This is what was actually written;

Hey guys,

Just got off the phone to Len at OG Speed shop, Who is on the Motorplex Committee..

I was told the Government just sold the proposed site to Delfin Reality-housing in a 'back door deal'...

Last weekend at the protest they said they would make it an election issue and today he says now they cant!

The committee has called this State Corruption at the highest level....

He also said to make things worse the council have blocked AIR from reopening the track under MrMikeRanns instructions.

well done Mike Rann

ironic, once it was made a political issue, the land was sold.

Lets see rann try and stop us finishing that track. :P

I still think we need to try and get a decent surface on the track before we start racing.

You'll have your car finished before we finish ours, which is a bit sad considering we started ours over 4 years ago.

well i wouldn't want to build a house there.

I'm a civil engineer and AFAIK it's only suitable for an industrial area but delfin want to make some more money from another cramped development in a non suitable area so they get what they want because they have access to the back door dealings of the labour party. That drag strip would ahve brought in more money that the development will bring in.

Also do a liitle search on acid sulphate soils.

Do you remember the swamp that is now West Lakes? Delfin turned that into a residential development by covering the swamp with landfill - ie rubbish. Worked a treat until the houses all started sinking a couple of inches each year. Think I'll take your advice and look for houses elsewhere.

^^ and the other issue of the QE2-sized turning circle :D

IMO the 380 was 10 x the Magna on almost all levels and that's not saying that late model Magna's had anything wrong with them either!

All Mitsubishi needed was to actually sell a few of the things and they wouldn'tve gone down the shitter... maybe :P

On topic, I've mentioned my views on this on NS, basically said a new development at Tailem Bend would be a step in the right direction, especially for those dedicated to go the extra distance to get there, but the people who the government want off the streets won't use it and the gov will continue to use this as a scapegoat for any real forward progress for motorsport in SA.

Sorry to go off topic..... I left there before they went down the shitter but if Holden, Toyota and Ford got the same treatment from the media Mitsi's got how long do you think they'd last...? Hell they almost can't survive already and they haven't copped the treatment Mitsi's got :D

i have to tow my silvia to lala from mclaren vale and i can tell you the main factor in me deciding if i going to go is the distance i have have to drive.

some times i just dont have the energy to get the trailer, load the car, strap it down, fill both cars with petrol and drive there and back to unload the car, drop off the trailer etc.

so i can tell you now, there is very little chance in me making the distance to the TB location if i am forced to tow a car there.

ill do what i can to get there but my job being so physical it really takes it out of me for anything  but i guess it is a step forward, kind of?

everyones making the move to mawson lakes  the new swamp

come join us, shrek lives here

f**k that. I work on houses in Mawson Lakes regularly. Pieces of shit, poorly constructed and will probably be lucky to last 10 years. No way would I ever buy/build there.

Onto the topic at hand.... It sure is a great distance, I can't see it being used enough to warrant them building it for that exact reason, it's just too far

D Stirls, as a civil engineer as you have stated, have you assessed the proposed land site for this Port Adelaide complex? Is it suitable?

Although this is a step on the road to a motorsport complex, isn't this one of the issues we are fighting at the same time..the distance from the CBD?

Sure, Tailem Bend sounds awesome and hey, if it got developed, heck i'd be out there, but still..its the distance from Adelaide. Yeah, its on a freeway and you are doing 110 (100 on your p-plates) but the fact remains, its a solid hour from Adelaide.

Maybe a silly idea, but in Poland, on Friday nights, they block off a section of public roads (used by people 24/7) have Police securing the site, 500 metres in length, with safety precautions, and hold drag races. The police happily have reported that there are less deaths on the road, speeding from the 17-25 year old category has decreased.

We need something closer. 30 minutes or less.

Also do a liitle search on acid sulphate soils.

*thinks back to hs chem*

ehm, naturally occuring soils that form in water heavy conditions, usually contain iron sulphide, benign when undisturbed but as soon as you expose it and it starts oxidising it forms sulphuric acid which in turn can cause the soil to start releasing heavy metals which combines with the sulphuric acid and starts degrading cement and metals... (on top of other environmental effects)?

been a few years, im probably a little off the mark.

(i only did chem to get a better idea on how to blow stuff up, end up learning a couple things though, lol)

ive got a better chance of having a 'one night in paris' sorta deal with megan fox than that does of happening in sa. we already have 1 legal street race in adelaide, cant have more.

also not going to happen, namely due to noise constraints, cant build too close or you end up with complaints and then curfews.

Has the Rann gov ever considered how much coin something like WSID/Willowbank or even EC bring in to a community?

Ever tried to get accomodation near Phillip Island near a major event?

The SA & VIC gov have helped to F_CK drag racing in each state with greed and the help of BOB!

The SA gov will never support any motorsport facilty by itself, you need to back door them.

Call it "a driver training facility". If they think one of those will buy votes, then watch how quickly one gets approved.

I could go on...............

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
