable ones).

Oh yeah, and it does cruise a little too easily at above freeway speeds if you're not careful. Lucky for me I've always noticed before it's gotten too out of hand.

wont take you long to mod it haha.

i said i'd keep it stock for about 1yrs.

3motnhs in intercooler was on, exhaust was on. haha when the mod bug bites, it keeps eating away at you!

good stuff with the pick up though!

i know what you mean re: mods, but it'll have a baby seat in it soon, so there's no real point to modding it . . . yet

We arn't all that bad. Im the one that has to convince my husband on mods. :bunny:

True. My wife just looks at me as says "just don't tell me about it!" while walking off. :)

Having said that, she loves the comfort when she is a passenger and definitely loves the power when she does get to drive it (very rarely)!

Looks the goods mate. Good platform to start modifying!

I purchased mine dead stock too, im glad Ive got all the standard parts unless I get defected!!!

Here is a pic of mine in current form. Im not happy with the wheel combo I have so far, Im getting them powdercoated in a gun metal grey shortly. If im still not happy Ive found a set of SSR professors in 18 x 9.5 +12 all round that I may snap up.

Sorry for the crappy iphone pic

fairly surprised with fuel economy or lack thereof

petrol was cheapish last night, so put some in

my first 250 km's was done at around 13L/100kms

this was with air con 90% of the time, and boosting it fairly heavily (hey, i just got it!)

with a sensible right foot, i reckon a steady 11-12L/100kms could be achieved

very clean, good to see another black s2! :D did you purchase it from ALLIMPORTs by any chance? they had one just like yours for sale recently

nah, bought it from Nagoya Motors

pretty happy with it :)

very nice, congrats on the purchase, im sure you wont be disapointed. i missed my stagea so much after i sold it that i bought another one a couple of years later

I was the same...went from a s2 to a pulsar sss. It was so gutless and small (ie. impractical) and the mrs and I both decided enough was enough. 3 months after selling the s2 I'd paid to have an M35 imported. best thing I ever did :ninja:

    • Order for the 2025 model R35 GT-R were accepted from 3rd March and 26th August the last order rolled off the production line at the Tochigi plant. Concerning the R35 GT-R replacement, current Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa said "Nothing has been decided about the GT-R at this time, but we are well aware that everyone is waiting. The GT-R will evolve and reappear in the future. Please be patient until that day comes." Nissan has a lot of issues with management and finances so take Espinosa's words with a big grain of salt. From what discussions I've had and read about here in Japan, not a lot of people are confident about Nissan's future, let alone the next GT-R.
    • Thanks. We getting some parts along too so he will be solving the speed issue like next week so i will let you know what he came up with.
    • 21 is explicitly the coils detected as the issue. Is it guaranteed the actual issue? No. Just the ECU thinks it is. When you say rattling, describe it better, get an audio clip as best you can if possible.
    • Yea got me coppers. Bad news is I just put them in and the car still has the light and shakes. I also noticed I hear like rattling coming from the exhaust piping right under me. Does 21 also have a possibility of being O2 sensors?   So, coil packs are good, the harness is good, the MAF is working, and obviously the spark plugs just replaced and working.
    • Make sure you drop the GTT base tune back in, and set your injectors again, this will remove anything playing up with it you may have removed. Possibly lean there as it's normally a fast transient going THROUGH atmospheric pressure, and a turbo motor would then quickly go richer as boost builds. The only worry you MIGHT have is ignition timing, as the DE is higher compression than the DET from memory. But again, you're not in boost, so the DE motor will be a lot more forgiving at atmospheric.   Get Murray, Kinkstahs, and Johnny's input on tuning haltechs, those guys have played with tuning enough in the past to be able to help now you're past the trouble shooting stage of the MAP issue
