Hello there,

I need to run a cable from my boost controller (driver side) into the engine bay.

What's the best location for routing the cable through the firewall?

There must be some existing cable ducts that I could use ... right?

For my boost gauge I ran it through the existing grommet into the drivers wheel arch and from there poked a straightened coathanger through one of the rubber grommets under the dash. Took a little bit of fiddling but got there in the end :P

yeah what he said. or you could drill a hole the size of the hose. but i would just go through an existing grommet

For some reason the previous owner of my car decided to not use the gromment, but instead feed the boost gauge line between the grommet and the metal. Works fine.

Actually, it's a bit easier to do too... I did the same when I installed the light in my pod cover.... ran the power wire between the grommet and metal on the passenger side, seemed to be more room and more give for me to fiddle with.

The cable I have to run into the engine bay has a connector about the diameter of an index finger ...

So I guess I need a bit of space ..

But no worries, I'll figure something out I guess.

You'll end up with a wet floor, if the big grommet under the inner gaurd isn't seated properly every time it rains you'll get a leak unless you use heaps of silastic as well

Nah, no leaks... the one on the passenger side goes directly from engine bay into passenger footwell... not sure about the driver's side one though, never looked.

Does your 33 have ABS? I remember looking at some of the DIY threads when i was doing my boost gauge and they were saying to go through on the passenger side... the only place i could find that even looked remotely like i could pass a wire through was behind the ABS controkller... so i went for the drivers side option :down:

drivers side is much easier to use anyway, its short ah=nd direct, I've got all my stuff throught there, boost hose, 3 x gauges, WMI, WMI solenoid, and probably stuff I've forgotten.

PS has long been abolished as a power figure in Germany ... all the numbers are in KW these days.

Hello there ...

I just wanted to report on my progress.

After searching for a location with enough space to route my cable through I gave up since there was no such thing in my Skyline ...

However after some searching I was quite lucky and found a spot were there was a mark for a hole but without it actually being cut out .. :(:P:D

After some drilling and work the hole was to my satisfaction ..

(here it is already coated with rust primer)

In the meantime I have searched a local auto-yard and secured some grommets, one of these will be a perfect fit:

No ... they're all grommets (I must know since I scavenged them myself) ..

They're mostly from German cars like VW and BMW.

And yes ... I thought I might start collecting those :D

Hello there ..

I just wanted to report that after some work I got my EVC installed alright.

(the hole in the firewall was for the control cable for my EVC / BoostController)

I have never done this before but didn't want to mount the solenoid at the firewall.

Here's what I came up with:

I made an adapter from 3mm aluminum

The adapter connects to the boost solenoid:

The whole thing was mounted using one of the airbox bolts:

And here's where I mounted the EVC-Unit inside

(It's not perfect but I wanted to have easy access to the controls of the EVC)

All what's left now is testing the whole thing which I couldn't due to bad weather ..

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
